Default Real Life Versions of the Characters

My parents have this friend who is the spitting image of Niles - only he has dark hair. But he not only looks like Niles, he also acts and dresses like Niles! And that's not even the best part. He's actually married to his own Maris!! Much like Maris, I've never seen her - I have only heard stories about how thin and difficult she is.

I also know somebody who is the spitting image of Mr. Burns from The Simpsons...but that's another story.

Anybody else know people who remind you of a character?

I've got a few myself!

I sat next to a Niles type a few weeks ago! He had his briefcase, a nice suit, notes - his hair was neatly combed. It was weird. (he also had dark hair - where are all the blondes? LOL!)

Also, back in the day, when I was 3 or 4 years old, there was this Sears repair guy (whose daughter was a soap actress on As The World Turns at the time, and his son-in-law played on Guiding Light (currently on the soap) - but anyways, he was fixing our refrigerator and my mom said that he looked like Cliff Clavin! Haha!!

Seems like everyone knows a Niles..but I swear, my orchestra teacher..is him. He also has dark hair, but other then that. The first thing my mom said when she saw him was "God he looks like Niles."

Oh boy do I ever...
My father and his younger brother are Frasier and Niles all over. Its amazing. They both, in fact, have a residence at or near Seattle (where I am now)!
They are both a bit pompous (but lovably so), obsessed with good wine, classical music, history, and good literature.
They both (and I have been trying to work on my father with this) have the unfortunate tendency to look down upon those with less formal education than themselves. Getting a graduate's degree is a must in our family.

When my sister and I went to the Cheers set in LA, they had a part of Frasier's wardrobe there. My sister looked at all those jackets with the leather patches on the elbows and said "I think they stole dad's old sportsjackets!"

As an example, just today I came into the kitchen looking for something to eat.
"Dad," I said, "Do we have any cheese?" (I really like cheese)
"Wait a minute," he says, "Shhh. What are we listening to?"
"Aida, daddy. Verdi. Do we have any cheese?"
And this is how I was raised. Whenever dad put on a CD, he would hide the cover, and I would have to identify it. Its actually a pretty nifty skill to have!

Anyway, it's a bit of a running joke in my family, one Thanksgiving we spent trying to decide who everyone else was. With absolutely no correlation to the family relations on Frasier. I was instantly proclaimed 'Lilith' by my entire family (now there's Freudian for you) My brother-in-law was Martin, one sister was Daphne, the other was Roz, my mother was Bebe...
anyway, goodtimes.

Opera...at breakfast? Tsk tsk, bad for the digestion you know.

Joke. Yeah, he does sound like the Frasier type. And yes, calling you Lilith is frightfully Freudian.

My mom calls me Lilith a lot - cause of my hair and skin! So I have an idea - I'm going to put on one of my Lilith suits, put my hair back in a bun and take a picture - then post it here!

How's that sound?

It wasn't breakfast! Who has cheese for breakfast?!
Probably a whole lot of people...actually, but not me.
Anyway, it was, break-'Oh good, my wife is out of the house, I can play my music!'-fast. My mother hates opera.

Anyway, I freakin hate Freud, so that doesn't matter much. Load of archaic, chauvanistic crap, give me Skinner any day! I heart BF Skinner!

Well, shoot, that's me every day! Well...I only wear suits on occasion, but I do dress rather primly for a college student!

We're listening to Bach's Goldberg Variations on Harpsichord right now... but now I'm just showing off!

Bach Goldberg Variations...the sad thing is I actually know what you're talking about haha.

I dress a little too primly sometimes too. And yes, I have cheese for breakfast everyday .

Diane was also a Skinnerian behaviorist. What was Lilith? I know she was anything but Freud - but what exactly was she? I think Freud is like literature - not science, just interesting to analyze. That's the only reason I find him amusing.

You know, I was about to say "I don't know" to your school of psychology question, but then I was rewatching "The Show Where Lilith Comes Back" and she says
Quote:
Overeating is very simply a behavioral problem caused by negative reinforcement. It can be cured quite readily by behavior modification.
and then I remember that a year ago I had checked out the Cheers episode guide from my University library (for educational purposes, of course), and was reading Lilith's profile, and it had said something about her being a "strict Skinnerian" or something along those lines, and I remember wondering "Hm. That's interesting. I wonder how they decided that."
Didn't really put two and two together until you asked.

I've often joked that when I have a kid...I'll build a baby sized Skinner box for it!
No one else thinks that that's really funny...
Not sure why.

Guess we probably should have guessed what with her love of rats and all.
Oh! I'm getting rats when I move out (ie, November)! I love rats. My sister has 2 boy rats at her apartment (like, pets, not vermin) and I love them so much! They're called Calvin and Jake, and she's getting two spayed girls on Wednesday, Sadie and Ave, and this doesn't really pertain the thread or um anything or even make sense, so...um, yeah.

A Skinnerian and a Freudian. No wonder their marriage fell apart.
