Default Heart Love...Heart :lookaroun

Heh...I'm bored so decided to ask a question I've been wondering about...why...does....a heart symbolize love? Honestly, love comes from the brain and maybe a bit from the lower abdominal area...but NOT the heart. Blood and oxygen is all that's in there. So yeah, if anyone...knows. Kinda bothers me.

I guess it's because in the old days people actually believed love came from the heart. A lot of things like that today come from way back.

"I don't love this anymore,"
Turn my back on all my fans...
Who's to think about?
The brighter I shine, the darker my shadows.
And they pull me behind, as I let off the pedal.
Why should I divide what feels so right?
Is this where I want to lay?

I think it might have something to do with the atriums and ventricles, but I might be wrong.

Of course in this day and age we all now know that love, and indeed any kind of emotion, is generated by hormones and chemical reactions within certain parts of the brain. But I suppose, back in the old days when medical science wasn't quite so far advanced, people just assumed that love came from the heart for the simple reason that whenever you see that 'special someone' your heart seems to skip a beat or begin to beat faster. Also, the idea that love comes from the heart is a lot more romantic and idealistic than the notion that it's just caused by a few weird connections inside your cranium.
Admitting that the way I feel about someone is all due to a bunch of arbitrary chemical reactions is a bit of a downer, but it can help. I try so hard to convince myself that none of my emotions really mean anything because I have no control over them and therefor they say nothing about me as a person and therefor nothing about what I really, truly want..........but it doesn't really work. I wish I could convince myself of that fact - that it doesn't mean anything. It would make my life a lot easier and less painful.
