Thumbs up The Butterfly Effect

I just watched this movie for the first time yesterday (and more today, LOL) and I LOVED it! I thought it was going to be some typical teen angst, Ashton Kutcher flick, but it was really good. I love those kind of movies that play with your mind and stuff.

It is a bit disturbing in some parts and can get pretty violent or bloody but overall it was really good. I'm going to buy this movie! Who knew that Ashton Kutcher could do drama?!? LOL

That movie scared the hell out of me when I saw it in theaters. It probably wouldnt be half as scary in my living room. It was a good movie though. I was really confused about something in the end but I forget what it was. The movie kind of leaves the viewer to think for themselves. The burning of the journals is what threw me off. I'd have to see it again to remember why tho.

Yes, this is definitely the kind of movie you have to see more than once to really understand. It is pretty confusing. the only bad thing about the DVD is it doesn't have Close captioning to see what they're saying. That really helps a lot to know what's going on. So far I haven't watched it with the CC and I'm sure if I put it on CC somehow (like maybe get the VHS version) I'd catch some more things!

My mom and I are going to watch together because we both can't watch creepy movies like that alone.

P.S Why is it called "The Butterfly Effect"???

I just watched it the other night, and I really liked it. It was scary as hell, and I too was surprised at how well Ashton Kutcher handled a dramatic role.

I think The Butterfly Effect is where if you change one thing, you change everything. In this movie he's going back in time and changing one thing in the past but everything in the future is changed along with it.

This movie was great. I liked Thumper, he kicked ass.
Has anyone seen the extras on the DVD. I heard that there is an alternate ending.

Yeah, the director's cut has an alternate ending. It's much different than the theatrical version. I like both, but theatrical is much better and happier.

I was expecting it to be the typical teen type of film, too. I thought since Ashton Kutcher was on That 70's Show which is like a typical teen tv show. I was very surprised when I first saw the film in the theater.

OK, there's something I gotta ask about this movie. What happens in the scene with the uh, animal abuse. I hear that a dog is tied in a bag, and is then set on fire?!?! How true is this, and also, how greusome is this scene? What exactly do we see/hear when it comes to the dog being abused? Does anything else bad happen to the dog before he gets set on fire? (try not to give storyline spoilers)

I ask this because I'm very interested in seeing this movie, but I can't stand seeing animals being abused in movies, real or not. I recently saw a movie called "Big Girls Don't Cry...They Get Even", in which a dog gets violently shoved around and smacked with a newspaper by some redneck...while the dog struggles and whimpers. Also, the dog is shoved once again by the main character, when she is trying to get him to run away from his abusive owner. (this was all visible on camera) Poor freakin' dog. Hell, I was mortified the first time I saw National Lampoon's Vacation, when that dog was dragged to his death on the Griswald's car, even though we don't see any part of it. I didn't find that to be funny in the least...this nonsense took me right out of these two movies, and I'm wondering if it'll happen with Butterfly Effect.

SPOILER (sort of)
I'm the exact same way. I can't watch news stories about animal abuse or even read about it in the newspaper.

That scene about the dog in the bag is quite disturbing, but then again, I left the room. Without spoiling the plot for you, and this is on the DVD jacket, so I'm not really. Ashton Kutcher's character has the ability to alter the past, so as horrifying as that dog scene is, he 'alters' it later so it didn't happen. We see it again with a happier outcome. The scene is redeemed so to speak.

When you see the scene coming up, and there's ample time, don't watch it -- nothing else bad happens to the dog beforehand. It will have a better outcome towards the end.

The movie is very good, and knowing how you feel, I wouldn't steer you wrong.

My friends and I just saw this movie and we thought it was awesome! We have never been big Ashton fans, but this movie surprised all of us. I didn't get up once, and it's a good thing I didn't because I would have been lost. Very trippy and very good movie.
