I read that Ned Beatty's birthday is in 1937 which would mean that when he premiered as Dan's dad in 1989 he would be 52. He looked alot older than that. This would also mean that he's only 15 years older than John Goodman (1952). I wonder how old Ed was in the show.

That's very surprising to me. I always figured Ned Beatty was in his early to mid 60's when he was on the show. It's hard to believe he was only 15 years older than John Goodman. John is about the same age now, as Ned was when he was on the show, and he looks way younger than Ned did, that's for sure. It's strange how some people seem to age so much quicker than others. As far as his age on the show goes, I don't think it was ever mentioned.

Maybe the role he played in "Deliverance" and the subsequent teasing he took about it over the years caused him to age prematurely
