Although I am not a newbie (check my registration date), I havent been in here forever so I haven't been up-to-date with recent topics and events
I was wondering, how many unaired segments exist; and if there are ever any plans to air them or put them on the new wave of DVD's we'll be getting? thanks |

It has been questioned several times on this board whether Lifetime even have the rights to air the Malden/Burr segments although I would assumed Cosgrove and Co. own these episodes as well. The first dvd set on "UFO's" seems to be very Stack orientated with a tribute to him as a special feature and because I don't think Burr or Malden ever hosted any UFO segments I doubt these early episodes will be included on the first dvd.
There is one or two UFO segments that Lifetime only aired during the half-hour segments early in the morning that I hope are on the UFO DVD which I may or may not pick up as those cases never really interested me. However, most of us are waiting on the "Bizzare Murders" set which should be issued next year. What amazes me is they have enough "ESP" cases to make a big DVD set, I know there were quite a few but I don't think anymore than twenty. I think a "Missing Persons" set should also be done. Later. |

The three Burr and Malden "specials" that aired before Robert Stack became the regular host. Not seen since their original broadcasts. A 1989 story about the murder of a Florida gunsmith. A 1989 story about the discovery of a Polaroid photo of two abducted kids (Tara Calico and Michael Henley). It has reportedly been seen during the late night 30 minute installments. An early story about a writer who vanished while writing a novel about a real disappearance that occurred in the same town a year or two before. This has been shown at least once in a 30 minute installment. A 1993 story about the abduction and murder of a 10 year old girl from Chicago. A 1994 story about the murder of a mother and her 5 year old son during the 1981 Christmas season. A 1994 or 1995 story about psychic detective Noreen Radner (sp?) A 1995 story about the bizarre 1991 death of a Louisiana couple. A 1995 special called "greatest prsion breaks" or something similar. A 1996 or 1997 piece about internet harassment and cyberstalkers. A 1996 or 1997 piece about Jon Benet Ramsey. Another thing: there have been many times when I've been watching an episode, and they'll throw in an update to a case that I do not recall ever seeing before. The only example I can think of off the top of my head is the story about the exoneration of accused murderer Jon Purvis in Florida. I have the update on video, and Stack says something like "the last time Unsolved Mysteries aired this story..." yet the original story hasn't been on Lifetime to my knowledge. Justin |

doesnt UM have far more than 360 minutes of Bizzarre murder segments? It seems like 40% of the show is based around that (which is my favorite, next to UFO)
the only DVDs I dont plan to get are the Psychic and Miracles |

I noticed that Justins5256 made a list of segments that were shown on primetime, but apparently never rerun on Lifetime. One that stands out in my mind was a 1994 segment about the slayings of a mother and her five-year-old son. As I recall from the segment, they were murdered in Texas on Christmas Day of 1981--the young boy's fifth birthday! I've been looking for info on that case, but unfortunately, I can't remember the names of the victims.

Yea, I know about this story. The man's name was Keith Reinhard. He lived in Colorado and a friend of his, Tom Young, went missing along with his dog in the mountains under mysterious circumstances. Keith ended up renting the same store as Tom had when he went missing and became obsessed with his life and disappearance. (Tom Young's body was found 10 months after his disappearance and is thought to have committed suicide). Keith started to write novel about Tom's life and disappearance and according to the story he had a hard time distinguishing himself from his missing friend. One day Keith told his family and friends he was going for a hike up the mountains. His friends thought this was strange to go for a hike right before dark and he seemed to have no supplies with him. It also seems like he was afraid of heights. He hasn't been seen since. They wonder if he met with foul play or he decided to share the same fate as his friend.
Feel free to correct me if I got any of the details wrong, I'm writing this from memory. |

The story took place in a small town in the Midwest (I think) near a mountain in the mid eighties. One day, a local bookshop owner hiked up the mountain with his dog and disappeared. About a year later, another man moved into the town and purchased the bookshop. He was intrigued when he heard about the disappearance of the shop's former owner, and began to write a novel which was going to be a fictionalized account of the story. Eventually, someone did find the original bookshop owner's body on the mountain. He had been shot to death along with his dog, and the death was ruled a suicide. The following day, the writer told his friends that he was going to hike up the mountain. He was never seen again. There were two theories as to what may have happened. One was that both men were murdered because they may have discovered something bad while working at the shop (UM didn't really go in depth about what that might have been). The second theory was that the writer got so involved in the story, and had a mental break after it was revealed the first guy (who he idolized a great deal) committed suicide that he himself committed suicide. I'm more inclined to believe the second theory. Regardless, it was/is a pretty cool story, and I can't understand why Lifetime felt it was necessary to confine it to a 30 minute installment only. the first one sounds like it could be Rolando Cruz/Jeanine Nicario, but I don't know if that's right. |
