Default Biggest Pet Peeve

What's yours? I have so many it's really hard for me to pick just one. (LONG complaining post ahead...consider yourself warned.)

I want to strangle people who type "your" when they mean "you're." Such as, "Your really pretty!" or, "You're dog is really cute!" Ugh. Or when they don't use any punctuation at all, especially when they type "we're." It looks like "were", which doesn't make any sense. I'm not talking about typos, because I make too many of them to count, but some people seem to think it's correct.

I hate when people go 15 m.p.h. under the speed limit. No one actually wants to get anywhere, really. And I don't think that people who are too old to see the road should drive.

I hate it when you put off washing your extremely dirty car for 5 months, and when you FINALLY get it washed on a really sunny day, it pours. And, not when you're safely in your garage. Nope....it'd be when you're about 15 minutes away, and then it stops when you get inside.

I hate annoying laughs....the blonde laugh, for example. It makes you sound dumb, even if you're the smartest person in the world.

I'm having a really bad day, so I felt the need to vent, and get others' opinions at the same time. I'm sure there are 5 million other threads just like this, but oh well.

Sadly, very few people understand the difference between "your" and "you're."

My biggest pet peeve is cleaning up after other people. I HATE cleaning up other slob's dirty messes. I always picked up the yearbook room last year from slobs and it pissed me off everyday. People would leave lunch trays with food on them even in the room. It was ridiculous. At work, I hate how stupid kids go around taking books off the shelves and then just sitting them wherever. I have to go back and put them in the right place and it pisses me off when I have a lot of other books to shelve. I HATE BEING A MAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel better.

When I was in elementary school I had one really big pet peeve. That would be when I would be asked by a teacher to rewrite something because she couldn't read it. I had a morning resource teacher in 5th grade who did this a few times. It really annoyed me. After several times over a few weeks or months, the last straw came when she asked to to rewrite a sentence not once, not twice, but THREE times. I threw a tirade because I was frustrated. I got sent to the principal's office but I explained my case. I think if she was reading it, she wasn't giving a lot of effort. I'm sure of this because two of the other resource teachers I had in the morning never had a problem with my handwriting. After that incident, she never asked me to rewrite something again.

One pet peeve of mine is when people correct other people's grammar on a public message board. Whenever someone does it I always say that this isn't school. Many people who come to these boards do so to get away from the hassles of school and work. If you can read and understand what the person is writing with some effort, then there isn't any reason. Also you should keep in mind that the person could be 1) Mentally challenged or disabled, 2) Someone that isn't an American, 3) Doesn't have English as their primary language or doesn't speak too much English, or 4) The person doesn't choose to have perfect typing for reasons which are of no concern to everyone but the individual.

I hate when people ask me for money. I mean, I know I'm rich, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna share it!

Well, I'm a big grammar person, so it really bugs me when people mispronounce simple words. For example...
  • especially (pronounced "expecially")
  • escape (pronounced "excape")
  • ask (pronounced "ax")
  • etcetera (pronounced "exetera")

Also, it drives me crazy when people use words that don't exist, like "irregardless." NOT A WORD! It's regardless. Is that so dang difficult?

Okay, I'm good.

When people put you down and ignore you because of how you look rather than getting to know you first. Makes me sick. Everyone who made my life hell in school will get theirs it's called karma.

Okay, I'm good.

EXpecially?? I've never heard it pronounced like that before at all! That's weird, I'll have to look at the dictionary for that one. The only people I have ever heard pronounce "Ask" "ax" are black people, but I guess that's just the way they say thing.

Now, my pet peeves are:

When people pronounce the word "Exit" like EGG-ZIT. I always say EX-IT, but I guess accordign to the dictionary it can be both!

People who smoke! Bothers me so much.

People who don't wear their seatbelts.

Finally, one that really bothers me. I work in a deli where we have a thing to pull numbers for your turn. Well, it bothers me a lot when a customer comes up to the deli counter there is abosolutely NO other customers by the deli and the person STILL takes a number even though I'm standing RIGHT in front of them and I can obviously help them! Sometimes I have to just quickly stop them and say "Please don't take a number, I can help you!" Cuz basically that's just wasting numbers, IMO. It's just so obvious that they don't need to take a number when no one else is around and I'm standing right there to help them!

My pet peeves are people who tailgate when they're driving.

People at work who constantly ask for smoke breaks, when the ones who don't smoke don't get a break like that

When driving people who wait till the last freaking minute to put on a turn signal, or suddenly break then decide to turn(with no turn signal)

This is going to sound weird, but I absolutely hate it when people don't store their media (CDs/DVDs) properly. I know a lot of people who, when done listening to a CD or watching a DVD, will just take it out of the player and just set it on its back or something like that, instead of putting it back in its proper jewel case.

This is one of the reasons why I hardly loan my stuff to friends.
