"do bears beareth, doth bees beeeth"?
this mid-'80's version of "the taming of the shrew" is nothing but an example of some of the greatest comedic writing television has ever seen. the beginning where the main intro started as a boy actually watching "moonlighting" and arguing with his mom when she turns it off. the parody of things today in comparrison to then. a great story, but the dialogue and the acting out the dialogue is incredible. the stunt men took some great falls and bounces at the beginning when "katarina" sent them flying. one of my favourite parts is the BMW logo on the side on the horse. loved seeing curtis armstrong get a huge part of an episode. this one shows the great teamwork between he and bruce. one of the best. rating: 9 |

This episode was unbelievable. Just so clever. If I were going to show an episode to somebody who had never seen ML and wanted to really show them the amazing creativity of the writers, this would be the one. Great stuff.

Ok. Everyone knows this episode, even persons who are not Moonlighting aficiandos. And this episode has been discussed, analyzed, scrutinized, etc by many.
But just for a lark, let's throw out a topic that I have seldom seen mentioned on this....... the title. Atomic Shakespeare... Now here is my theory. Atomic by definition means something small, infinitesimal. So used in this title, it means this is a little bit of Shakespeare, a flavoring. OR since the atom is the smallest unit of matter...it is not able to be broken down further and the Greek derivitive of the word (atomos) means "indivisible or that which cannot be split up." So maybe that refers to the Moonlighting Duo as a double meaning. OR atomic is also associated with nuclear weapons...explosive--sound like some folks we know? |

Oooh...nice analyzing, Cindy.
I only looked at it based on the definition, but all three of those make sense.

It wouldn't have mattered to me what the episode was called. I think it was one of the greatest shows EVER.
It makes me laugh out loud throughout the episode. I love it when they have to tie Katerina to the altar in order to get her married to Petruchio. I love Cybill's use of her eyes in that scene. The fight scene in Petruchio's house was classic. The scene when they meet in Katerina's house (UNHAND ME....). was simply fantastic. I LOVE ATOMIC SHAKESPEARE! Me havest a headache. Unhand me. I will but I don't think they'll come off. Clean the bugs out of her teeth. You're the only man I know that suffereth from pianist envy. Tis the moon.......the sun - the moon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could go on forever. |

i honestly feel like i've died and gone to heaven and it's better than i thought it would be.
the episode is done in iambic pentameter. and they even managed to throw in a little bit of a honeymooners take off and a bruce willis song that didn't distract. katharina good husband, are we married merrily? petruchio yea verily, we are married merrily, though at first warily and unfortunately quite sterily. i actually made a nucance of myself and called the guy who loaned this tape to me and asked if i could keep it - i can. katharina why me? what move thee to woo me? petruchio thy life, thy spirit... more to the point, i saw me in thee katharina husband, for all thy boorishness and bluster, thou art a good man. petruchio and for all thy shrillness and shrewishness, thou art quite a remarkable woman. sigh. |
