actually, he's been #1 for like 22 weeks so far this year, I do think a backlash is coming because I don't think Usher has the goods to back up the massive popularity IMO. It'll be like how everyone turned against Hootie And The Blowfish after "owning" a year

Backlash, yea right. This isn't his first number 1 album, it just never stayed up that long.

The popularity of music is different these days.

okay, Usher can be compared to Boyz II Men then. 10 years ago, they were what he was now, even tho they'd been popular for a few years, but after a year or so as the biggest act in the world, people got so sick and tired of them that they haven't been able to achieve 1/10th of their 94-95 popularity since, mostly because people remember how burnt out they got on B2M during the II album.

Plus Usher is a real *****, I dislike his attitude and the way he bashes other artists. He bashes pop music (I was making r&b music while he was singing pop crap... he said about Justin), I'll take most pop music over his stuff. He shoulda stuck with the Neptunes, that was where his best music was being made.

Comparing Usher today to Michael Jackson 20 years ago is a joke (since Usher said Confessions will top Thriller), every single song on Thriller appealed to everybody, Usher's songs are very middle-of-the-road r&b, only Yeah stood out at all

I agree with you on the crappy attitude, I wasn't defending him on that in any way. His excuse is almost like any other, alot of people said he couldn't do it without them, and he did.

The Justin Timberlake thing came along, because now people wanna compare Usher to Justin Timberlake(who shortly took over a portion of R&B) because of their performance styles. It would aggravate anybody, to be compared to somebody who is new to it, when you've been doing it longer IE: Raven and Hilary Duff.

the thing about Justin is that what he is doing... Usher doesn't "own", both Justin and Usher have this lifelong dream to be Michael Jackson. It'd be like Britney attacking another artist for copying her style and image... even tho Britney is still just trying to be a cross between Madonna and Janet Jackson anyways. If Usher came out with this completely original style that nobody had ever seen before, and then Justin came out and did the exact same thing, I could see it, but both of them are just trying to be MJ.

I tend to listen to CDs more then listen to the radio. And when I do listen to the radio it is the local classic rock station. I also haven't watched either MTV or VH1 in about eight or nine years. So if you take that into consideration, there is no reason I should know who he is. I've heard his name once or twice, but beyond that I have no clue to what he or his music is like.

exactly, I was as little MTV as humanly possible these days. I had never heard Yeah until it'd been #1 for like 9 weeks already.

Usually you hear about current events in the newspapers or magazines even if you don't listen to the radio. Its kind of hard to ignore anyone in the big city. I don't listen to country music but I do know that fella Tim McGraw is making his mark. I don't watch MTV or VH1 or BET (only comicview). You can't help but notice Usher.

yea, but even if you know who Tim McGraw is, can you name any of his tunes?

I stopped watching MTV (tho I might watch it very little, but probably no more than 30 mins a week) probably two years ago. I can only tell you that I've heard 5 of the top 10 songs (both Usher's, Alicia Keys, Nina Sky and Hoobastank), and of those 5, only Alicia Keys and Hoobastank made enough of an impression that I can sing any part of the song back.

The music industry just isn't what it used to be, it's all about catering to youth now, what happened to the days when there were artists people under 21 and over 21 could both like?

No, not from a small town. Schaumburg is one of the biggest towns in Illinois. I hear about a lot of artists from many different sources. But just because I've heard about Usher or Outcast, does not mean I really know anything about them or their music. I first heard the name Outcast at the Jewel. Two teenage boys were behind me in line talking about Outcast. Okay, so now I've heard the name Outcast, but besides a name, I don't know anything about Outcast. I thought Outcast was a punk band of sorts until I saw a picture in a magazine.
