Default Mary-Kate Olsen Article

Ashley Olsen Says Twin 'Hanging in There'

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The ``health-related issue'' Mary-Kate Olsen is seeking treatment for is something she has struggled with for some time, her twin sister, Ashley, told People magazine. Both People and Us Weekly have reported that Mary-Kate has an eating disorder.

Mary-Kate's publicist, Michael Pagnotta, has said only that she entered a treatment facility recently ``to seek professional help for a health-related issue.''

``She's hanging in there,'' Ashley Olsen said of her sister, adding family members were very appreciative of the public support they have received since Mary-Kate's problem was disclosed.

``The support's been really amazing,'' Ashley Olsen said.

She added that her sister had been struggling with the problem for ``quite awhile'' before the family stepped in and got help for her.

``She is taking the time she needs for herself right now,'' Ashley Olsen told People. ``Right now is especially a good time right before school so she can get healthy.''

The twins, whose most recent movie is ``New York Minute,'' turned 18 earlier this month and plan to attend New York University in the fall.

Olsen, who recently canceled a trip to Australia to promote ``New York Minute'' to be with her sister, declined to describe their recent meetings.

``It's private,'' she said. ``I'm here for her whenever she needs me, and, you know, that's how it works.''

Stamos on Olsen's Anorexia, Split With Wife
Mon, Jun 28, 2004, 01:06 PM PT
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Actor John Stamos will weigh in on Mary-Kate Olsen's recent entry into a treatment program for an eating disorder in an "Access Hollywood" interview.
The 40-year-old actor discusses his "Full House" co-star's anorexia and the support of her twin sister, Ashley Olsen, with the NBC entertainment newsmagazine.

"I just wish her well and I know Ashley is there with her and I think she is going to be just fine," he says, adding, "If that is the worst thing that can happen to them, they are still ahead of the game."

The twin girls co-starred with Stamos in the ABC family sitcom that ran from the late '80s through the mid-'90s. The Olsens took turns playing Michelle Tanner, who was raised by her father (Bob Saget), his friend (Dave Coulier) and Uncle Jesse (Stamos).

Stamos will also clear the air about splitting with his wife of five years, actress Rebecca Romijn-Stamos.

"We're really good friends, and I adore her and she adores me...I think we just needed some time apart," he says. "It's so weird because...you are so crazy in love and all of a sudden weird things happen."

The split, which occurred in April, hasn't been easy on either of them.

"We talked yesterday and we were both crying on the phone. The publicity is just terrible, and it just undermines the importance of our ten-year relationship," he adds.

Stamos, 40 and Romijn-Stamos, 31, first met at a Victoria's Secret fashion show in 1994. They had their first date two months later at Disneyland and then married in September 1998. They had been living in Beverly Hills together.

The full interview will air on "Access Hollywood" on Monday night, June 28.

Olsen Twins' Empty House

by Josh Grossberg
Jun 28, 2004, 10:30 AM PT

They're rich, famous and...homeless?

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who are set to matriculate at New York University this fall, have lost out on a bid to lease a new $3.5 million condo in the Big Apple, the New York Post reports.

With the aid of their manager-father, David, the dynamic duo had hoped to take over a 3,500-square-foot three-bedroom spread at posh Morton Square in Greenwich Village for about $14,000 a month--a pittance considering the girls each came into $150 million of their empire's spoils earlier this month upon celebrating their 18th birthday.

But according to the Post, Amy Hunter, the owner of the residence, apparently got cold feet and reneged on the deal, believing the former Full House mates would have a tough time gaining approval from the condo's strict co-op board.

"They were supposed to move in this week and [the owner] basically told them that she thought they weren't going to get through the board," an unnamed source is quoted in the Post. "Maybe she confused them with the Hilton sisters."

Recent magazine reports of wild partying may have also played a factor.

Reps for Hunter and the Olsens could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

The scuttled arrangement means the Olsens now have to scramble to find a new crib before the start of their freshman year.

A publicist for J.D. Carlisle Development Corp., which oversees Morton Square, stated the company has offered the girls a 3-bedroom loft in excess of 2,500-feet in the interim while their space--a $3.5 million condo spread--goes through some "extensive intricate design work." But it's not known if they're going to take it yet.

"They haven't officially accepted," said rep Suzanne Billet. "But we're doing our best to accomodate them."

As if they don't already have enough to deal with. Ashley recently split with longtime beau Matt Kaplan; Mary-Kate's car was mangled in a fender-bender last month when her bodyguard plowed into her SUV; they jointly sued videogame giant Acclaim for supposedly botching a line of Olsen-themed games; and their first feature film, New York Minute, tanked in a Hollywood second, making less than $14 million since its release last month.

But their most pressing problem is Mary-Kate's battle with an eating disorder believed to be anorexia nervosa.

Speaking to People magazine, Ashley said Mary-Kate had been struggling with the eating disorder "for quite awhile" before her family stepped in and committed her to a clinic earlier this month.

Ashley--the eldest Olsen by two minutes--scrapped a trip Down Under for the Australian premiere of New York Minute to be with her sibling, who's reportedly holed up in Cirque Lodge, a mountainside rehab center in Sundance, Utah.

"She's hanging in there," Ashley said. "She is taking the time she needs for herself right now. Right now is especially a good time right before school so she can get healthy."
