What If Ronald Reagan Had Remained a Sportscaster?
It's tempting to think about what might have happened if something had gone one way instead of the other. What if Reagan had remained a sportscaster instead of becoming an actor, then going on to the governorship of California and the Presidency? Here's what I think weould have happened. He would have moved to Chicago and worked for WGN radio, than a local TV station, then in the sixties, he would have been hired by ABC, eventually doing a show with. . . Howard Cosell.
Think about it. "The Cosell-Reagan Report." Ronald Reagan as the affable good guy who's every sports fan's best friend, playing off Howard Cosell, the man you love to hate, who tells it like it is. That would have been an even better show than "Wide World of Sports!"  Oh yeah, and Bob Dole would have been elected President in 1980.

I don't really get out a lot. When I do go out, I couldn't be happier. I love being in a nice milieu. I'm as happy as a clam. Just as long as I'm not in some club playing hip-hop. You hear that sort of thing in a lot of places. That's not my milieu. Rock and roll is good-time music. I love rock. So did my parents. |
