Default Changing Opinions

Have you ever stopped liking a character you used to love on the show or started to like one you used to hate?

When I was a kid, I loved Rebecca and disliked Diane. I've since seen the light, and now it's vice-versa.

The gates of heaven (if there is one) shall open for you.

I'm interested in knowing what other people have been through...because I myself never really changed my opinions concerning the characters. The most I've done is start to dislike Rebecca a little less.

Diane used to be at the bottom of my list with Sam and Rebecca (who are still down there).... but now she's one of my faves.

I used to like Rebecca, then HATED her, now I can tolerate her.
I still despise the fact that she was never on Frasier.... but I can move on, can't I??

You will move on, my son, you will. [pats head] And you get into heaven too - assuming that all my theories are correct and that I really am God.

I figured something else that changed: I used to think that Sam and Diane should have gotten married, even though I've always liked them better apart. But now I realize what that would have done to the show in season 5 and am glad that they ended as friends in the show's final episode.

I've always been for them to stay apart, because a reunion is inevitable (thankfully).... and once Sam and Diane get married, the series is over -- there's nothing to move forward with.

If Shelley Long had stayed beyond the 5 year contract, I dont think they would've gotten engaged so early.
I'm not sure what they'd do.... but as I said before, a wedding is an end. (at least to Cheers)

I read once in an article that Shelley decided to leave after the writers decided Sam and Diane would get engaged. She said she could only take Diane as far as the altar. So I'm assuming they were going to get married at the end of season 5 anyway...and that may very well have been the end of Cheers. I'll try to look that up.

I think the producers wouldn't've (is that right?) wanted to end so early.
I've read that they had ideas early on that would have the show last at least a decade.

Marriage might have been the figurative "end" because the show would have gotten worse - like what happened with Wings after those two got married.

I use to hate Frasier in the beginning(I guess because I saw him as a threat to Sam & Diane) Now, he's my favorite character.

thats the problem with something like that though, if the show completely revolves around two people and their tension it is very difficult to make that continue for years on a show.

That is why the show Good Morning Miami didnt have a chance. It was funny but I knew it couldnt last because it didnt have any longetivity.

Yes, I have changed opinions. Diane used to be my favorite character but now she really irks me.

That makes sense from her point of view. But I wonder, if she had stayed on would they actually HAD them go through with the wedding? It doesn't seem like it would've been that easy for them. I always thought that if she had stayed on that the writers would have done something to tear them apart again (and again and again, which may have gotten tiresome... like, on Friends, for example, I think they went one time too far with Ross and Rachel).

Sometimes I seem to be in the minority, but I always liked Diane. She never really bothered me like she does some people.

Carla used to annoy the hell out of me, but now I have seen the light and I realize Rhea's comedic genius.
