I thought Ted Cassidy always played Thing as well as Lurch. But I saw an ep on TV Land recently where Lurch is handing things to Thing (no pun intended).

I've read that Ted Cassidy normally played Thing, but when a scene called for Lurch and Thing to appear together, one of the show's producers played Thing.

Almost right!!! In the shots where Thing & Lurch were together, Jack Voglin, the assistant director, was Thing. This is probably gonna be someboby's next question, so in the episode called "Morticia meets Royalty", Carolyn Jones played lady Fingers, in case anybody's wondering.

I heard somwhere that Ted almost always used his right hand for continuity but would sneak in his left on occasion.
I wonder why they chose the biggest actor to get under the tables for this?

Ok. As to the lefty question, Ted would switch hands to see if the audience was paying attention. pretty smart, don't you think? |
