I swear, I have a new problem everyday...
Last week, I woke up one morning with intense pain in my left shoulder. I also woke up in a rather odd position. I thought I might have slept on it the wrong way, so I dismissed it. It continued over the weekend and into this week. Today, it REALLY started to kill. My whole shoulder hurt, the muscles AND the bone. It was stiff, and I could hardly raise my arm. I went to my doctor today and told him how I woke up last week. He said that the muscles were just stiff, and heat and Ibuprofen would help. I had taken some before I went to see him, and it didn't help. He wouldn't send me for an x-ray, because I didn't fall or anything. I refuse to believe my muscles are just 'stiff'. My shoulder hurts a hell of a lot more than a stiff muscle. I did some research and it's pointing in the direction of a torn rotator cuff. Sure, I'm kind of young for deterrioration, but anything can happen. My question is, have you, or anyone you know, ever had a shoulder injury, specifically tearing of the rotator cuff? How did it feel? Did you need surgery or physical therapy? Any help would be appreciated. I'm really in pain

Try these two procedures-
1. Rotate the arm to a complete 360-degree angle. 2. If there is unusual noises while rotating it, it could possible be jammed. If it is jammed, you might either have to have it cracked, like when you crack your fingers, or have the doctor take a second look. I've jammed it once, I remember an old football incident where another guy ran into my arm, and when I rotated it, I heard a pop, and MY GOD, I've never felt so good in my life. |

If it is, a stiff muscle, then may I suggest that you take either a real long hot shower, or soak yourself in epsom salts. I beleive all major drug stores have them, so you should be able to find one nearby.

I don't get it, you tryed soaking it, and you tried rotating it, but it still won't get rid of the pain. The last thing I can think of, and pardon me if you think it's rude, but how about a nice glass of wine? And only if your 21, of course.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know you were underage. Well, have you talked to your parents about it?

My teacher had that problem last year. He wasn't back to normal for about 2 months, and said he was in a lot of pain. I'm not sure if that's the same thing as you have or not. He's had trouble with his shoulder his whole life, he said, so I don't know that you'd be in as much pain if you did have to have the surgery. Plus, he's a heck of a lot older than us.
I wouldn't trust what the doctor says. If it's still bothering you, and you know something's wrong, I'd get a second opinion. My doctor missed a simple bladder infection last month, and it spread to a kidney infection, which is definitely not fun. I wish I'd have gotten a second opinion. |

You know, Marilyn, that same thing happened Lucille Ball. She went in to the doctor, because she didn't feel well. Well, I guess the doctor missed it. And later that month, she died of internal bleeding.

you might see why in a few of my other posts...Thanks for all the responses, guys.. but I think it's my rotator cuff. Of course I'm not self diagnosing- my mom is taking me to the same doctor my sister had when she broke her elbow. I just talked to a good friend of mine tonight who did the same thing 3 months ago, and we have the same exact symptoms. Physical therapy is a good chance she said... God. More therapy. |

I seriously think it would be easier to take a chain saw and hack my arm off. I'm in so much fricken pain, and when I go to get an MRI done, the damn MRI is 45 MINUTES. |

I had the same thing once, and it was bursitis in my shoulder. The doctor gave me a cortisone shot, and it never came back. This was about 12 years ago.
Good luck Karly, and keep us posted. Sorry about your pain.
