Phone bill, almost fainted when I opened it..

I opened my phone bill today and I nearly fainted,it was $193.oomostly out of the country calls I do not no any one out of the country,so I called the long distances carrier and the operator sdaid that I dialed some web sites on the computer,she said that some ofthem may have warnings before you dial up,but it did not,and I dialed any ways. I did not know that would be that much,hopefully they won't charge me for it,but I am going to pay for it.Pay some at a time notthe whole $193. I used to call the 900 numbers and one time my bill was$500.00.
I thought I was over that stage. It won't happen again. I blocked the 900 numbers and I am going to block those other web sites that you dial for personal stuff.

what countries are these calls going to?

there are a few different spyware-phone diallers out there that do some sneaky, nasty things - they mute your modem, then disconnect your dial-up isp connection, then they dial a long-distance toll call to some foreign country and connect you back to the internet, turn the modem speaker back on again, and you have NO way of knowing until you get the bill....

i would fight the bill with the phone company, ask them to investigate the calls, and download Spybot and AdAware and make SURE that tou dont have any such spyware on your computer...

i've always wondered how much normal phone bills are.. like for people that spend average time on the phone.

It was not 900's numbers this time,it did not say where they came from,it's just that one call was for 77bucks,then80,and 150. The operator did say that I shoud know in 2 weeks,i am just goingto pay a little at a time,it was one of those adult sites that dialed up the internate, She said some of them have warnings,but these did not have any warning sgins,and I think if they don't do any thing about it I will fight it. How stubid I can be. NEVER AGAIN.So it's an expensive lesson to learn,hopefully it will be allright.
