Red face Sam's Women

I just saw my first season 1 episode last night. It was really weird, you could tell the actors hadn't really settled into their characters yet, and John Ratzenburger was really skinny and dorkier looking, nothing like the Cliff I've grown to love. And in The Tortelli Tort Carla hugs Diane, something I thought I'd never see. Sam needs to shave too. I can see why everyone loves Diane though.

"The Tortelli Tort" has one of my favorite scenes in it: the one where Carla bangs Ed's head against the bar.

I'd say the characters definitely evolved over the years - that may explain the change you see. For example, I get the impression that Carla's hatred for Diane and Cliff grew in intensity after that first season. Sam became more of a cad later on. And, of course, we all got to know Cliff better after he became a regular. But I'd say most of the actors (especially Shelley) nailed their characters that first season.

I completely agree. It was just strange to see the actors so young looking and their characters not exactly the way you see them in later seasons. Of course those things all develop in time when the writers get more ideas. I fell in love with Coach, I think I like him more than Woody now, such a sweet character. I laughed really hard when Carla jumped on his back, and I loved it at the end when Sam was talking about the color of Diane's eyes. An intelligent woman may see right through that, but even my knees were quivering. I'll always love Frasier though.

No not yet. All of the stores around here don't have it , but I do have the 1st season of Frasier . I guess I will just have to rely on Nick at Night for the first few seasons until I find a copy. I believe they are starting at the beginning again for the summer block thing. What are your favorite episodes?

I still need to get Frasier on DVD. Let's see...my favorite episodes...I've never listed them out. I'll keep it down to my two favorites from each season:

Season 1: "The Tortelli Tort" and "Sam at Eleven"
Season 2: "Homicidal Ham" and "Personal Business"
Season 3: "Rebound Part II" and "Diane's Allergy"
Season 4: "I'll Gladly Pay You Tuesday" and "From Beer to Eternity"
Season 5: "Abnormal Psychology" and "Thanksgiving Orphans"
Season 6: "Christmas Cheers" and "To All the Girls I've Loved Before"
Season 7: "Norm, Is That You?" and "Send in the Crane"
Season 8: "Barwars II: The Return of Tecumseh" and "Cry Hard"
Season 9: "Days of Wine and Neuroses" and "Rat Girl"
Season 10: "The Norm Who Came to Dinner" and "One Hugs, The Other Doesn't"
Season 11: "The Bar Manager, The Shrink, His Wife and Her Lover" and....I guess..."One for the Road Part II"

I left out a whole lot of episodes that I also consider my favorites haha.

Note: "The Norm Who Came to Dinner" and "One Hugs, The Other Doesn't" were the first two episodes I remember watching when I was a kid!

I hope you manage to get the Cheers DVDs soon!

Lol, same here. That was quite a tantalizing scene. Sam Malone or Ted Danson for that matter, could really pour on the charm.

That scene kills both me and my husband. He's an obsessed Red Sox fan. I'm his long-suffering wife, lol. That entire first scene, from the moment Ed walks through the door and ending in Carla's meltdown is just hilarious. It's especially fun if you live in Boston or New York and have lived with the Yankee/Sox rivalry all of your life.

The opener, with Carla standing up on the bar and declaring that she'll never root for the Sox again, and the bar reciting it with her word for word, is just great. If I had a dollar for every time my husband said he was DONE with the Sox, I'd have a lot of dollars.

I have Frasier 1-3 on DvD, but only have Cheers 2 & 3 on Dvd! I never saw SAM'S WOMEN until the other night, believe it or not. I need season one, badly! - though season 4 & 5 are much anticipated!

I don't have a lifetime to list all my faves....hee hee!

Sam's Women was one of the best episodes of the first season.

I love when Norm runs up to the window to see if she's coming back and then says something along the lines of "ohh no, that's a bus"
