Default What do u think intelligence is based on?

What grades they get?

or how much they actually learn in school?

i pretty much think the second one.

Based on what you learn. Good grades are only for school, not real life. Only what you've learned is the most useful tool to have.

Grades don't mean squat. That's just a measuring tool teachers use to separate their hard work from their easy work.

A student could be really intelligent, but is bored with the material or just doesn't understand it no matter what they're taught. Just because they got a D doesn't mean they're dumb.

I got straight A's in HS in math (a real miracle, BTW). But I got into calculus, and no matter how much I studied, I could NOT get it to make sense and I ended up with a D-.

Defintely Number 2. Once you get out of high school(or college) grades mean NOTHING, ZERO.

Intelligence is based on a person's ability to think and solve problems. Someone that can use information to figure things out is intelligent.

Grades piss me off. They mean absolutely nothing. This past quarter I got all C's. Does that mean I'm dumb? No. It ment I had a hard time in school and life these past few months. Everyone looks at my report card and says "C's!! What happened to you?! We thought you used to be smart?!" Yeah.. real self-confidence booster, right there.

I'm the same way. I got A's and B's all through Elementary School. When 6th Grade started, my grades started to go down. I actually failed math in 7th and 8th grade(7th grade, the teacher sucked, 8th grade it was the first class of the day so I frequently slept, LOL). I came close to failing other subjects in 8th grade too. I don't know what happened this year(this was 2001-2002, I got distracted big time by September 11th and the events following that, that's what really started my interest in politics and world events).

Grades annoy me, too. I usually get As and Bs on my tests, but this time i didnt. This is unfair:

I got an F on a test but I was apsent for two weeks. It was a make-up test, and the teacher never told me that I was taking it, so I coulnt study. And I didnt even finish the test yet! So:
I was apesnt for two weeks
I had no idea I was talking the test
I didnt even finish the test

Isnt this unfair?

Ah I hate it when people tell me that. My grades weren't bad this year, but they weren't amazing either. I hate it when teachers make it impossible to make an A.

But about the topic, I agree with this statement by I Am Him

My psychology professor explained intelligence in a really simple way that makes a lot of sense. Intelligence is one's ability to survive. That way, any animal that hasn't become extinct is just as intelligent as the next one. Chimps are no more intelligent than ants. The issue is how well you survive in your environment - you can interpret that literally or figuratively.

No animal survives. All animals die. The survival of a species has little or nothing to do with the intelligence of individual animals within that species.

Furthurmore, animals don't think. They have "pre-programmed" instincts. They are born knowing what to do. That's not intelligence.
