I have been watching Lassie on the Christian station in my area and am getting hooked. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of Leave it to Beaver. Here are some simularities I have found...
The actors who played the dads on both shows are named Hugh (Hugh Beaumont and Hugh Reilly). Both are gentle natured and wise. Beaver's mother is June Cleaver, while the mom on Lassie is played by June Lockhart. Nowadays, both actresses make appearances on TV as the epitome of the ideal TV mom of the 50's. Like Beaver, Timmy can be somewhat naive and trusting and allow his friends to get him into trouble. On both series, the title characters are named last in the opening credits with an 'and' credit. ("...and Jerry Mathers as the Beaver." "...and, of course, Lassie.") |

I've been watching both Timmie and Lassie and Jeff's Collie on Discovery Kids on Saturday and Sunday. I remember watching the former show when I was growing up, however Jeff's Collie was a little before my time. Still a good show though.

I also see the similarities between the two shows. Even though he had great parents I always felt sorry for Timmy being an only child.
