Default Charlie's Angels: The Angels Return

“CHARLIE’S ANGELS: THE ANGELS RETURN”
By Drew Roberts c. 2004

PREFACE:

All Readers and True “Charlie’s Angels” Fans: Even though the plot and/or idea for this story is absolutely and totally mine, the characters and past cases used and discussed in this story are obviously not. The characters and cases were originally created by Aaron Spelling, Leonard Goldberg, and the writers for the 1976-1981 television detective series “Charlie’s Angels.” The rights to the show are now owned by Colombia Tri-Star Television-a division of Sony Entertainment.

The actual location of the office building used for "Charlie's Angels" is at the intersection of Robertson Blvd. and Clifton Way. However the actual address is 189 Robertson Blvd. But, if you watch the show, in almost every episode when the camera does a close-up on the building, there's a big 193 above the door. So, I used that address--193 Robertson Blvd. in my story. The last I heard, the building now houses a vaccum cleaner store--ouch!!

The time period set for this story is July 2003. This story was begun on July 13, 2003 with the intention of only taking a couple months to complete. However, with more than one move, relatives with health problems, work, etc…I had to put this story on hold more than once. I apologize if this story, being a year off, annoys anyone.

Next, this story is a respectful and loving tribute to: Cheryl Ladd, Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Shelley Hack, and Tanya Roberts! For all of them are true Angels—not just in the original show but are ‘Angels’ of the entertainment industry as well! All of them have become superb, talented, respected, and of course beautiful actresses and performers in television, theater movies, stage, the music industry, etc…! I have enjoyed everything and I thank them all for their awesome works! I truly hope to see more of all of them in the future!

I also want to thank one of my best friends—Billie Wager! She gave me the idea and courage to write this story. She has written reunion fan-fiction stories of her own favorite shows and is probably a better writer than me. However, I like to hope that I can maybe equal her!-LOL. I also want to thank my parents, grandmother, and my brother and his fiancé. They too helped me and gave me encouragement. I love all of you and you are the most important people in my life!

In conclusion, I have saved the most important point for last. This story and its contents, characters, idea, and purpose are all dedicated in loving memory to the life of David Doyle (aka ‘John Bosley’) 1929-1997! I respect his role and purpose for the show and was greatly saddened in ’97 to hear of his death! He was a caring, humorous, talented, and awesome actor and person! I strongly suspect he is greatly missed by family, friends, fellow actors and/or actresses, and true “Charlie’s Angels” fans. ‘Bosley’ may be gone but never forgotten!

I hope you all love, enjoy, and can visualize this story as much as I did writing it! I have every episode of “C.A.” on tape and have done all the research I can to get facts, names, dates, cases, etc…right! If there are any questions or suspected possible errors on original show facts, please let me know! Thank you all, everyone, and…Angels!---Drew Roberts.-“Angels Forever!”

INTRODUCTION—BY CHARLIE:

“Once upon a time, there were six very beautiful, but very talented, little girls. They all came to work for me and together we solved some of the most lucrative and interesting cases known to detectives and law enforcement! After five years, I decided to retire when the lives of my Angels were—more than once—almost lost! They all went on to different careers, lives, and started their families. Now, years later, someone is stalking and terrifying them! To try and figure out who is doing this, I took them away from their new careers and, once again, they now work for me!---By the way, for those of you who may have forgotten or for those who are just now discovering an ‘Angel’ of a television show….my name is Charlie!

PART 1: "ANGEL ATTACKS!"

CHAPTER 1: KELLY GARRETT-“A VERY PRETTY ANGEL!”

Fear and adrenaline surged through her body like an out-of-control oil gusher as Kelly raced into the pitch black alley. She ducked into a back doorway of an old abandoned building. As she pressed herself against the door, Kelly prayed that the darkness would hide her and the figure following her would pass by thinking that she had continued down the alley. She tried to quiet her gasps for air from running so long when she heard something not far from the doorway. Her heart pounding, Kelly slowly peaked around the corner towards the way she had come—nothing but darkness and the far off sounds of traffic horns and honks.

From nowhere, the hand grabbed her from behind and yanked her around like a rag doll. A dark figure with the face of Harry Wardlow glared at her with a horrible grin! Even though it had been twenty-seven years since Kelly had seen Wardlow, he somehow was back and hadn’t aged at all! “How ya doin’, Miss Garrett? I’m going to have to shoot you ya know! I’m gonna have to shoot ya!” He let out a nasty line of laughing after shouting the threats at her at the top of his lungs.

Kelly shrieked and somehow broke away from his grasp. She belted down the alley as fast as she could. She looked back a couple times and saw Wardlow hobbling as fast as he could after her. One of his feet was shorter than the other so he had to limp along as best he could. Then Kelly saw a door that was part way open. She slammed into the building and shut the door. There was an old push button lock on the rusted door knob and she pushed it in, hoping that it still worked and Wardlow hadn’t seen her enter.

The loud old-fashioned jangling of the phone behind her caused Kelly to let out a frightened yelp. As she whirled around she noticed that the only things in the room were an old wooden chair; an old cigarette scarred, beaten up wooden table; and on the table, an old rotary dial black telephone. This style of phone had probably not been produced since the late ‘70’s. All of these items were in the middle of the room with only one old light fixture above them providing the dim light. The phone rang again.

Afraid that the noise of the phone would let Wardlow know where she was, Kelly raced over to it. She noticed that beside the telephone was an old yellowed piece of paper that had her name on it. She turned it over and the message said: “Sit down, Kelly, and answer the phone!” She sat down in the chair wondering who knew where she was and how did they know? Kelly picked up the receiver and whispered a strained “Hello?”

“Hello, Kelly! You’re a very pretty girl. Oh yes, a very pretty girl! Too bad I’m going to have to kill you tonight!” leered the sick, perverted, but all too familiar voice. Kelly immediately knew that the voice belonged to Paul Factor or ‘Margo’ as he sometimes liked to dress up as. Somehow he had found her again. But that was impossible! Factor had been in a mental institution for the criminally insane for the past twenty-two years. But somehow here he was taunting her over the phone as he once had! A loud click and then continual buzz sounded in the phone as Factor hung up.

Suddenly, there were scraping noises from the dark corners of the room! From both sides immerged a limping Harry Wardlow and a bizarre looking Paul Factor. Factor had haphazardly put on his ‘Margo’ outfit—blonde wig half on his head, lipstick smeared over his lips-dark blue eye shadow colored high above his eyebrows, and a torn old dress that hung off his body like rags! “Oh, a very pretty girl! So pretty that I’m going to have to kill you!” hissed the ‘Margo-thing’ aka Factor. “I’m going to shoot you, Miss Garrett, absolutely blow you away!” screamed the limping Wardlow.

Kelly screamed in terror as the two killers threw her to the ground and, one on each side, started shaking her violently as they both recited their sick threats in her face. Kelly screamed again with all her might as she suddenly sat upright in bed hitting her husband Alan in the head with her own. He had been shaking her to try and wake her up when she had bolted up from her nightmare and caused them to ‘bam’ heads.

“Oww, Babe, that hurt!” Alan yelped as he then took his shaking, still whimpering wife in his arms. “The nightmares are starting again. That usually means something stressful is happening at work. You wanna talk about it, sweetheart?” he asked as he held Kelly while she tried to calm her breathing and slamming heart.

“Oh, Alan, it was all so real! Their faces were so real! I’m sorry I woke you up. Did I hurt your head too badly?” asked Kelly as she reached up and lovingly touched the side of her husband’s head.

“Naaa, I’d head-butt with you anytime! Especially if you promised to massage if afterwards,” Alan teased. Kelly smiled and jokingly pushed his head away.

“You goof! However, with all the yelling and moaning I was doing, you probably thought I was dreaming I was in an Herbal Essences commercial or something.” This produced strong laughter from both of them as they hugged again.

“Kel, this nightmare business has got to stop! You’re not getting much sleep and neither am I. Surgeons have to have their beauty sleep you know!” Kelly smiled at his joke about beauty sleep but her eyes were no longer joking. She knew that the dreams were becoming more prevalent.

“I know, honey, but I’ve just been under a lot of strain lately. I’m sure the dreams will stop pretty soon. They usually do.”

“The dreams are about things that happened when you worked for Charlie aren’t they?” stated Alan rather than asking a question.

“Yes. I was dreaming that Harry Wardlow and Paul Factor were chasing and trying to kill me. I know that that’s impossible but in my nightmare it all seems so detailed and real. I think I’m okay now.”

“Kel, Wardlow was murdered by that Ronald Meeker guy who had hired him in the first place, to make you think you were a target when Charlie was the real intended target to begin with! Meeker, himself died in ’91, in prison, a very old man. Paul Factor is still in an institution somewhere. There’s nothing to worry about. Besides, the Wardlow case is not a situation I like to think about anyway. It’s what caused us to break-up and I didn’t see you for another six years!”

“I know, Alan. It’s not a case I like to think about either. It’s just that work is very emotional right now and it’s causing my subconscious to go a little ‘haywire’. I promise I’ll take it easy and try not to dream. Now, let’s go back to sleep while we still have a couple hours.” He agreed and they kissed and snuggled together. Alan was soon lightly snoring but Kelly was wide awake for the rest of the night.

The next morning while drinking her second cup of coffee, Kelly sat in her breakfast nook and pondered not only the previous night but her life as well. Kelly Garrett-Samuelson and her husband Alan had been happily married since 1982, the year after Charlie had decided that things were getting too dangerous for her, Kris, and Julie. He decided to retire and end the Townsend Detective Agency. After their marriage, Kelly and Alan had stayed in the Los Angeles area and settled in a nice big house in Santa Monica. Her children, born in 1983, were twins; Greg and Hollie. Kelly had actually named Greg after a little boy she had helped on one of her cases while working for Charlie. She, along with Bosley, Kris, and Tiffany had helped the boy and his father deal with child abuse and anger. It was this case that had first interested Kelly in maybe becoming a counselor sometime.

People were always asking her how she stayed so beautiful and outgoing. She exercised regularly, ate healthy, and of course there was always make-up to the rescue! But, Kelly liked to tell people that it was her loving husband and children who keep her young and active. Both Greg and Hollie were now attending UCLA. Kelly smiled to herself while taking another sip of coffee and remembering. Working for Charlie had been very exciting, dangerous, interesting, and fast paced! But they had all been like a true family, something Kelly had needed since she had been raised in a Catholic orphanage and then foster homes when she got older. She felt that while working for the Townsend Agency, she had learned far more abut people and choices in life than she possibly could have otherwise.

After she had married Alan, Kelly went back to school and became a grief counselor at the hospital that Alan (who by now had his own special heart surgery wing) was a doctor at. Sometimes all the problems of the loved ones, family members, friends, and patients that Kelly helped counsel would start to prey on her mind. It was usually then that she would start to have nightmares. Sometimes she would dream about cases that she had solved while working for Charlie, and the previous evening’s nightmares were probably the two cases that haunted Kelly’s mind the most.

She and Dr. Alan Samuelson had actually first met and dated for three months during her first year working for the Townsend Agency—during which time included the Harry Wardlow case. Wardlow had been a short footed assassin, hired by a man that Charlie had sent to prison years earlier, to make each Angel think they were a target. However Charlie had been the real intended target all along. They all ended up figuring it out and arresting Meeker. However, before they had found out who was after them, Kelly-very sadly-had broken-up with Alan. She was afraid he might get caught in the crossfire so-to-speak. They didn’t meet up again until six years later, at a conference Alan had been a part of.

Probably the scariest case for Kelly, with Paul Factor (alias Margo and alias Edward Ford) had been during the last year working for Charlie. Factor ended up being a psychotic killer, stalking women by telephone at a singles club called The Hotline. He would call certain women he fixated on and tell them how pretty they were and that he was going to have to kill them. Later, he would follow them and when they were alone, murder them. He dressed up as a lady hypnotist—Margo—at The Hotline, to divert suspicion from himself, create alibis, and pick out new victims. He ended up choosing Kelly as his new victim and if Bosley hadn’t figured it out, Factor might have been successful.

She looked at her watch. “Oh my gosh, I’m gonna be late!” she exclaimed out loud. She hurriedly got ready and rushed out to her Lincoln Navigator. If she had still been working for Charlie and hadn’t been in such a rush to get to her office, before getting in her SUV Kelly might have noticed the brake fluid that had started puddling around her front tires—even possibly the strange figure watching her from the edge of the woods that sprawled behind her house.

CHAPTER 2: KRIS MUNROE-“ANGELS STILL ON HER
MIND!”

The man watched the lady reporter question the senator’s daughter from the corner of the outside window that looked in on the hotel lobby. He had followed her here to New York and he would follow her back to San Francisco again. He knew it was her. Rage and hatred shot through his body! He always had had a problem controlling his temper, it’s what got him in trouble to begin with. But that didn’t matter, it was she who got him sent to prison! It was she who had caused him to now be an old man before he was free again! It was she whom he wanted revenge on! And by God he would have it! But only when told. For now he could only have the joy of giving her a warning. Later, he would experience the glorious pleasure of killing her!

“Sandra, you have regained all memory of childhood and who you are haven’t you?” Kris asked as she and the senator’s daughter were finishing a special interview in the hotel lobby. The area of the lobby where the interview was taking place had been blocked off with special guards, hotel security, and a couple police officers. It was airing live all over the United States.

“Oh yes, I remember everything about my life now. It’s for the most part, come back. There are just a couple details concerning my kidnapping that are still a little fuzzy. But, the doctors are helping me tremendously and I think eventually I’ll be able to give the police everything they need to convict my kidnappers.”

“But, you have remembered enough to have your captors identified and arrested. I truly wish you the best of luck, Miss Larkin. I know that the rest of our country is grateful as well, that you are still alive and have regained most of your memory. Many, many prayers were going out to you while you were still missing.”

“Thank you so much, Miss Munroe, and thank you to all who were praying and helping! I wouldn’t have survived without you!” exclaimed Sandra into the cameras. “You actually helped the police and FBI track some of my abductors down instead of just waiting around for events to happen for you, like other reporters do. I’ll always be especially grateful to you for that!”

“I try not to just report information I hear but, in cases such as yours, help if I can. I once had amnesia for a couple days also. I know that it is very frightening to not know who you are or where you came from. I was and am glad that I could be of assistance in every way possible to help find you! Thank you so much for talking with us about this horrible ordeal. We will be sure and keep following the details as the trials of your abductors begin,” finished Kris as this was the cue that the interview time was up.

“Thank you again, Miss Munroe and to everyone!” finished Sandra Larkin, looking into the front camera.

“Reporting live from New York with Senator Larkin’s daughter Sandra, I’m Kris Munroe.”---“Aaaand we’re clear,” the head camera man stated a few seconds later.

“Kris, thank you sooo much!” Sandra exclaimed as she and Kris hugged.

“It was my pleasure. I was glad to help! Your case was special to me and the police didn’t seem to be getting anywhere with the leads they had. I was only doing my job,” Kris stated with a caring smile.

“My father wishes he could have you working for him instead of a world news network. He says that you would be an awesome political investigator,” Sandra said smiling as she and Kris walked towards the grand stairway of the hotel lobby.

“Oh right, me in politics. I don’t think so, Sandra. I’d probably not only investigate a Watergate type story but accidentally end up causing it as well!” she exclaimed laughing as they walked up the stairs. Sandra began laughing too as they linked arms and continued to the top of the main landing of the second floor. From there they rode an elevator to the top floor. When the elevator opened, two bodyguards hired by Senator Larkin for his daughter, escorted Sandra to the penthouse suite. They were to make sure that no one, except Kris, was to get near Sandra while she was staying there. Kris was treated, by the Senator as well, to a suite a ways down from the penthouse. Exhausted, she opened the door to her room and then walked straight to the bed. She purposely collapsed on it while kicking off her shoes. She would take a nap before flying back to San Francisco later that afternoon. Kris called down and asked for a wake-up call at 1:00p.m., then quickly fell asleep.

At 1:25p.m. Kris had checked out of the hotel and was getting into a cab that was waiting right outside the main hotel entrance. She got into the cab and said “JFK Airport and hurry!” As the cab pulled away from the curb, Kris didn’t notice that a ten year old Ford Taurus was following the cab’s every turn. The man inside was thinking about putting his hands around Kris’ throat and slowly squeezing the life out of her. The thrill of this sick thought sent shivers of gratification up and down his spine!

Take-off time for Kris’ flight was 2:40p.m. As the cabbie zipped and swerved in between traffic, Kris hoped she could get to the airport and board the plane on time. After all, Senator Larkin was paying for everything. She smiled to herself and thought it wasn’t often that she got to fly first class. After she got to JFK, Kris was able to get through security and baggage with no problem.

After she was seated, Kris leaned back in her chair and turned her watch back to match the time in California. Once in the air she was given a glass of white wine and a pair of headphones to listen to the movie that was playing on the screen at the front. The stewardess’ voice announced that the first feature would be “Runaway Bride,” followed by an old Bogie and Bacall classic—“Dark Passage.” Both were films that Kris liked but she was tired and the wine was pretty sour, especially for first class. She decided she didn’t want it and put the glass in a side holder, then laid her head back and began to think about Sandra Larkin’s amnesia….then remembered her own.

Two rows back from Kris, the man sipped his whiskey as he watched her sit her wine down and lean back. He smiled as he took another swallow of Jack Daniels. This was the first time he’d ever flown first class and as long as he wasn’t paying for it, he was going to take full advantage of the luxuries. He watched her head resting on the head rest of the seat. How he wished he was sitting just behind her. He could’ve just quietly reached up and snapped her milky smooth neck like a baby twig. This thought excited him so much that his arms broke out in goose bumps!

Sandra Larkin was a twenty-three year old daughter of a U.S. senator. A group of violent radicals had decided to kidnap her and demand $50,000,000 in ransom. While she had been held captive, they had blind folded her and then tortured her psychologically. A couple of the women among the abductors had slapped her but that was really the extent of the physical abuse. Finally Sandra was able to loosen the ropes on her hands and try to get away. As she was climbing out the tiny window of the abandoned basement where they were holding her, a couple of the kidnappers had come in and tried to grab her feet. Sandra kicked them away and ran down the street, unfortunately in front of an oncoming car. She was hit but not seriously injured. However, after being hit by the car, she couldn’t remember anything—who she was, where she came from, or why she had been running. After a couple days, bits and pieces started coming back to her and eventually Sandra recalled almost all of her memory and life.

While she had been missing and after she had been taken to the hospital with amnesia, her ordeal had become national news! It was one of the biggest stories still being discussed. Every reporter and news network had been begging for an interview with Sandra. But she and her father agreed that the first one would be with Kris, since she had actually assisted the police and FBI in locating and arresting the last two abductors.

Kris closed her eyes as she remembered her own case of memory loss. It had been, and in some ways to her still was, very bizarre! She had never felt anything like it before or since. No matter how hard you try you simply can’t remember anything. You know you know the information but you simply can’t recall it! It had happened while she was still working for Charlie and the Townsend Agency. On a day off Sabrina, Kelly, Bosley, and herself had been having lunch at a nice restaurant. After they had finished, Kris had left early to go to a hair appointment. In the back parking lot she had come upon a man beating another man with a metal pipe or something. She had called out and tried to get her gun out of her purse, but the man with the metal pipe had been quicker! He had gotten back in his car and tried to ram her while backing up. Kris had managed to jump upon the trunk but the jolt sent her flying into a pile of junk and garbage. She hit her head on something while landing in the garbage cans, and when she got back up Kris couldn’t remember who she was or where she was going. She wandered around the city trying to piece together her life.

Of course, by the next day the other Angels and Bosley were madly trying to find her and were scouring the city themselves. Meanwhile, the man didn’t know that Kris had developed amnesia and was also trying to find her—to kill her. He still figured her as a witness to the murder he’d committed. Somehow, they had all ended up on the beach. Over a twenty-four hour period, Kris had started to remember bits and pieces and when she saw the killer looking at her from above the beach it had all clicked. During that time, Sabrina, Kelly, and Bosley had also tracked her there and showed up just in time to stop Ted Burton—the killer. It was something that Kris vowed to never experience again! She felt deeply for Sandra Larkin and what she’d gone through.

Kris smiled again as she remembered working for Charles Townsend. It had been more exciting and dangerous than her sister had first told her it would be, but it had been just as fun! Her older sister, Jill, had first worked for Charlie but left after only the first year and a half to pursue her other passion—racing cars! Kris had finished the police academy in San Francisco and had been an officer for only six months when both Jill and Charlie had called her with the idea to come work for him. At first she had been reluctant but Charlie talked her into it. Sabrina, Kelly, and Bosley had all been wonderful and very helpful. She’d never forget that first case as long as she’d live! Charlie had been kidnapped in Hawaii and all of them had had to scramble to get there and try and save him. It hadn’t exactly been the trip to ‘Paradise’ that Kris had someday hoped for, but it had been beautiful! They all finally had been able to rescue Charlie and catch a Chicago gangster hiding out in Hawaii all at the same time! The cases to follow were each different, exciting, dangerous, and yet some were sad or hurtful to remember. But it had all been worth it! They had all become family and would do anything for the other one!
Kris Munroe had gone back to San Francisco and had become a well known and respected investigative reporter for a world news network based out of Frisco, after Charlie decided to retire and the Townsend Agency had quit business. Charlie’s connections and Kris’ experiences working for him had helped her get the job—not to mention the beautiful blonde hair and gorgeous blue eyes! More than one of the camera men had said, “Don’t worry, with that beautiful smile and hair, just lift the microphone, talk, and you’ll be fine!” Kris decided that beautiful or not, her stories were going to be totally truthful and in depth—since she knew what most of those camera men were really after. She had also gone back to college and got a degree in journalism, while first starting out with small assignments.

Most of the time Kris’ interviews were live but there were those occasions where they had to be taped and then aired later. She traveled all over the United States and the world to get the stories and interviews she needed. She was a different kind of reporter than most. She herself usually did most of her own investigating, even if it got very dangerous. She usually did have other people assigned to help her, but she did a lot of the ‘dirty’ work herself. She was jokingly and respectably well known in her line of work as the “Sly Mike”—Mike meaning microphone.

Kris still occasionally ran into dangerous situations and people while going all over the world to get her stories, so she still carried a gun. The 9mm in her purse was a definite step-up from the old .38 snub-nose revolver that she’d carried while working for Charlie. Back then almost all forms of law enforcement had carried what was known as the .38 Police Special or they carried the snub-nose. Times had definitely changed and Kris was glad to carry a more powerful weapon! There were too many psychos running around and she wanted something that would definitely stop them if needed! There had been a few situations where Kris had had to brandish the weapon to warn someone, or several someones off—even an obsessed admirer that had stalked her for awhile. However, this was very rare and hardly ever occurred. She also kept in shape by exercising regularly, taking the newest self defense classes, and even some martial arts ones. The network actually paid for those so she took advantage of them as often as she could.

Kris had married not long after going to work for the news network. David Atherton had been one of the best and most sought after reporters at the network. After just a few times working together on assignments, Kris and David knew that things were going to be more than just professional. They’d hit-it-off immediately! They dated seriously for six months then got married. In 1986, they had a son Ryan. Ryan was now seventeen, getting ready to start his senior year of high school in the fall. He was staying with David’s parents while Kris had been in New York.

Nine years before, in 1994, tragedy had struck the Athertons. David was hit by a drunk driver and killed. Those first couple years after David’s death had been the hardest that Kris had had to face in a long time. In some ways Kris felt that Ryan had handled it better than she had. On camera, Kris became Munroe again, instead of Atherton. But, in her personal life, off camera, she was still Atherton—mainly for Ryan’s sake. She had lost a lot of important people in her life. Jill’s and her parents had been killed in an auto accident when she was just out of high school. Most of her relatives were now dead and the last person close to her to die had been almost as tough to lose as David.

In 1997, her dear friend and associate from the Townsend Agency, John Bosley had died of a heart attack at his home in Beverly Hills. He had been like a father/favorite uncle to Kris ever since she’d joined Charlie’s team. Over the years, he’d become like a grandfather to Ryan too and Bosley had usually visited the Athertons several times a year. Losing him had been very tough! It still sometimes was and Kris usually chose not to think about it. For a long time she had also chose not to get too close to anyone either. But, recently she’d been dating a criminal lawyer named Justin Morgan and she felt things getting more serious. Maybe it’s time to move on, Kris thought as she drifted off to sleep.

Once the plane had landed at San Francisco International and Kris made it through security and baggage, she hailed a cab to take her to her house. When David and Kris had Ryan, they’d decided to buy a nice big, but not too big, house in the Bayshore area of the Southeast District. The neighborhood was safe, had beautiful views of Frisco, good schools, and beautiful houses. They’d always planned on having more kids but never got around to it. After David was killed, Kris had considered selling the house, after all she and Ryan didn’t need a two story five bedroom house to live in. But she just couldn’t make herself get rid of it, it had so much of her and David in it. Plus, Ryan had stated that he did not want to move away from his school and friends. So, they’d stayed.

Bosley had stayed with Kris and Ryan for months after David had been killed. Having him there had probably helped her more than any doctor could have. But just three years later, Bosley had died too. There were times when Jill, Kelly, Sabrina, Tiffany, and Julie had all visited—along with their families. But, the house had seemed big and empty the past couple years. However, lately Justin had started to change that. Even Ryan liked him and the times he came over for dinner.

The cab pulled up in her drive. Kris paid the fare and, lugging her suitcases, walked up the front walk. She actually was looking forward to a couple nights and days to herself in her own home. Ryan wasn’t coming back from David’s parents for two more days and Justin was in Arizona, preparing for a trial. She walked in the door and went upstairs to the master bedroom. Kris threw her bags on the bed and said aloud with a smile-“I’ll unpack tomorrow!” She then shed the casual suit she was wearing and got an old pair of faded blue jeans and a very old t-shirt (her favorite t-shirt) out of the dresser. The t-shirt was old and faded but it had not frayed or ripped out, and until it did, Kris was going to wear it. She’d gotten the shirt in 1976 while she was still a rookie cop there in San Francisco. It was white with big faded, reddish orange lettering, which said: Starsky & Hutch. At that time, “Starsky & Hutch” had been Kris’ favorite show and when she’d seen the t-shirt in a shop at a mall, she’d bought it and had worn it ever since. After adorning what Kris jokingly called her ‘best outfit,’ she planned to go out and get a good old-fashioned burger and fries.

CHAPTER 3: KELLY GARRETT-“ANGEL’S CAR ON THE
RUN!”

Kelly backed the Navigator out of the drive and headed towards the hospital. She had two important appointments for that morning and one in the afternoon. At the first intersection, the Lincoln stopped without a problem. But, when Kelly tried to stop at the next one, the brake went to the floorboard with no response at all. Once again, fear exploded throughout her body! She pounded the brake over and over with her foot but they were simply no longer there. As Kelly flew through the intersection, horns, honks, and the squealing of tires could be heard for blocks. She expertly steered the Lincoln around other cars in front of her or ones parked along the side. But how long she was going to be able to continue to miss them and how could she stop the runaway SUV?
Suddenly, Déjà vu hit Kelly like she’d been smacked in the face! She remembered experiencing something like this before. In 1980, a lawyer had shown up at her house and said that he thought she was the long lost daughter to a millionaire and was heiress to his estate. He presented all kinds of proof that she had been the millionaire’s baby lost in the confusion of a car accident. During that case, the millionaire father was murdered, and Kris and her had a falling out over the lawyer. It had almost ruined their friendship! But, in the end it had all worked out. Come to find out, Kelly really wasn’t the daughter and unbeknownst to the lawyer, it had all been an elaborate scheme created by a nephew and close associates of the millionaire father. Eventually, they murdered the lawyer and tried to kill Kelly by sabotaging her car. The accelerator had been clamped down and she had been unable to stop. Eventually she’d crashed the car and had ended up in the hospital.

“Well, let’s see if I can’t stop this thing before rolling this time!” Kelly exclaimed aloud. “Oh no!” she cried out as the two cars the Lincoln was coming up on were stopped at a red light.

Kelly shot the Navigator to the right, going around the cars but not before jumping the sidewalk and sideswiping one. The jolt sent the SUV fishtailing into the intersection. But she got the Lincoln under control again quickly while madly trying to think of how to stop. Then she saw a park on her right and decided that there might be an uphill section that she could slow the SUV down and could get out of traffic too. She just hoped there wasn’t too many people in the park. Kelly steered the Lincoln to her right, ‘popped’ the curb, then smashed through the hedge of bushes that served as the park barrier Luckily, there wasn’t anyone playing or lounging behind the bushes where she broke through at.

However, there were plenty of people a ways down and saw what had happened. They began to scatter and run like chickens with their heads cut off. Kelly honked her horn to warn anybody that might still be unaware of her runaway vehicle. Suddenly she saw an uphill part of the part of the park grounds and drove towards it. The Lincoln began to slow down as it started up the hill. Close to the top it slowed enough to where Kelly tried to put it in Park but it slipped into Neutral first! The SUV then, very quickly, started rolling back down. Kelly tried to steer as best she could but it veered to the left at the bottom of the hill and back ended into a tree. The impact wasn’t too serious but hard enough to smash out the back windshield and jerk Kelly around pretty good, causing her to smack her head on the side window. Finally, her terror ride was over! By now people were running up to see if she was okay. One of the spectators had a cell phone so the police and an ambulance were called.

While one of the officers was questioning her, an old friend and homicide detective with the Santa Monica Police walked up. “Hello, Kelly, I see we’re still trying to play ‘Nancy Drew,” joked Sgt. Devane as one of the EMT’s was looking at the bump on her head.

“What are you doing here, Sam?” Kelly asked in surprise. “What was that about Nancy Drew? I’m not investigating cases anymore! You know that. I think my brakes failed is all. I can’t understand it, Alan had both of our cars checked, tuned up, and detailed just two weeks ago.”

“Well, I don’t know what garage you go to, but I looked at your brakes and either the mechanics are idiots or you have some very nasty enemies,” said Sgt. Devane, a little more seriously.

“What are you talking about? Are you saying that someone cut my brake lines?” Kelly exclaimed!

“That’s exactly what I’m saying! They didn’t just break or develop a hole. They were cut, probably with a very sharp knife. The cut was very neat and clean, no pulling, ripping, or tearing. Now, what’s going on, Kelly? If you tell me, I might be able to help you.” Kelly couldn’t believe it! Nothing had happened like this since she’d worked for Charlie. Her head began to spin.

“Sam, I’m serious! The only cases I solve now are emotional ones! I don’t understand any of this! How did you come to be at a car wreck anyway? You work homicide.”

“I heard the call come through on my radio. I recognized the name, vehicle, and tag number. I thought I’d see if you were okay. I’m glad I did. Now, who would do this? There has to be something that’s going on! Nobody takes the time and risk to cut brake lines for no reason!”

“There is nothing I tell you! If there were, I’d be glad to discuss it. But, I can’t think of anyone who would do something like this Maybe it’s just a random psycho that thinks cutting someone’s brake lines is hilarious,” Kelly suggested.

“Come on, you don’t believe that anymore than I do! Cutting brake lines is something that’s planned out and vicious, not some random idea,” Devane spat back at her!

By now the EMT’s wanted to take Kelly to the hospital for further examination. “I’ve gotta go to the hospital, Sam. I still say that I don’t have any enemies that would be this cruel. I’ll think about it and if I come up with something, I’ll let you know, okay?”

“Alright, go. But be careful! If you need protection or come up with some possibilities for suspects, let me know! I’m also very glad you’re okay,” Sgt. Devane said with a kind smile. Kelly smiled back.

“Thank you. But I don’t need protection. I’ll be fine. If I come up with something, you’ll be the first one to know.” His kind smile changed to a sly one as he started walking back to his car and Sam replied-“Why don’t I believe that?” Kelly waved while rolling her eyes.

At the hospital Alan was fit-to-be-tied as he and the emergency room doctor looked Kelly over. “I can’t believe it, someone cut your brake lines?” he practically shouted! Who would do this and why? Are you not telling me something, Kelly?”

“Alan, there’s nothing I’m not telling you! Now calm down, this isn’t helping anyone. Sgt. Devane is looking into it for me, now I’m fine so quit worrying. I don’t know who did this or why. But, I’m sure that the police will come up with something,” cried Kelly in exasperation!

“Oh right, unless the ‘nut’ decided to leave his or her fingerprints all over your car, I doubt the police will find anything-even Sgt. Devane!” Alan exclaimed as the nurses looked at both of them with curious glances.

“Will you lower your voice! Everyone is listening! I don’t exactly want the whole hospital to know what’s happened, Alan!” Kelly demanded. “Now, honey, you just need to calm down! I’m perfectly fine. There’s nothing wrong with me, not even a concussion or whiplash.”

Just then, what appeared to be some sort of delivery man walked into the emergency room. “Uh….is there a Kelly Garrett here?” he asked. Everyone stared at the man with confusion. No one got deliveries or presents in ER.

“I’m Kelly Garrett-Samuelson. Is that for me?” Kelly asked, eyeing the gift package he was carrying cautiously.

“Yea, I guess so. Sign here please.” Kelly took the clipboard and quickly scrawled her name. She waited till the man was gone and started to open the present.

“This is bizarre, who would be sending me a present and how would they know I was here?” Kelly stated to Alan as she began undoing the big red bow on the top. After she took the lid off, Kelly peered inside. Alan, the other doctor, and nurses all jumped as she let out a startled yelp of shock!

“Oh, God, what is this! Who is doing this to me?” yelled Kelly as she put a hand over her mouth in disgust. Alan rushed to the package and looked in. He felt as though his blood had turned cold as he stared at the sickening contents. Inside were a dozen white roses with what appeared to be blood splattered all over them. On closer examination, he discovered that the blood was fake blood, probably a tube of stuff used around Halloween time. Then Alan saw an envelope sitting on top of the stems. It had Kelly’s name on it. He took it out as he put the lid back on the gift box. Kelly took the envelope from Alan’s hand and opened it. Inside was a sheet of 6X9in notebook paper. She read it out loud so Alan could hear.

“How did you like your drive to work this morning? Almost a trip to Heaven, right, Angel?? If you like the flowers, I’ll send some more to your funeral. It’s signed a loving admirer,” finished Kelly as she rested her head in her hands. Alan took her in his arms.

“I knew it! I wondered when you told me that the brakes had been cut but this confirms it! This has to do with Charlie, doesn’t it?” Alan spat with irritation.

“It would seem so, Babe, since the sick writer of this thing refers to me as Angel. Only someone connected with the Agency would know to call me that. It has to be somebody from the past. None of our friends, or acquaintances that we’ve made since we got married would know that Charlie used to call me an Angel. I still don’t understand! I mean, why now, after all these years?” Alan let go of Kelly and looked her in the eye.

“I’m not going to have this going on another second! I’m going to call Charlie and tell him what has happened and demand that something be done, as well as you getting some sort of protection! Then I’m going to tell Mr. Townsend that….”

“No, Alan!” Kelly stated firmly, cutting him off. “If anyone is going to call Charlie, it’s me! I’m the one that is getting threatened and I’m the one that worked for him. So, I’m the one that needs to let him know what’s going on. I know, honey, that you don’t like him because of what happened when we first met. But that wasn’t really Charlie’s fault! He took very good care of us for five awesome years! He was also the one that finally said, after I got shot and almost died, that it was time to stop the agency. Things were getting too psychotic and out-of-hand. Now promise me that you’ll let me handle this. It’s my situation!”

“Kel, your situations are my situations! You can’t cut me out! But go ahead and call Charlie. You just promise me that you will not send me away like before, or not clue me in! I’m your husband now, I love you and I need to help you take care of this if possible, okay?” exclaimed Alan with frustration but kindness in his eyes.

“Of course I’m not going to send you away, goofy!” Kelly exclaimed back with a smile and she leaned over and kissed him. “But, after I first call Charlie he may want to have further phone conversations about this and who knows where he’ll want to do it at. It may not be our house and you may not be able to always be there. But, I promise that I’ll always tell you everything and clue you in, okay?” Alan looked at her suspiciously then grabbed her and kissed her back with a smile.

“Okay, you promised! Now, what about some kind of police protection? I still think you need some kind of bodyguard or something,” suggested Alan, now becoming serious again.

“I’m calling Charlie before I do anything. He’ll tell me what to do,” Kelly replied, pulling her cell phone from her purse. A secretary at Charlie’s house in Hawaii, where he’d retired to, told her that he was in Boston but he’d called recently and given a number he could be reached at. She finally got a hold of Charlie and quickly explained to him what had happened. He immediately was very shocked and concerned!

Kelly, this whole thing has me worried to death! Not only were they trying to harm you but obviously they were trying to play with your mind as well! Just what the motives or reasons are, I’m not sure. Let me check on a few things. You go home! Stay there, with Alan if you can. If he can’t be there, be very careful! Have a weapon of some sort within reach and don’t answer the door or phones unless you recognize the person or phone number!” Charlie demanded with more urgency in his voice than Kelly had heard in a long time. She told him that she understood and that Alan could take her home. They said their goodbyes and then she and Alan left for their house. They stayed there for the rest of the day.

CHAPTER 4: KRIS MUNROE-“AN ANGEL RELAXES….IN
TERROR!”

Kris walked towards the garage smiling. She had been longing to drive her favorite car ever since she’d boarded the plane in New York. Whenever Kris became depressed about David or Bosley, or work was getting tough, she’d ‘don’ her jeans and T-shirt and then take a drive in her Camaro convertible. It always seemed to help clear her head. The Camaro gleamed in the garage light as she pushed the master switch and the door rolled up.

When Charlie had decided to close down the agency, he’d asked each of the Angels if there was something they’d like to keep. For most of the years working for him, Kris had drove the white, with blue racing stripes, Mustang Cobra II, as Jill had before her. It was usually the company car the girls would jokingly argue over who would get to drive it this month. However, the last year they’d worked for Charlie, several cases were in Hawaii-where the Townsend Agency had also had a headquarters.

On Oahu, they’d driven different cars. The one Kris had used was a 1980 Camaro Z28 convertible. It was brown with a big black and gold Z28 (with racing stripe) on each side and hot-rod style rims. It wasn’t as flashy as red or black ones but man could it fly! Kris had loved it and when Charlie had asked what she’d like, she’d immediately said the Camaro! Charlie had had it brought to the mainland and Kris had driven it ever since. She also now had a 2001 silver Chevy Tahoe, which she normally drove to work, took Ryan to his soccer games, and other business commitments she might have. The SUV served especially well with Ryan’s school and athletic events. Usually with him, there were several friends that wanted or needed rides as well.

She put the top down and got in. The Camaro roared up along with the radio. As Kris pulled out of the drive, a local rock station was blaring a song by Sugar Ray. She smiled and hummed along as she looked forward to that Crown Burger from Jimmy’s Diner. For months now, she’d eaten salads, low fat stuff, dieted, exercised, and had lost eight pounds. Kris decided that she’d worked hard enough in New York and deserved to finally ‘cheat’ a little. Jimmy’s Diner was one of those nostalgic ‘50’s diners that still made their food the old fashioned way. The diner was decorated and filled with old ‘50’s attire-1950’s posters, advertisements, kitchen appliances, old records on the walls, and the waitresses wore poodle skirts and bobby socks. The juke box that Jimmy originally put in, in 1952 still worked and sat in the same corner. For the same old cost of 10 cents for a single and three for a quarter, you could hear anything from Glenn Miller, Elvis Presley, or the Beach Boys, to even some ‘70’s, ‘80’s, ‘90’s, and today’s stuff. The old soda fountain and bar stools were still in full use as the ice cream floats, banana splits, and milk shakes were made fresh while you watched. The diner was started in 1948 by a young man named Jimmy Dougan and his wife. Now Jimmy’s was owned and managed by Jimmy’s son Mark and his wife. The diner was one of the most popular hangouts for all ages and it was one of Kris and Ryan’s favorite places to eat.

As Sugar Ray ended and “Stacy’s Mom” by Fountains of Wayne took over the Camaro’s air waves, the man was entering Kris’ house. As he performed his task the man wished he could be there to see her face when she returned. But, he knew that he couldn’t be, not if everything was to go as planned.

Kris pulled into the diner parking lot and went in. As she sat beside a life-sized cardboard statue of Marilyn Monroe, Kris smiled to herself as she thought about when Justin was coming back to town.

After the burger and fries, tummy full, Kris drove back to her house. She decided that she’d soak in her hot tub, drink some wine, and relax. As she entered through the front, Kris immediately knew that something was wrong. The strong odor of some cheap brand of men’s cologne was very pugnant in the air. Someone had been….or still was in the house! Her pulse speeding up to 100mph faster, she took her gun out of her purse and began searching the first floor. She soon discovered that the back door had been forced open. She kicked herself in her mind for not remembering to turn on the alarm before leaving! Kris then ascended, gun ready, to the second floor. After searching all of the rooms, except her own, she knew that the intruder was either in her room or was now gone. Gun pointed out and heart pounding, Kris, with her foot, slowly pushed open her bedroom door. Nothing seemed out of place. Only one room left….her bathroom.

She flicked on the bathroom light as she entered. Immediately Kris could see that nothing was in the hot tub. The only other place to check was the shower. She opened the shower door and slowly peaked into nothing—except she felt her foot catch on something. Kris knew it was a trap, but it was too late! She looked up and shrieked in terror as the figure dropped down upon her!

CHAPTER 5: “THERE IS NO HONOR AMONG THIEVES...
OR KILLERS!”

After the man made sure that his box of flowers was delivered to Kelly Garrett, he decided to call Master—as he’d been instructed to refer to the disguised voice on the phone. He could tell the mysterious voice on the phone that had hired him to terrorize Kelly Garrett was disguised with some sort of electronic devise. The voice sounded very similar to the voice of the ‘Ghost Face’ killer in the “Scream” movies. The flower delivery wasn’t exactly in the plan but then again, the car ride the Garrett woman had taken wasn’t exactly what had been instructed either. He had been told to only give Kelly Garrett a scare by waiting until after she’d left for work. Then a ways from her house he was supposed to start pretending to terrorize her with a car that Master had provided—an old beat up 1985 Ford Crown Victoria LTD. It was stolen but the plates had been switched. He was told to rear end her, drive up along side of her and ram her a little, and almost run her off the road but eventually let her go.

However, the temptation of doing some real damage to Kelly Garrett had been too much and he’d decided to cut her brake lines on her Lincoln SUV. When she’d not really been hurt and taken to a hospital, he’d decided to give her one more little taunt with the flowers and the note. Now it was time to talk to Master and let him or her know what had occurred. Plus he wanted to know when he could finally kill Garrett! He was tired of all this screwing around with just scaring and taunting. This Master person was starting to really piss him off, just like his father used to. As far as he was concerned, the slut deserved to die for what she’d done to him, and he wanted to do it NOW!! He called the cell phone number he’d been given for contact and waited. On the third ring the bizarre voice of Master answered.

Master was NOT pleased when the events were confessed “You dumb ass! You’re going to ruin everything! You agreed to do as I asked as long as I promised to eventually let you kill Kelly Garrett. Now you may have screwed up everything! We need to meet and discuss the situation more,” screamed Master over the cell phone! An address and instructions on how to get there were given before an abrupt hang up sounded in his ear. He drove the old LTD until he found the address.

It turned out to be an old abandoned warehouse in the middle of downtown L.A. He was suspicious but he was going to get paid a lot of money for scaring the Garrett woman and he also wanted to know when he could actually kill her! So, he decided to enter. The old dusty windows provided some light but for the most part it was very dark. From somewhere in the dark of the large room came the weird voice, instructing him to sit in the chair at the other end of the room. He walked in the dark till finally he saw it. He sat down and waited….nothing.

“Hey, what the hell is going on here? I’ve put up with this stupid game for long enough! Give me my money, I’ll kill Garrett, and we’ll all be satisfied!” he exclaimed. The barely audible voice of Master softly echoed towards him.

“You stupid, loser, idiot! You were to do exactly as I told you to. Now you have jeopardized my whole plan. I think you have outlived your usefulness to me. You didn’t actually think that I was going to let you be the one to kill Miss Garrett did you? Stupid! Goodbye.”

Suddenly, he understood. He’d been used and was never planned on being paid or allowed to kill Kelly Garrett. He felt as though someone had just kicked him in the stomach as the realization that he was about to be killed set in! The quick, deadened-like sound of a silencer sounded and the back of his head splattered out onto the warehouse floor. His dead body slumped to the ground.

CHAPTER 6: SABRINA DUNCAN-“BLACK ROSES
USUALLY MEAN DEATH—EVEN FOR ANGELS!”

The bizarre bouquet of black roses that had been mysteriously left on her office desk had troubled Sabrina’s mind all day. Someone was obviously playing a sick prank, but who and why? When she had arrived at work that morning, her secretary had informed her that a strange gift had been delivered to her. When asked, no one knew who had delivered it.

The dozen black roses were wrapped in black tissue paper that had been streaked with what appeared to be blood. On closer inspection the blood turned out to be paint. A small card, with one single word on it, had been pinned to the stems of the flowers; it read “Death!” In her line of work it was rare, but not totally unheard of for Sabrina to receive a threat of some sort. In the past twenty years or so she had been threatened on the phone while trying to question someone, even a few ‘hate letters’ had found their way to her desk. Most of them were only written in the heat of the moment and anger. This one however, was different. It made Sabrina’s skin crawl and it gave her goose bumps. There was something oddly familiar about it as well as being unnerving. Someone had gone to an unusual amount of trouble to create this sickening arrangement and then sneak it into the insurance company without being noticed.

In the summer of 1979, Sabrina Duncan had been working for Charles Townsend Investigations. Charlie had decided to treat all of the Angels to vacations that year. Sabrina had decided that she wanted to go to Rome. Before leaving the next day, Charlie had summoned all of them to the office for an unknown, third year anniversary (two year for Kris) of the agency. They had champagne and toasted each other. Sabrina had no way of knowing that this would be the last time she would be one of Charlie’s detectives.

When Sabrina had first gone to the Los Angeles Police Academy she had met a homicide detective, Bill Duncan, who was four years older. She helped him on a couple of investigations and they became close friends, eventually dating. After a few months they married. Both of them were in love but their jobs started interfering with their relationship. The long hours, different schedules, and especially when Sabrina started to become more involved with homicide investigations eventually broke up their marriage. Bill did not want her working on dangerous cases and Sabrina wanted to further her career. They divorced after almost two years, but they parted on very good terms. They remained close friends and even went out a few times with each other in the years to follow. Bill almost went nuts when Sabrina went to work for Charlie, but he also congratulated her.

Sabrina went to Rome that summer, not knowing that Bill Duncan had found out where she was going and followed her there as a surprise. A couple days before, he had been shot in the arm during the apprehension of a murder suspect. It had been a minor wound that healed quickly, but it had also been his first injury as a policeman. It had made him realize how fragile life really was. He had always felt that it had been mostly his fault for his and Sabrina’s failed marriage. He wanted to see if she would consider starting a new relationship, but much slower and wiser this time. When Charlie told him that she was in Rome on vacation, Bill decided to take some long overdue time off and follow her there.

Sabrina had been overjoyed when he had shown up. They spent almost the whole time together and without either one of them planning on it happening that quickly, they decided to rekindle their relationship. When they returned from Rome, they had a small but very nice wedding ceremony and Bill and Sabrina married for the second time. He told her that, even though he didn’t like her working for Charlie because of the danger factor, he would be willing to still let her do that if it meant being together. However, Sabrina had been giving it a lot of thought and, even though it was a heart wrenching decision, she decided to resign from the Townsend Agency and stay at home; at least for a while. A month later, in July, Sabrina found out she was pregnant.

The following spring, in March of 1980, Andrew William Duncan was born. Both Sabrina and Bill were overjoyed and they decided that they would call him Andy. For the first couple years Sabrina stayed home with Andy while Bill moved himself up from a homicide detective to a Lieutenant’s position in Phoenix, Arizona, if he would consider transferring there. They talked it over and the Duncans moved to Phoenix in 1982. After a few months in Arizona, Sabrina decided to start looking for work again, at least part time. She wanted something dealing with investigation but not too dangerous because of Andy. She eventually got a part time job at a very reputable insurance company, Malcovich and Blane Insurance Firm. Sabrina worked in the investigative dept. where suspicious claims were investigated and checked out.

Her first case she solved in five days and caught a woman trying to collect $500,000 life insurance on her dead husband, who supposedly drowned in the backyard pool. There had been some questions about the condition of the body and other things that the police were still trying to answer. When the police officer in charge of the investigation found out that Sabrina had worked for Charlie Townsend, he immediately asked her to help out. There didn’t end up being any danger to the case and they eventually proved that the wife had had her new lover drown the husband in the pool and try and make it look like an accident. The case made headlines and Charlie, Bosley, Kelly, Kris, Jill, Tiffany, and Julie had all called at different times to congratulate her. The insurance firm immediately wanted her full time, but until Andy started school, Sabrina wanted to only be a half day investigator.

When Andy started first grade, Sabrina finally agreed to the constant offer of being a full time investigator. She was doing what she loved best and for Andy’s sake she didn’t have to worry about the constant danger factor. Over time, Sabrina became one of the top investigators and the tough claims usually found their way to her desk. Unfortunately, Sabrina and Bill’s second marriage couldn’t last a second time.

In 1986 Bill Duncan’s partner was killed in a police stand-off during the arrest of a murder suspect. Bill became very depressed and started to drink very heavily. He was never physically abusive but he could be very hurtful verbally. Sabrina tried to get him to go to counseling and join an A.A. group but he refused. Finally, late the next year, Sabrina had had enough. She filed for divorce and got sole custody of Andy. The agreement was that until Bill got counseling and got off the alcohol that he couldn’t see Andy. For a while it was hell for all three of them!

Eventually Bill was able to become sober and he got therapy to deal with the death of his partner. They, with mutual agreement, went back to court and changed it to joint custody of Andy. However, both Sabrina and Bill knew that their relationship was over. They still remained good friends for Andy’s sake. A few years later, Sabrina met and started dating an accountant. He was very good with Andy and things became very serious. Sabrina felt like maybe he was the ‘one.’ However, he suddenly claimed that he had found another woman and broke off their relationship. The new woman turned out to be his secretary. It was very hard for Sabrina and from then on she turned her full attention to Andy and work.

All the while growing up Andy had always said he liked his mom’s job and wanted to do the same. This past year, after college, he applied at the insurance company. He was hired and Andrew Duncan turned out to be almost as good an investigator as his mother was! There had already been several high profile cases that Andy had assisted Sabrina on. Much to Sabrina’s dismay, at night Andy also was a part time volunteer policeman. He rode along with a couple of other uniforms and helped where he could. Sabrina thought it was way too dangerous but Andy, always with a smile, would remind Sabrina of when she worked for Charlie and that dad was a cop. There wasn’t much she could reply with to that.

Sabrina went and got a box from the storeroom and stuck the black roses in it. She locked the box up in a closet in her office. By mid-day she had forgotten about them. That night Andy had come over for dinner.

“So, Mom, tell me, when are you going to start dating again?” Andy half teased, however, he was half serious too.

“Andy!” Sabrina laughed. “I don’t have time to start dating again! Besides, I’ve never really been real good at choosing in that dept. What brought this up anyway? You haven’t been dating for a couple weeks now either….or am I not privy to some secret new relationship,” Sabrina teased back.

“It’s just that you never have any fun, unless I drag you out somewhere! What about Graham Carson? He’s nice and I know he really likes you. You should ask him out sometime,” Andy declared with a smile. Graham Carson was another operative in the investigative dept. at the firm.

“Oh right! I don’t think so! He’d probably think I was an idiot if I just walked up to him and asked him out on a date! Besides, like I said, I don’t have time right now. Do you want some more coffee, bud?” she asked as she stood up and waited for his response.

“Yes I’ll take more coffee but you are just making excuses about Graham,” Andy finished as Sabrina walked into the kitchen and both were smiling. However, the short cry and the crash of the coffee tin hitting the tile floor erased the smile from Andy’s face and sent him flying into the kitchen to see what was going on! His mother was backed up against the counter with a shocked look on her face. The coffee tin was in the middle of the floor with coffee grounds spilled all over the tile. After a couple of closer glances Andy also noticed something else amongst the coffee—a small bizarre looking black flower. It looked like a rose.

“Mom, what’s wrong? What is that thing?” he cried, pointing to the strange flower.

“Andy, that was not here this morning! That black rose was not here twelve hours ago! Someone has been here in my house!” Sabrina yelled as she walked from the kitchen towards her den.

CHAPTER 7: KRIS MUNROE-“THE ANGEL AND THE
DUMMY!”

As the figure hit her, they both went to the ground! Still shrieking, Kris suddenly realized that it was a cloth dummy that somebody had crudely drawn a girl’s face on as well as attached an old blonde wig. A big cardboard question mark had been duck-taped to the head. In the middle of the forehead, a very grotesque, realistic looking bullet hole had either been painted on or drawn on with markers. Fake blood had then been smeared from the bullet hole down into the face.

Shaking, whimpering, and heart still slamming, Kris threw the dummy off of her and backed out of the shower. It was then that she saw the message written on the mirror. In bright red lipstick, a crudely written message read: You’ve probably FORGOTTEN me but I REMEMBER you! Soon we’ll get together and I’ll refresh your MEMORY! Then it’s time to die Angel Bitch!! Just like the dummy!

Still holding her gun in one hand, the other hand over her mouth in horrific shock, Kris stared at the sick note. Then she rushed over to the toilet and ‘lost’ the dinner she’d so enjoyed just a little while before. As she slowly got herself together, she walked out of the bathroom to the telephone. First she called the police to report a break-in. Then, because of the reference to Angel, she knew who else she had to call—Charlie. Kris tried his number in Hawaii, where he’d retired to, but only got his voicemail; which told her he had flown to Boston number for someone who, although Christmas and birthday cards had been exchanged as well as an occasional phone call, she hadn’t seen in six years—since Bosley’s funeral. On the second ring the familiar hello of Tiffany Welles sounded in Kris’ ear. “Tiff, it’s Kris.”

“Kris, hi! How are you? I haven’t talked to you for so long! I got the birthday card you sent. Thank you, it was lovely!” Tiffany began.

“You’re welcome, Tiff. Right now I need some help.” Tiffany knew by the sound of her voice that something was horribly wrong.

“Kris, what’s wrong? You sound scared to death! What’s happened?” Kris then told Tiffany what had just occurred and that she needed to find Charlie. He was staying there in Boston and could she somehow find him and get him a message. “I’ll get on it right now! Have you called Kelly or any of the others?” Kris told her that she thought it’d be best to talk to Charlie first. Tiffany agreed and told her that she had contacts all over Boston and getting a hold of Charlie shouldn’t be too hard. “If the police are on the way and you’re okay, then I’ll get off and start calling around. Hang in there, Kris, we all love you up here ya know. Let me know if there is anything more I can help with and please keep my posted!” Tiffany reassured. They finished their goodbyes and then Kris’ house lit up police cruisers pulling into her driveway. Two and a half hours later, Charlie called.

“Kris, I’m horrified by what happened! Are you alright?”

“Yeah, Charlie, I’m slowly calming down. It’s good to hear your voice! Now, I know this is somehow connected to our old agency because the message refers to me as Angel. The intruder must be either tied to you or me and our past, Charlie. What should I do?” At first Charlie was silent. Then he told her that earlier that day Kelly had gone through a horrifying car ride and had received a threatening bouquet of flowers that included an Angel message.

“Oh my God! Is she okay?” Kris cried!

“She’s fine and Alan is with her. Now, get out of your house. Go to a friend’s house or hotel. Call Tiffany back and let only her know where you’re staying. I’m going to immediately start checking on a few things. I’ll call your cell phone with what to do next,” Charlie replied.

“Okay, Charlie, I’ll be waiting.” They said goodbye and then Kris quickly called Tiffany back, packed a suitcase, got into the Tahoe, and headed for a hotel. She knew one with lots of people around, just in case the dummy’s ‘daddy’ or ‘mommy’ decided to pay another visit. She also made sure she had her 9mm and plenty of ammunition.

CHAPTER 8: SABRINA DUNCAN-“GUNS & ROSES &….
ANGELS!”

“Mom, what’s going on? Who has been here? Are you telling me that someone broke in here today?” Andy demanded as he ran after her! Sabrina reached her den and went straight for the desk. She opened the middle drawer and pulled out a key. Next, she unlocked a side drawer, opened it, and removed an old 45 Magnum revolver and bullets. She began loading it.
“Where the hell did you get that thing?” cried Andy!

“Your father gave it to me not long after the second divorce. He said that if he couldn’t be here to protect us, he felt better knowing I had this. I just never had it out much while you were growing p. Other than an occasional trip to a shooting range, I almost always keep it locked here in the desk. However, with what happened at the office this morning and the rose here tonight, I think it’d be better if I had this at arm’s length.”

“What happened at the office this morning? Did you get one of those roses there?” Andy was practically shouting now.

“Yes, I got several with what was supposed to look like blood on them. It was just paint. I thought someone was just ticked off at me for proving their insurance claim fraudulent, but now I’m sure someone is trying to be a lot sicker than that. Someone is….recreating a case I solved a long time ago, when I still worked for Charlie. But, I don’t understand how.” Sabrina seemed to now be talking more to herself than Andy. “Most of the ones involved in that case are either dead or in prison. Unless one of them has now gotten out….” her voice trailed off.

“Mom, talk to me! Tell me what is going on! What case from Uncle Charlie are you talking about?” Most of the Angels offspring referred to Charlie (even though they never saw him) and Bosley as uncles, each other as cousins, and the other Angels as aunts. Especially when all the kids were little, the Angels and Bosley would try and get together at least a couple times a year. To the kids everyone was family, even though no one was actually blood related (except Kris and Jill). The idea of having a secret uncle that nobody could ever see was awesome to Andy while growing up! It was like having a secret agent in the family. Charlie used to love to ‘play’ up that on the phone when Andy was little.

“Andy, I can’t talk about it right now! I have some phone calls to make. Besides, this is something that I need to handle,” Sabrina stated as she started towards the phone on the desk. Andy, however, caught hold of her arm and stopped her.

“No, Mom, you’re going to explain this whole thing to me now! Look, I know that you used to work dangerous cases when you worked for Uncle Charlie. I know that all of this was before my time and I’ve never really worked a case like one of those. However, I’m learning a lot by working with the police and I’ve helped a few times in some ‘hairy’ situations. Plus, I’m not some little kid anymore. I’m not going to have psychos stalking or trying to harass my mother! Now start talking!” Sabrina looked at her son and smiled.

“I’m sorry. I just sometimes revert and still think of you as my little Andy that I have to protect. However, I don’t know what you can do to help since this case was several years before you were born. You remember Angela Harris don’t you?” asked Sabrina starting her explanation.

“Yes, vaguely. I met her a couple times when I was little,” Andy replied.

“Well, I think it was in ’77 and Angela, or Angie as everyone called her, was working as a head stewardess for Global Airlines. She began being terrorized and harassed by someone. Both in her apartment and at work, black roses would be left in places that no one should have access to. Then the person would call and let Angie know that they had been there and could get to her anytime they wanted.” By now both Sabrina and Andy had sat down.

“My God! Who was doing it and why?” Andy asked.

“Angie and I are old college roommates and she hired us Angels to help her. Another stewardess, a Marilyn Bassett, ended up being killed by the nut. We ended up figuring out that it was the head pilot, a Capt. Bill Glover if I remember his name right, and another executive from the airline. His name was Cliff Culver, I think, and they’d set it all up. They needed to use Angie to help them kidnap the plane so-to-speak, something about a new automated flight system installed in the jet that they were going to steal and sell. So, they scared her into doing what they asked.” Sabrina paused and began to laugh.

“Forgive me if I’m too young or too dense to see the humor in this but what is so darn funny?” Andy exclaimed, looking at his mother like she’d finally ‘lost’ it.

“I’m sorry, honey, it’s just that I suddenly remembered that Kelly, with no flying experience at all, had to end up landing the plane. Capt. Glover and Culver had hijacked the plane during a test flight. Kris and Kelly managed to get back control of the plane but then had to figure out how to land it.” Andy joined her in laughter.

“Aunt Kelly had to land an airline jet?” he cried! “How did she manage to do it?” Sabrina sighed from laughing and explained that an experienced pilot in the control tower had talked her through it.

“I was in the control tower and there were a few moments where none of us knew they’d make it or not! We were all scared to death and at the time it was NOT funny! But, we laugh about it now. I guess we have to, to keep from freaking out by thinking about what could have happened instead.”

“So, what happened to this Glover and the other guy, Culver?” Andy inquired.

“I know what you’re thinking, Babe, and I would be thinking exactly the same thing—that maybe Glover and Culver could be trying to get back at me now. The problem with that is that both of those men are dead. Capt. Glover was actually killed by Angie aboard the plane, during the hijack. In a freak accident a gun went off and Glover was shot. Cliff Culver was sent to prison. I think he was later killed in a prison fight. So, it can’t be either one of them. This is why I don’t know what’s going on! Someone is very well informed about that particular case and is obviously letting me know it. But who….and why?” Sabrina asked more to herself than Andy. The cordless phone on the desk rang. Sabrina picked it up.

“Hello, Sabrina! Did you like the roses?” the bizarre, disguised voice asked. Goosebumps broke out on her arms as she hit the speaker button so the call could be heard by Andy too. “I just thought I’d let you know that I could get to you anytime I want to, Angel! After all, black roses usually mean death, don’t they? Say hi to Angela for me. Goodbye!” finished the voice as the sick caller hung up. Sabrina could hardly believe it! It was the same voice that had taunted Angie Harris over twenty-five years before.

“Mom, was that the guy that did this to Angela originally?” Andy asked, his face a shade whiter.

“Yes….and no. That’s the same voice, it’s disguised like it was the first time. However, it can’t be the same guys because they’re both dead. But, the caller referred to me as Angel. Only someone with knowledge of my past career and the old case would know to call me that. Somebody’s recreating Angie’s ordeal, only now it’s on me! But I don’t understand who or why!” Sabrina shouted in frustration. Andy suggested that she call Angela Harris and see if any thing weird had happened to her lately. Sabrina got out her personal phone book and looked up the number.

“I haven’t spoken to her for several years now. She moved to New York not long after the ‘rose stalkers’ were caught. After that we just slowly lost touch. Angela was home and was overjoyed to hear from her. Sabrina slowly brought the conversation around to the old case. Without alarming her that a new ‘rose nut’ was on-the-prowl, she got Angie to say that everything was going wonderful in her life and that the whole mess with the roses and plane was finally behind her. So, the stalker was obviously only after Sabrina and the message to: “Say hi to Angela” was just to get her attention and let her know that the reason for this craziness had to do with the old case—not necessarily with Angela Harris. Andy ended up staying the night and Sabrina agreed, after his demands, to call Charlie and let him in on what had happened. She’d call the next morning.

The next day, Sabrina and Andy left in her Chrysler 300 and headed for the insurance firm. They would call Charlie from there because both of them had several other matters to take care of as well. They pulled into the underground parking garage and got out of the car.

“Hey, how’s the ‘Dynamic Duo’ this morning?” yelled a familiar voice. Sabrina and Andy turned around and down a ways was one of their colleagues walking towards them.

“Hey, Diane, what’s goin’ on?” yelled Sabrina back, smiling. Suddenly, out of nowhere, there was a loud screeching of tires as a white work van came flying towards Diane! Both Andy and Sabrina yelled at her to look out and get out of the way, but the van was too fast! Sabrina screamed as a horrible thud sounded and Diane was thrown off to one side. As she lay there, the driver of the van leaned out the window and threw something on her body. Andy could see that he was dressed in all black and wore your typical ‘stick-up man’ ski mask. The van screeched away as fast as it had come.

Both Sabrina and Andy ran to Diane and checked to see if she was still alive. “She’s got a pulse but it’s very weak! Call 911!” Andy screamed to his mother. Sabrina got out her cell phone and made the call. Then they both noticed the thing that the psycho driver had thrown on Diane. It was a long black rose and there was a not pinned to the stem again. With trembling hands, Sabrina unfolded the note. It read: “You’re next Angel!” Suddenly, the sirens of the ambulance and the police were echoing throughout the parking garage. Sabrina moaned and tears streamed down her face. Andy led her away from Diane.

“Oh God, Andy, I let this happen! Because of me, Diane might die! I should’ve known something like this would happen! I should’ve stayed at home and not led this freak to someone else!”

“Mom, stop it! You and I both know that this is not your fault! You could’ve never known that this would happen! He’s ‘toying’ with you, trying to psych you out. Granted he’s winning so far, but we’re not going to deal with this crap by ourselves anymore! Let’s answer the police’s questions and then we’re immediately calling Uncle Charlie!” Andy stated. Sabrina agreed.

“Sabrina, you and Andy get out of there! Have him take you back to your house and pack for several days. Check into a hotel near the airport until I contact you. I’ll call you on your cell phone after I’ve checked with the police there and on a few other things as well. I’m terribly sorry that this has happened to you but I’m afraid for all you Angels!” Charlie exclaimed after Sabrina had told him of the rose events. He then told her about the things that had happened to Kelly and Kris. He had also been in contact with Jill, Tiffany, and Julie but so far nothing strange or out of the ordinary had happened to them.

On the way to Sabrina’s house, Andy was persistent in staying with her at the hotel. “Andy, I don’t want to here anymore about this! I realize that you’re an adult now and that you’re trying to help me. I love you for it but I will NOT have you put in any form of danger, especially if it’s my problem! You won’t know all the details of how the copy-cat stalker will work because you don’t know all the details of the original case. Let me take care of it!”

“Mom, I won’t have you running from this psycho by yourself! I’m not taking no for an answer. I’m going to at least stay in a room connected to yours until Uncle Charlie calls,” Andy demanded right back! Sabrina smiled as she realized that if things were the other way around, she would have not left Andy alone either, twenty-three or not.

“Okay, it’s a deal! You can get a room connected to mine. But, as soon as Charlie calls and tells me what we’re going to do, you’re going straight home! Understand?” Andy seemed to somewhat relax. Sabrina then called the insurance company on her cell to tell them that, besides the ordeal with Diane in the parking garage earlier, there had been a family emergency and that she wouldn’t be I for a while. She’d call them later with details. She then called the hospital where Diane had been taken to find out about her condition. She still was in ICU but was doing better. After stopping by both their houses to pack, Andy drove them to the Marriott Phoenix Airport Hotel. It was only one mile North of Sky Harbor International Airport. If Charlie wanted Sabrina to fly somewhere quick, they were about as close to the airport as you could get. They checked into two connecting suites and Andy ordered them both some food—a green salad with grilled strips of chicken on top and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc for his mother, and some shrimp, fries, and a bottle of Killian’s Irish Red for himself.

“You can’t freak out on an empty stomach,” he joked to try and cheer them both up. Sabrina smiled as she nibbled on some fries and sipped her wine. Two hours later, Charlie called.

PART 2: “ANGELS COME HOME!”

CHAPTER 9: JILL MUNROE & KRIS MUNROE-“MY ANGEL, MY SISTER!”

After Jill Munroe had left the Townsend Agency after just one year, she had pursued her other life-long dream, racing cars. She had started training to race with several top drivers at the time. A lot of races were in Europe or Spain. Over time Jill became one of the top drivers and made many friends in the business. Unfortunately, one friend turned out to not be such a good friend after all and even ended up causing the death of Jill’s fiancé at the time—Steve Carmedy. Steve was another top driver in the racing business. It had happened during her first return trip to Los Angeles. Kris, Kelly, Bosley, and Sabrina had all been there to help her and a friend, Paul Ferrino. Jill had known Ferrino for a couple years and he had supposedly developed a new high-tech race car that could mean new possibilities in fuel consumption for regular cars, in the future—if it worked. However, supposedly, someone was trying to sabotage or destroy his new car. Paul wanted Jill to drive the car in the race while trying to figure out who was doing it. It turned out that he was sabotaging his own car and making it look like someone was out to get him, all because his new fuel idea didn’t really work. Unfortunately, Jill’s fiancé, Steve, was blown up in a freak accident with the car.

It had taken a long time for Jill to get over Steve’s death. She’d almost quit the racing business but several friends, and Kris, had all talked her into sticking with it. They knew how much she loved it and she was good at it. She threw herself into racing and became very well known in the racing circuit all over Europe and the U.S. Eventually she met another racer and sponsor, Adrian McKenzie. They became very close and formed Munroe/McKenzie Speedway, Inc. Together they began to help train and sponsor new, promising drivers who were starting out their careers. Jill and Adrian married and not only trained and sponsored new drivers but over time began to develop their own new race cars as well! Many of Munroe/McKenzie race cars had won important and top races. In 1984, Jill gave birth to a baby girl, they named Sherridan Kristine McKenzie (named after her sister Kris—her full first name being Kristine). The next year, in ’85, they had a son, who they named Sawyer.

Things seemed to be going great for a few years, but over time Jill and Adrian’s marriage began to fall apart. Between the business and the kid’s activities, there was never any time for each other. Then the ‘blow’ came and Jill discovered that Adrian was having an affair with one of their top female drivers. When confronted, he admitted it and did actually break it off with the driver. But, the damage had been too great. They separated for several months, and then in 1991, after ten years of marriage they divorced.

It was devastating for everyone and that summer, Jill took the kids and spent a lot of time with Kris & David, Kelly & Alan, Bosley, and Sabrina. These people were her family and closest friends and she needed to be with them. Having fun with their cousins was good for Sherridan and Sawyer too. Everyone was supportive and loving but the two people who were the most helpful to Jill were Bosley and Sabrina.

John Bosley had been married once and had divorced not long after Charlie had hired Sabrina, Kelly, and Jill. Sabrina had been married and divorced to Bill Duncan twice. Both of them knew what it was like and were able to talk and counsel Jill through the rough times. Once again, Jill threw herself into her career and her kids, both of whom were now in college. At first everything for Munroe/McKenzie Speedway, Inc. were put on hold. Eventually, mainly for Sherridan and Sawyer’s sake, Jill and Adrian agreed to keep the business going. They would just try to operate on a business level only. It was hard and weird at first but over time it became exactly that—business. After a couple years, Jill dated quite a bit but never got serious with anyone. Her life was the race car business, her kids, and Kris and Ryan.

The last time Jill had seen Kris had been eight months before, November 2002 for Thanksgiving. She, Sherridan, and Sawyer had flown to Frisco and spent the holiday with Kris and Ryan. However, when Charlie had called Jill and told her what had happened to Kris, she wasted no time in agreeing to help. He told her what hotel Kris was staying in and instructed them to fly out of San Francisco to Los Angeles immediately, he’d already set up and paid for Jill’s flight into San Francisco and her and Kris’ flight to Los Angeles from there. They were to go straight to their old office building, which Charlie still owned and used as a guest house for friends when they visited L.A. Charlie told Jill he’d explain more when they got there.

Kris felt like she’d go mad if Charlie didn’t call her soon! It’d been almost two days since her attack-of-the-dummy and she hated waiting and being cooped up—especially in the middle of the summer. Even though the air conditioner was working fine, it still felt sticky and stuffy in the hotel room. She wished she could take a dip in the pool, but that would be stupid and putting herself out in the open. Suddenly, there was a loud knock at the door. Immediately her heart began pounding and her gun was out! She’d specifically instructed the hotel to not disturb her at all!

“Housekeeping!” came the weird high pitched voice from the other side of the door. “May I fluff your pillow?” it continued. Kris could definitely tell that the person was trying to disguise their voice, but they were doing a terrible job. Strange enough, but Kris’ first reaction was to laugh at the bizarre voice behind the door. She felt sure the lines spoken were from a comedy movie she’d seen with Ryan once. But, no one knew she was here and no one was supposed to disturb her. The smile from her face was gone in a second and the gun was back out in front of her. Slowly, and with the chain still engaged, Kris began to open the door. Her heart jumped but it was from joy, not fear! It was Jill with a wry smile on her face.

“Jill, what are you doing here? Oh my gosh, it’s so good to see you! How did you know I was here?” Kris exclaimed as she opened the door all the way and threw her arms around her sister. “Wait a minute, let me guess….Charlie,” she stated, answering her own questions. Still hugging they walked back into the room and Jill began to get Kris’ bags together. “What are you doing? Where are we going?” Kris asked as she began to help her pack.

“We’re going home, Babe,” Jill replied with a smile and wink. “Charlie wants us all to fly to L.A. immediately and go to our old office. He said he’ll tell us more when we’re there. He’s booked us on a flight which leaves for LAX in two hours,” Kris looked at Jill with impatience.

“He didn’t say anything more than that?” she exclaimed! Jill shook her head. Kris groaned in frustration as Jill took her arm.

“I’m really sorry about what happened, Kris. I’m also very scared about why and who is dong this to you, Kelly, and Brie. I’m not leaving your side until this is resolved.” Kris could see fear in her eyes.

“Thank you. I’m really glad you’re here, Jill. We’ll get this worked out, especially if we work together,” Kris replied as they both hugged again.

Then Kris knew she had to phone David’s parents again and tell them where she was going. She had talked to them the other night and had not told them details but had let them now that there had been a break-in at the house and it had to deal with her old job before she met David. She wanted them to keep Ryan for now to keep him out of danger. Ryan didn’t know anything that was going on and Kris wanted to keep it that way. David’s parents had always loved Kris and had treated her just like a daughter. They knew that she used to work for Charles Townsend and the job had been somewhat dangerous. When she talked to them again and told them she was going to L.A., they were immediately worried. But, they were only too glad to keep Ryan, especially if it meant keeping him safe. Kris then spoke to Ryan for a little bit. He rambled on about a movie, “Pirates of the Caribbean,” that he and some friends had seen the night before. Then she promised David’s mom that she’d keep in touch regularly. After that, Kris called the news network and spoke to her boss. She told him she didn’t know how long this would take, but after all she had a ton of vacation time coming anyway. Her boss could tell something was up and he told her that if there was a story in it to be sure and get it! Then she and Jill headed for San Francisco International.

CHAPTER 10: KELLY GARRETT-“ANGEL TRIP DOWN
MEMORY LANE!”

Alan was livid after Charlie had called and instructed Kelly where to go. He paced up and down their bedroom as she began packing. “Kel, I will not have you doing this by yourself anymore! Remember, you promised that I would not be shut out this time! This whole thing is crazy and dangerous, you’re not twenty-five or twenty-eight years old anymore!” he yelled as she put jeans and pants into her favorite antique suitcase. Kelly sighed. She knew this was coming.

“Alan, I’m not doing this alone. Kris, Sabrina, and Jill will be there too. I’m not shutting you out! I promise I will keep you informed regularly. Besides, you can’t go with me! You have several major heart surgeries scheduled for this next week. I won’t have other people’s lives put in jeopardy because of my problems. I also don’t want your life put in danger either, Babe! This has to do with old situations that you don’t know the details about. I don’t think you could really help all that much! Also, thank you so much for reminding me of my current age!” Kelly declared back.

“I’m not calling you old, honey, but you haven’t done this kind of work for a long time! There are other surgeons that can do my surgeries for me. I can come along and be with you every second to make sure nothing happens while you….investigate or whatever. I can’t let you do this on your own!” Kelly took a breath again.

“Alan, for the last time, I won’t be alone. The other girls will be there! If we work together like before, we might be able to catch who is doing this a lot quicker. I know you’d be with me to try and protect me but I don’t want you in danger either. Too many people depend on you to heal them anyway,” she teased with a smile. “I promise I’ll call you regularly to tell you what’s happening, okay? Now let me finish packing.” Alan walked from the room without a reply. Kelly finished packing her bags and then called a cab. Charlie had specifically told her not to bring one of her cars. He’d provide them with automobiles later. She smiled to herself as she thought—if there was an old yellow (probably by now rusted out) 1976 Mustang waiting for her, she’d smack Charlie….or at least tell him over the phone that he’d been smacked. Twenty minutes later, the cab pulled into the drive and honked.

“I love you, Alan! I promise I’ll be careful and talk to you all the time. I’m going to call Greg and Hollie on the way,” Kelly said as she was ready to walk out the door.

“What are you going to tell them? Mommy has to go catch a bad guy and put her life in danger, have fun,” Alan spat sarcastically. Kelly looked straight at him.

“I think you know me better than that. I don’t want the kids to know anything that’s going on! I’m telling them that Kris, Sabrina, Jill, and I are having a long overdue reunion with each other. In many ways it’s not a lie. We should’ve gotten together more often. All of us haven’t been together at one time since….,” her voice trailed off.

“Since Bosley’s funeral,” finished Alan for her. He took Kelly in his arms and kissed her long and hard. “I’m sorry but I’m still very angry about this! I don’t think it’s right. But, I guess I can’t stop you. If you don’t call me twice a day and keep me informed, I WILL come find you. Understand?”

“I promise! You know the address and phone number of Charlie’s old office building and of course you have my cell number. I love you, gotta go,” Kelly said as they kissed and the cab honked again. Alan watched her till the cab was out of sight. He would call her in two hours. If she didn’t answer one of the phones, he would come looking.

“Where to, lady?” asked the cabbie after a couple blocks.

“193 Robertson Blvd, Beverly Hills. It’s at the intersection of Robertson Blvd and Clifton Way,” Kelly replied. She hadn’t thought about that address in six years. Not since the depressing rainy day in 1997 when all of them: Sabrina, Jill, Kris, Tiffany, Julie, herself, and their families had buried their dear friend and associate John Bosley. Charlie had been nearby in a window-darkened limo, crying as much as the girls. That had been the last time they’d been together. However, none of them had wanted to meet at the office building after the funeral, too many memories. Charlie had reserved the back room at Bosley’s favorite Italian restaurant. So, it had been twenty-two years since any of them had actually been at the old office—the summer of 1981 when Charlie had officially closed Townsend Investigations.

After a while they started driving through familiar neighborhoods that Kelly remembered. They even drove past her old house that she’d lived in while working for Charlie. She’d lived there till she and Alan got married and then sold it. The current owner or owners had kept it up pretty good. They entered more of a business area and then Kelly saw it. Her heart gave a little jump and she took in a quick breath as the old familiar two story brick office building that had housed Charles Townsend Investigations for five years, came into view.

“You alright, lady?” the cab driver asked when he’d heard her give a slight gasp. He pulled up in front of the office.

“Yes I’m fine, just having a trip down memory lane. How much do I owe you?” Kelly asked with a smile. After the cab pulled away, she stood there staring. It didn’t look a whole lot different, except minus the brown and white sign beside the front door stating Townsend Private Investigations. It felt like she was stepping over twenty years back in time—when big hair, disco, and bell bottoms were the big ‘craze’! Kelly laughed when she thought this. Here she was standing with long, shoulder length hair and bell bottom jeans on now. Funny how styles repeat themselves. Give something twenty years and suddenly it’s cool again!

The building had been kept up very well! Of course Charlie still owned it and used it as a guest house for friends visiting the city and needing a place to stay. For some reason, she just couldn’t go in yet. She needed to just look for a little bit….and remember.

CHAPTER 11: SABRINA DUNCAN-“ANGEL FLIGHT TO

CHAPTER 11: SABRINA DUNCAN-“ANGEL FLIGHT TO
THE PAST….AND PRESENT!”

When Charlie called, Sabrina was waiting and answered after only one ring. Andy was sleeping around the corner, in his suite, and she didn’t want to wake him. She listened to what Charlie wanted her to do. He’d already booked her on a flight straight from Sky Harbor to LAX. She was to go to the old office immediately. After getting her stuff together, Sabrina wrote Andy a long note explaining that, even though she knew he’d be mad at her for going on her own, this was something she had to do. Plus, she didn’t want him in danger either. She promised to keep in touch on a regular basis.

Sabrina snuck out of her suite and checked her slide card in at the lobby desk. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed, in the mirrored wall behind the desk, that a strange blonde woman seemed to be watching her. Sabrina’s pulse quickened. She then walked out the front entrance and the door man motioned her a cab. The woman slowly followed and Sabrina saw her get a cab right after her. That cab seemed to follow her cab’s every move. Feelings that Sabrina hadn’t felt for a long time were surging throughout her! As Sherlock Holmes always said, could the game possibly be afoot? She just hoped the game could be stopped before anymore Diane-type situations would happen. Sabrina knew that was probably just wishful thinking. Whoever it was that had started the ‘game,’ seemed to just be getting warmed up.

The woman followed Sabrina into Sky Harbor Airport but then seemed to disappear. Trying to not be obvious, Sabrina looked for the strange follower for awhile but she seemed to be gone. Sabrina knew she was still around. Her old detective-state-of-mind was coming back, and quicker than she would have thought. Even though she worked with suspicion every day with insurance claims, it was usually with a lot of paper work rather than people. The last time she’d played cat-and-mouse with someone was when she still worked for Charlie. Sabrina could sense someone watching her. On her flight to L.A. she studied the other people on the plane, but none of them resembled the woman that had followed her earlier. Of course the woman had had the old stereotypical floppy hat and big sunglasses on. So, Sabrina wasn’t exactly sure what her face looked like. The rest of the flight and arrival into LAX were uneventful.

Once through the security checks and baggage claim, Sabrina got a cab. She knew that Charlie wanted them all to go straight to the office but there were a couple other places that she wanted to see first. Sabrina had the cabbie take her by the house that Bill, her, and Andy had lived in before moving to Phoenix. It looked extremely different. The present owners had painted it a different color, added on, and had fenced in the back yard. She looked from the street for a few moments and then decided that it was time to move on. She then had the cab driver take her by the old apartment she’d lived in while working for Charlie and before she’d remarried Bill. The complex had not changed hardly at all, except for a few landscaping changes.

Sabrina laughed to herself as she remembered the time, in ’76, when she and Jill had blown her apartment up. It actually had been a bomb that an assassin had planted in the lid of a water jug. Jill had been over that afternoon and discovered that the top of the jug had been tampered with. They looked it over and discovered an explosive rigged under the top cap. They’d purposely allowed the bomb to explode to make the hit-man think he’d succeeded. They even faked her funeral. Boy, had the apartment manager been furious when he’d found out that the bomb had been purposely let off! He’d made Sabrina pay for the damages and the repair of her apartment. However, he’d also been very glad she had been alright and helped her move back in when the repairs were completed. Charlie had actually paid for the repairs because the incident had occurred while on-the-job.

Sabrina was so into her memories that she didn’t notice the Crown Victoria less than half a block away. Inside was a woman with the big tourist looking hat and sunglasses. She watched Sabrina with hatred and was wishing she could kill Duncan right now! But Master said only when the time was right. As for now, she was only supposed to scare her. After a few more minutes, Sabrina decided it was time to go to the office and got back into the cab.

The cab took her to the office building and she had it drop her off across the street from it. Sabrina looked for a few moments. It had hardly changed at all in the twenty-four years since she’d last been there! Suddenly, she noticed a woman standing in front of the building, staring at it too. Her heart jumped as she realized it was Kelly! Sabrina ran across the street and slowly walked up to her. Kelly didn’t seem to notice her right away.

“I was wondering, Miss, do you know who lives here?” Sabrina teased from behind her. Kelly whirled around. Immediately her face exploded into a smile.

“Brie! Oh my gosh, Brie!” Kelly exclaimed as both of them fiercely hugged! Sabrina realized that Kelly had tears streaming down her face.
“You okay, kiddo?” she asked her. Kelly smiled again and nodded her head.

“Yeah, I think so. It’s just so good to see you! I haven’t seen you since….,” Kelly’s voice paused.

“Since Bos’ funeral, six years,” Sabrina finished. “We should’ve gotten together many times. It just seemed that Bosley’s death kind of….distanced everyone or something. One of our team and family died and it just made it difficult to see everyone. It brought back so many memories I think. I’m sorry, Kelly. You look beautiful though! My gosh, girl, don’t you ever age?” she teased. Kelly smiled and laughed.

“Stop, please! I probably look like the wreck-of-the-hespers or something! Especially with what’s happened in the last few days.” Kelly’s last remark reminded both of them the reason they were here.

“Are you okay, Kel? Charlie briefly told me what happened. I’m so sorry!”

“Yeah, I’m alright. I just can’t believe that all this is happening! It’s almost like we never left Townsend Investigations. What about you, Brie? I heard about the rose things and the girl that got hit by the van.”

“I’m dealing with it….or trying to. Diane is still in the hospital but the doctors think she’ll pull through. Andy is also about to come out of his skin! I don’t think he knew the kind of cases we used to solve. He’s used to insurance fraud, which sometimes can be dangerous. Especially if we have to go out and role play, so-to-speak, to find out information. But, usually we don’t run into the old guns-n-knives bit. He’s also probably furious with me right about now. I left him sleeping at our hotel. He was so insistent on staying with me to protect me. He’s really kind of bossy sometimes,” said Sabrina laughing.

“Sounds like someone else I know!” teased Kelly, laughing too. They talked a few more minutes and then decided to go in. The actual office had been on the second floor. The first floor rooms had originally been rented out by Charlie to a couple other businesses. However, now the front hallway was decorated like the front entrance to a house. The rooms, that had housed the other businesses, now had doors that looked like bedroom doors. However, an elevator and stairway were still at the end of the hallway. Kelly and Sabrina took the elevator to the second floor, as they had many years before.

Once again the hallway was decorated like the hallway of a house and one of the rooms off the hallway was open. Kelly looked in and saw it was a bedroom, very lavishly decorated. Then they opened the double doors that went into their old office. Both of them gasped as they stared in with memory and wonder. It had totally been redecorated years ago. It now had up-to-date furniture, carpet, and a big screen TV complete with VCR and DVD player. However, the fireplace, mini-bar, and antique desk that Bosley usually had sat at, were all still there. On the desk was, what looked like, a brand new computer system with internet access. The office seemed totally different, yet in several ways was very much the same. Both of them began talking at the same time and looking at everything. They were talking so much that they didn’t hear the elevator open again at the end of the hallway and some people get off. The people slowly walked towards the office doors.
