I've been reading about this mystery and I could have sworn I first saw this on a UM episode. But I could be wrong.
The Boy in the Box was found about fifty years ago in a cardboard box. He had been brutally beaten and was left by the side of a rural road. His hair had been freshly cut perhaps to conceal his identity. Police hoped to solve the case right away but no one ever came forward to claim him and his identity to this day remains a mystery. |

I don't believe this story has ever been profiled on Unsolved Mysteries either. But it does sound similar to a case I remember seeing. There was the Special Alert type mystery about a four-year-old girl named Barbara (I forget her last name). She lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was found dead in a cardboard box a few blocks away from her house. I remember that their was a police officer in this case who was just explaining everything, and there were no reanactments in this case. There was a composite sketch of a suspect who looked very scary!
I believe that there was an update and the case was solved though. Maybe this is the case that you got mixed up with the boy in the box? The boy in the box was never on Unsolved Mysteries, well at least I've never seen it.

As for the murdered Pennsylvania girl you mentioned, her full name was Barbara Jean Horn. Although it was a short segment with no reenactments, I have never forgotten about that case. Knowing that she was only four years old when she was murdered in 1988, she would be 20 now if she had lived. In 1996, Walter Ogrod was convicted of Horn's murder, and has been on death row ever since. |
