Cool Something pretty special for the 4th

I wanted to tell you all something that happened to me that reminded me so much of Freddie.

I have these friends, the father was born in Puerto Rico and the mother's family is from there, only she was born in NYC. Anyway, their whole families live in CT right now and sometimes come down to visit the family I am friends with. Their son and I play in the folk choir at our church and I have had the sisters in my school. Mom works at my school too.

Well I had a 4th of July party over my house yesterday and invited them and told them if any of the relations were visiting, to bring them along as well. The dad's family was in town, his parents and three brothers. They all came.

It was a day of good eating and lots of fun. The brothers and dad are all musical. The son who plays in the folkgroup had his guitar along with him and we own three guitars here. Hubby brought them out and the family started playing and singing Spanish songs. It was wonderful!

I remember reading somewhere, maybe in her book, that Maria would have her family visit and they would all sit around and make music together. Freddie apparently got his musical abilities from them. When I was sitting on my new porch swing with my friend listening to her husband, son and inlaws playing, I felt I was in Puerto Rico. We shot off fireworks when it got dark. What a special day it was for me. They are all the sweetest people.

Well I hope everyone else has a memorable 4th!

That is so neat! Glad you had a good 4th. We did!

Davy Jones did a concert at Colonial Downs on July 4th & we went being a big Monkees fan. It was only $2 a person to go & get to see horse races too. Had a nice time. It was raing cats & dogs when we got there & we had to wait in the car awhile. Fortunately it let up later. Some Monkee fans we know, Charlie & his friend Sandra & her hubby Tom & Charlies other friends David & this other friend of his (I forget his name) & another Monkee fan we all know George came. So we got there & ran into everyone & went to & got chairs & put them up on front row & hung out with everyone we went to watch the opening act & Davy. Missed the horse races due to hanging out with everyone. Davy put on a great show. He did some Monkees songs & some of his own songs & a song from OLIVER called CONSIDER YOURSELF. When he sang LOOK OUT HERE COMES TOMORROW & sang the part about Sandra, Sandra really seemed to love that. They had fireworks at the end of the show. When the show ended we got to watch Davy leave & we got to say HI to him & tell him we liked the show & he thanked us for coming to the show. We got to shake his hand. I won't shake my hand for a week lol!

We all wanted to meet him after the show. There were all sorts of rumours as to where he'd be meeting at. One rumour was he's meet at the table where the stuff on him was sold & another was he'd met at a table inside, & another one was he was on a floor upstairs & he'd meet there. We were all waiting downstairs to see Davy & he never came so Mike said he bet upstairs was where Davy was meeting. So he said lets go & he & I & David went. Everyone else in the gang all thought Mike was joking. We go up & sure enough out comes Davy to meet people. So I ran downstairs to tell everyone in the gang plus 2 other Monkee fans who wanted to meet Davy that he's upstairs meeting people. it was more like fast walking at my age LOL! So all of us int he gang start running up the step to meet Davy including going up an escalator. Charlie, George & a coupla other folks & I all were trying to literally walk up the moving escalator LOL! We get up there & find out Davy had left cuz they wouldn't let him stay there long the security cops but Mike got to meet him & get his autograph & tell him about me. Davy was sorry he missed me. So we all go downstairs trying to figure out where to wait to watch Davy leave out the front door & we lost everyone but George. So Mike, George & I are running around trying to find Charlie & the rest of the gang & finally someone said they had left cuz they couldn't find us or Davy. So went back up to the floor Davy was on hoping he'd come back out & we could meet him. Us & George are hanging out & some security cop comes out & tells us we gotta leave, we aren't allowed there & Davy was in a private suite up there & we cold be up there. We explained we'd lost Charlie & them & were trying to find them& we weren't going to go to the suite they had Davy in cuz we weren't gonna bother him there, we got better sense than that LOL! But to not avail. The security cop made us leave so we left & went to some chairs on that floor aways from the stairs & sat in the chairs & talked & visited. Later the security cop came out & said we had to leave or he'd call a state trooper to come & make us leave. trying to be a big bully. We explained we were just visiting & had lost Charlie & them & hoped to be able to meet Davy & the cop was all official etc Didn't care. Mike explain this is a free country & folks can roam where they want to. I had heard the 3rd floor was for rich folks anyway. So I said I may not be rich but I'm proud, white & free & should be able to go where I please launching into a diatribe about freedom LOL! The cop said no one was up there. I said I'd seen folks up there earlier & there were tv sets up there. He explained why the tv sets were there. Still I know I saw folks up there earlier. He said he wasn't trying to be a hardliner but we had to leave. Someone had lied & told us Davy had left which we knew was a lie to get rid of us. So we went onto the stairs. Can't make us leave there LOL! Staying on the stairs paid off cuz later Davy comes out to leave. So we got to meet him! He let me take his pic & a pic of him with Mike & we talked to him a few minutes. He came up to me & hugged me ( I was in opinch me I'm dreaming mode) & acted like he remembered Mike & I from meeting us after his show there last yr. I told him I was so glad to see him cuz I had missed him earlier. He said he was sorry he'd missed me earlier. He was nice. He said he was sorry he was gonna have to leave so soon but they ere making him leave so soon. So he got on the elevator which we couldn't get on cuz it was full & the cop acted like he didn't want us on it anyway so we had to get on the other elevator. We all went outside & hung out with George awhile & some other folks we met & then we all had to leave. It was a nice time...

I was using a photo editing program called IrFan to re-size some pics on my compact flash disk, saving them at the smaller siz on my compact flash disk. I deleted one pic that didn't turn out. Now none of my pics show up at all & I wonder if they got accidentally deleted. If they got deleted I am gonna freak out big time
