Over the last year, I was mentioned that GSN dumped the original "Hollywood Squares" with Peter Marshall off the lineup. I missed the original version with Paul Lynde in the center square. The show replaced with the Tom Bergeron version of the new "Squares" with Whoopi Goldberg on the center square. The Bergeron version as still be seen on GSN on weekends. I still love the original "Squares" with the old prize plugs and all the gimmicks.
I like to see it again someday. You should go on this website www.classicsquares.com and this is the site for the original "Hollywood Squares" that GSN already dumped its lineup replacing with Bergeron.

According to Peter Marshall's book (pub 2002), most people (according to GSN) didn't like the classic/original/Marshall version(s) and there are no plans to broadcast them or put out on DVD. I would LOVE to have them on DVD.

I missed the original "Squares" on GSN. The reruns of the original has been on GSN since 2002 and lasted for one year.

I see this answered at the GSN Forums there and some have said the younger audience didn't care for the original Marshall 'Squares' since the show had the giants of old Hollywood (i.e. Milton Berle, Charley Weaver, Jack Benny, Jan Murray) and so much more. Most of today's audiences weren't even born when the giants of television, radio, film and entertainment made their marks on history so that was why the show had so many greats on. Today, people like Britney Spears, Whoopi Goldberg and several no-talent celebrities is what the audiences want to see and that's why it's a good fit to get the viewers GSN is targeting. The Tom Bergeron version is much classless today than the NBC original was. It had for the most part Jewish and some ethnic humor/jokes. |

I know that the original "Hollywood Squares" with Peter Marshall is now under exhibit at the Museum of Radio & Televison. Sometimes they show the NBC version except the ones that GSN originally aired before was the non-NBC nighttime version.

I just think GSN didn't have very many episodes of the original SQUARES. They only seemed to have the nighttime version, and I saw episodes repeating quite frequently (within weeks). The turnover was WAYYYY too quick. MOST of the daytime shows are gone (a couple of rough copies turn up in trading circles from 1966/1967).
