Default "Carrie"

Oh my God has anyone ever seen this movie? The original 1976 version, I mean. Oh my God this movie is just EXCELLENT! I had heard about it all my life but it never seemed to be airing on any channels here until last week when I saw some of it on TNT. The part I caught, the scene where Coach Collins scolds all the girls in the gym for throwing the feminine tissues at Carrie and I loved that part alone. But then, I saw the whole movie when I timer recorded it from TNT Saturday morning, and omg it is the best! There are sooooo many memoriable moments in the movie too! Like at the beginning when the girls pelt Carrie with the tampons ect, and when Carrie's mother (Margaret) makes her recite quotes from her religious books! I just watched that scene over and over again and I just cannot help but LAUGH OUT LOUD!!! I don't know if they were trying to go for the horror-comedy aspect with the movie, but either way, it definatly works for me!

Margaret: "And God made Eve from the rib of Adam. And it was weak and loosed the Raven on the world. And the Raven was called sin." Say it. "The Raven was called sin."
Carrie: Why didn't you tell me, Mama (about mestruation)?
Margaret: Say it.
Carrie: No.
[Margaret slaps Carrie with the book]
Margaret: And the Raven was called sin.
Carrie: No, Mama!
[Margaret slaps her with the book again]
Carrie: And the Raven was called sin!
Margaret: "And the first sin was intercourse. The first sin was intercourse."
Carrie: I didn't sin, Mama!
Margaret: Say it!
[Margaret slaps Carrie with the book again]
Carrie: I didn't sin, Mama!!
Margaret: First sin was intercourse! First sin was intercourse!
Carrie: The first sin was intercourse! Mama, I was so scared, I thought I was dying! And the girls, they all laughed at me and threw things at me.
[Margaret slaps her again]
Margaret: "And eve was weak." Say it!
Carrie: No! No!
Margaret: Eve was weak! Eve was weak! Eve was weak! Say it, woman! Say it!!
Carrie: AND EVE WAS WEAK! EVE WAS WEAK!

I watched that scene (and the one in my signature) like 50 times each and laughed until I cried!!! Piper Laurie (Margaret), Sissy Spacek (Carrie) and Betty Buckly (Coach Collins) were GREAT in this movie! I was looking for any sites dedicated to it, but I not be able to find any.

And has anyone seen the remake? Is it any good?

Carrie is a great film. It was directed by Brian De Palma who also directed Scarface, The Untoucables and Mission Impossible. Early in his career he made many great horror/thrillers. Check out Dressed To Kill, Blow Out and Body Double.

The television remake of Carrie was good. Certainly as far as made for television movies go. However the 1999 theatrical sequal The Rage:Carrie 2 was just terrible. Also, to really see Carrie you need to see the DVD or at least the video. There was supposed to a lot of humor in the film, but a lot of the funnier stuff gets edited out on television.

I liked it- didn't love it... although, I'm not a fan of King's work anyway. But it was one of his better... creations.

My dad was watching this movie when I was about 7 years old, and I sorta hid in the corner and watched it, too. I didn't sleep for weeks! Nothing ever freaked me out like "Carrie."

Forget the made-for-tv 'remake', this is the movie to watch. Yeah, I've seen Carrie several times and I love it. IMO, it's one of King's best adaptations. If you get the chance, pick up the Collector's Edition on DVD - the extras are not to be missed. It still amazes me that Piper Laurie hadn't been in a movie since The Hustler, when Brian De Palma decided to cast her as Margaret White (what a performance!).

When Miss Collins is lecturing the girls on their little stunt, I get the biggest kick out of watching her.

"I'm sorry, could ya speak up?"

"Billy Nolan."

"Well isn't he the lucky one."

I liked De Palma's Carrie, along with his film 'Phantom of the Paradise'. But to be honest, I thought the tv remake was better. My problems with the remake was the guy who played Billy and the girl who took Amy Irving's character (what was her character called again???)- otherwives it was good, much more faithful to the book. There's one funny (yet desperate) attempt to update the story- Carrie is searching about Telekinesis online and her Mother just goes "THE INTERNET!!!!"

The sequel was alright, but it seemed like a desperate attempt to cash in on the original.

Last night I was thinking about this film cos some people in the street must've been talking about it and they were screaming "They're all gonna laugh at you" a million times!

Carrie is a great horror flick. I have to agree with some here that state the remake wasn't as good.

I thought Rage wasn't half bad however

I'm a huge Stephen King junkie, and Carrie is his first, and one of his best stories. I love the original movie, always have, always will. Everyone does such a great performance in it - Amy Irving, Sissy Spacek, William Katt... even John Travolta! The remake was alright - up until the ending which completely spoiled the whole thing in my mind. Oh well.

Useless Carrie trivia: did you guys know that Sue Snell and her mother are played by real life mother and daughter Amy Irving and Priscilla Pointer? Thought I'd share

Yeah, the only other problem with the remake was the ending- but the reason the ending was changed is that a tv-show was planned if the remake did well- following Carrie's adventures in Miami.
