Default Will 2005 be a watershed year for rock?

after my last post, it dawned on me that it's always about a 13-14 year interval whenever the rock industry gets shaken up, first in 1964, we had The Beatles, Rolling Stones and The Who explode onto the scene, then in 1977, we had punk rock, as well as albums like Rumours that sold numbers that were unseen before that time, and then in 1991, we had the grunge invasion, as well as heavy metal masterpieces such as Metallca's "Metallica", Ozzy's "No More Tears" and GNR's two Use Your Illusion albums.

With that timing, does this mean that this is going to happen again in the next year or so? I mean, before Nirvana, as well as the albums I mentioned, hit in the last part of 1991, the music industry was in a real rut, dominated by faceless formula crap, and I believe the industry is in the same predicament now.

I usually agree with you Buffy, but I'll have to disagree with you here. I can't see anything exciting happining in music? IMO music today is at the lowest point that it has ever been.

re-read it, that is what I said. When all the great rock came out in late 91, it was after a really bad era dominated by Vanilla Ice, Nelson and MC Hammer's.... I was saying that considering all the crap that's dominating right now as well as it's about that time, that in the next year or so, the next big revolution should take place.

Interesting deal with the 13-14 year intervals. Good observation, BuffySlayer79. It certainly has been that way in the past 4 decades. I've been hopeful that music can lift itself up from it's current horrid state. Some bands have seemed to emerge lately that I think are good rock bands, so maybe it's coming around...

As bad as some of the music was during the 89-91 period, I still do not think that it is as bad as what is going on in music now. Which is nothing. IMO

well, that is true.... which means the next revolution will be even better than the 91 one.

Give me Nelson, Wilson Phillips and Paula Abdul over Twista (isn't that the name of a wrap they sell at KFC?), Usher (I like his older stuff, but his new music is B-L-A-N-D) and Kanye West (can you appear on more songs man?)

What about Velvet Revolver? Has anyone heard their new CD, the one song sounds okay.

I agree, the music business needs some shaking up.

but the crap out right now IS NOT "good r&b". MTV-2 and radio doesn't touch stuff like Me'Shell Ndege'Ocello, Res, Angie Stone and Musiq. Usher has a few good songs, but I hate his personality, and I'd still take good rock over him anyday. And Kanye better than rock? haha!!! If you said "over current rock" it'd be more sensible.

This question was for the ROCK FANS in here, when a question poised for only hip hop fans is in there, you don't see people like me, Dukey, AKA and Ablairica post in that thread talking about how badly we think rap sucks. The music scene has gotten from bad to worse to even worse to the point where most people have started avoiding everything from the last 5 years, and I can't believe someone would say "I hope not". It's time for the music industry to get shaken up, enough with the crap that is popular right now!!!

YES!!!!! WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THE NEXT RIDE THE PUPPETS ALBUM FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS!!!! I think it would have been great if they re-recorded "...Justice" with their patented Metallicrunch as they did with the previous two albums before it.

yea i meant in general...and i did mean over current rock lol, and yes i agree about the good r&b too....because i do enjoy the r&b artists you listed too (with the edition of Maxwell, and i won't even begin to mention motown artists)... but my whole point was that there has to be a "revolution" in rock soon because it can't get any worse than it is now. I think you really need to chill out though..I was just postin my opinion and you have to accept the fact that not everyone agrees w/ you!
