Does anyone like his music? I can take him or leave him, but he was a HUGE star in the 70s- in 1975 three of his albums: Back Home Again, An Evening with John Denver and another (I think it was his greatest hits) made the top 10 for that year which I don't believe any other act did in the 70s so he had quite a following.

When I was in elementary school we sang alot of his songs in choir class. Some of the songs were okay. He had his own summer variety show also. I think "Annie's Song" and "Sunshine on My Shoulders" are my favorites.

I love John Denver; I saw him in concert back in 1990, and I love his music, which reminds me of Colorado, a state that I love...

John Denver was a great guy. It's a shame his life was cut so short in 1997.

I love John Denver, too. In fact, I was listening to him the day he died.
Annie's Song, Grandma's Feather Bed, Thank God I'm a Country Boy, Mother Nature's Son(yes, I know it's really a Beatles song, but I like his version, too), The Music is You, Rocky Mountain High. I love'em all!! |

I love most of his songs. I wanted to go to one of his concerts in the summer of my 8th grade year back in 1994, but my parents didn't have the money, so my dad got me some John Denver cassette tapes. I still listen to them often. I cried when he passed away in 1997, but his legacy lives on. His music will never be forgetten.

You hear that sort of thing in a lot of places. That's not my milieu. Rock and roll is good-time music. I love rock. So did my parents. |

John Denver is the greatest of all time. Period.
Any REAL JD fans here? I mean the kind that know his GREAT work, like "It Amazes Me" and "The Wings That Fly Us Home"? (for two examples.) FYI: JD's Greatest Hits volume I is still one of the top-selling albums OF ALL FREAKIN' TIME!! Whoot! Here are the top five favorites of a true blue JD fan: 1. The Wings That Fly Us Home and Sweet Surrender (Original) (I couldn't decide) 2. Rhymes and Reasons (original) 3. Poems, Prayers and Promises (original) 4. It Amazes Me 5. Calypso Gads, how can anyone limit themselves to just five?? |

He was born Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr. on 12/31/1944, in Roswell NM. That remained his legal name his entire life (it's on his death certificate.) He was the oldest of two boys (brother is Ron.) His father was a Lt. Colonel in the USAF and a test pilot, who taught John how to fly his Leer jet. John did not shy away from joining the service, but rather he was 4F. When he was 18, a lawn mower accident sliced off two of his toes, thus making him ineligible for the draft. He and Annie adopted two children. His second wife, Cassandra, bore him a little girl, Jesse Belle. Anything else? Just ask.

Annie's Song Grandma's Feather Bed The Music is You Thank God I'm a Country Boy He had a LOT of hits on that album! I agree about "Mother Nature's Son" (An Evening with JD); altho it's a Beatles song, I like his rendition much better. The original is just slow and boring. Believe it or not, RMH isn't really one of my all-time faves of his, but it IS his "signature" piece. His real signature, IMO, is "Autograph". "This is my autograph, here in the songs that I sing! Here in my cry, in my laugh, here in the love that I bring, to be always with you, and you always with me." John hated signing autographs, he said they're so impersonal, so he wrote that song for all his fans. At an environmental function, soon before he passed on, he did a song "Healing Time" which IMO can be like Autograph II. His voice got better as he aged, and you can tell in that song. His voice has such volume and timbre, it's amazing. (Sorry about all the replies, but JD is my alltime favorite if y'all couldn't tell.) And like John would say, Peace, my friends. sg1niner |
