Default NYC Anchorwoman was demoted after referring to sleeveless under shirts as

"Wife Beaters" on the air. She is now a reporter for WNBC instead of anchoring. Poor Karen Hepp-lol Those of you in NYC may know who i'm talking about

Yeah, but she was weekend anchor not a weekday anchor. She was from Philly if I'm not mistaken.

But it's unprofessional for a anchor to refer to them as wife beaters on the air. She was supposed to be sleeveless under shirts.

How long have those kinds of shirts been reffered to as "wife beaters?" I've only heard that term the last few years.
There is another term used for describing them, but it is a bit slanderous to anyone of Italian descent.

I think AL BUNDY made up that term. One episode of MARRIED WITH CHILDREN the police where bringing someone out of the house and AL said look, he is wearing a wife beater...he is guilty.

Your correct, it is very sladerous to anyone of Italian descent. This anchorwoman/reporter was very unprofessional. This is one of the reasons why the media gets no respect.
