I loved, loved, LOVED me some Bubba!! He was laid-back and funny in his own way, he reminds me of my grandfather.
My favorite Bubba episodes were Lamont, Is That You? (the 'sissy' bar) and The Blind Mellow Jelly Collection ("I WANT MY DADDY'S RECORDS!!") Grady on the other hand tried too hard and was annoying as hades....the alleged classic marijuana episode was not funny at all, and I was so glad when Redd Foxx settled his dispute and came back to the show, relieving us of this moron. Anyway, who did you like better? Bubba or Grady? |

Bubba. Grady tried to act too much like Fred when he was MIA.

Grady does not bother me in these episodes, though I know he should. |

But Grady was ok because he stood out- I never forgot Grady from when I was a kid. But until I saw reruns I didn't remember Bubba. |

I am happy that we got both and didn't have to chose. Although, I don't think Bubba would have made a good stand-in for Fred while he was on strike.

I'm not sure what all the negativity is all about? I personally admire Bubba & Grady equally with the highest esteem. They were a pair of costars that were instrumental in the functionality and pure genuine comedy of the show. They were both great in their own way and filled two vital niches necessary for the success of the show. They were ideal pigeons for Fred's comedy routine & they both meant a lot to Fred. Don Bexley is resting in heavonly peace & I wish Whitman Mayo continued good health.

I like both Bubba and Grady but I would have to give the edge to Grady. I think Grady did a great job filling in for Fred when Redd Foxx was on strike. The marijuana episode was a classic. One of the all time best episodes of Sanford and Son.

Grady. I think he had more character development on the show.
