'DuckTales' always was a great cartoon, but even greater when given that the source material was the classic Carl Barks duck comics from the 50s and 60s. I love comparing my DT episodes with the original comic stories such as "Microducks from Space," "Tralla-La," and the essential "Back to the Klondike." When I watch DT, and I know that the story was based on a Barks classic I will mentally substitute Launchpad for Donald as in many of the original stories.
Barks's Donald was a much different character than in the Disney shorts adding more depth to the character, you could understand what he was saying and there was more to him than his temper. I'm just saying that Barks added to the Disney characters without diminising any of the qualities that made them popular in the first place. Of course this was all in season one only, before they shifted the focus away from Scrooge and more onto new characters such as Gizmo Duck and Bubba. |
