Red face 40 Greatest Celebrity Feuds

I was just about to post asking about TV specials that have featured ML...ya know, like I Love the 80s, or any of the countdowns on E! or VH1. I'm still asking, but now I have an example.

I just turned on the tube, and a thing called the "40 Greatest Celebrity Feuds" was on. Guess who made the list.

I've heard that the media has made Cyb and Bruce's fighting seem more heated than it actually was, but here's what was said anyway, just in case you're curious:

"Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd had a sexy on-screen rapport that made millions tune in to their hit 80s TV show, Moonlighting. Too bad the chemistry didn't make it past cut.

Willis, a showbiz newcomer, and model-turned-actress Shepherd butted heads constantly. As Bruce's trademark smile made him a star, he got more power, and Cybill felt his input was changing her character...into a bitch.

'Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd are great actors, and they often sparred in their characters, but I think a lot of the animosity that they had off the set was used to their advantage on the show.' - Michael Lewittes (Celebrity Journalist)

Production was a mess, as the two stars bickered over everything from top-billing and storylines to Cybill's pregnancy and Willis' drinking. New episodes were often delayed by their squabbles.

To avoid an all-out war, a punching bag was brought in so the co-stars could put the smack-down on the bag instead of each other.

'We have a very volatile relationship, and there is a hate/love element to it, but there are times, I find, that when we have the biggest fights are when we have to fight in the scene.' - Cyb

Eventually, the two stars beat down each other and their audience, as Moonlighting was cancelled in 1989.

After a short detour as a rock singer, Willis went on to become one of Hollywood's top leading men. As for Cybill, her self-titled sitcom was a success, but it died like Moonlighting amid rumors of cast conflicts, with the 'B word' flying.

'If it were only on Moonlighting that Cybill Shepherd didn't get along with cast-mates and crew members, you would say, 'All right, this wasn't a perfect marriage.' But it makes you wonder, 'Maybe it is Cybill Shepherd.' - Michael Lewittes

Today, Willis and Shepherd are still at odds and unlikely to work together any time soon."

Has ML been featured on any other countdowns like this? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Default DIFFERENT!!

This is the story the way the media likes it to be.
Nobody says the show was perfect, but you know actually it was perfect in being different.
They did things on TV nobody ever dared to do! That's what makes is so terrific! (talking to your audience, wearing sneakers under a skirt....) DIFFERENT!

I don't believe that Cybill is a difficult person, I just thinks that she speaks her mind anytime to anyone.
And ofcourse you CAN'T do that in Hollywood, so if you do, you get cancelled, easy as that!
Anyway I just wanted to say: CYB, DON'T EVER CHANGE!!
MOONLIGHTING is the best show that ever happened to me. I'm a lot older now, but it still gets to me.
And I'm still an addict!

Bruce and Cybill!

Two words: WELL SAID!

I get so mad when they make ML's set out to be a battlefield. This show certainly wouldn't have lasted as long as it did if everything was as horrible as everyone says it was.

I recall watching "Entertainment Tonight" or something back when ML was originally airing and the reporter was going to the ML studio to see if the rumors about Cybill Shepherd being hard to work with were true and in the lobby the was this huge picture of Bruce & Cybill that covered the entire wall and on top of Cybill's head somebody had drawn devil horns. The reporter said something like "as to the rumors about the ML cast & crew disliking Cybill Shepherd, one needs not look any further than the lobby," and it showed the picture on the wall.
I never wanted to believe Cybill was hard to work with, but after seeing that, I was a believer. Also Bruce Willis has never come to her defense when people were reporting all these stories about Cybill. If it weren't true, I'd like to think that Bruce would have stood up for his co-star and refuted all the rumors. But like everyone else here, I don't care if Cybill is difficult to work with, Moonlighting is one of the best shows ever made and Cybill & Bruce had the best on-screen chemistry of any couple on TV before or after.

Exactly. Even if Cyb was tough to work with, as long as I don't have to work with her, I don't care if she is the devil. Moonlighting was fantastic, and that's really all that matters.

Sad Its a tough business!

As she said in the interview on the " The Last goodbye" site:
It's a tough business!

I think that it really is! And if you're a sensitive person (which I really believe she is) than you can crack you know...
I think it's an effect of being in the spotlights all your life and then realizing you get older, no more serious joboffers.....
and then all of a sudden there is a show like Moonlighting and you go back on that rollercoaster and do it all over again.
Maybe she couldn't cope with that.
Plus being a mother, divorce and get pregnant again with twins from another Bruce, still having to go to work and while feeling sick you have to keep on smiling and working for 16 hours.
I don't know, I don't think it's strange that you get psychological problems.
Anyway ....... enough of Cyb's psychological history.

Is she a great actress or what?? I mean we didn't notice anything about her in the show, now did we??

We certainly didn't. Whatever she was going through, she definitely kept it from seeping into her character. Although, sometimes the seeping provided an extra boost to a fight scene...but that's another story.

Default seeping

Right! So she used it positively!

Anyway I'm a woman but I can honestly say that this is a woman that I adore.
It's a beautiful human being and so is Bruce.
They are just beautiful people inside and outside!

A big hug for both of them!

Well, Taz, I must confess that I like Bruce a tad bit more than Cyb ( ), but they're both great.

Like Cyb said in her interview, "We have a very volatile relationship, and there is a hate/love element to it, but there are times, I find, that when we have the biggest fights are when we have to fight in the scene."

Right on, sista!
