Default second pilot

After seeing the first version of the pilot, I wonder if the second one will be released perhaps with the season 3 set. Who was the third girl with John and Joyce and charachter name, wasn't Joyce's charachter Jenny? Was John Jack and did George and Mildred become Stanley and Helen?

From what I've read, I believe pilot #2 will be on the season 3 set. The cast and characters of pilot #2 was as follows:

John Ritter as Jack Tripp
Joyce DeWitt as Janet Wood (Janet was Jenny in pilot #1 only)
Susan Lanier as Chrissy Snow
Norman Fell as Stanley Roper
Audra Lindley as Helen Roper

OMG...I know. I can't wait to see the pilot #2. i think there is a great Janet and Jack kiss.

I sure wish they would get those dvd's out quicker. I wonder why they wait so long in between?? All seasons of Friends came out at the same time. Same with other tv shows. I don't understand why the TC seasons can't come out any quicker.

Hmmm. It sounds like the second pilot, will be more similar to the actual show. The only real difference is a different actress playing Chrissy (and that Mrs. Roper didn't wear her mumu at this point). Still, it would be very interesting to see that.

i have a really hard time believing that Three's A Crowd will ever get relleased on DVD

(and that goes DOUBLE for Too Close for Comfort)

i would think that if the sales go well, they would start pushing up the release dates to try and catch the momentum - the more they sell, the faster they will come out.

It's because Three's Company is an older show, which requires restoration and remastering among other things, especially since these shows were on TAPE. Shows like Friends don't require this process, since they're new and they're DIGITAL. Makes a big difference.

Also, Friends is guaranteed to sell due to the show being part of the mainstream of entertainment (at least it was until the show ended). Three's Company, while it has its fans, is not nearly a sure thing. I love the show, and you love the show, but Joe Q. Public would invest in a current favorite before buying a show that was out probably before they were even born.

And they probably didn't do too many episodes ahead of schedule since they were unsure if they'd sell or not. Remember, they're doing this to make money. A case in point is The Mary Tyler Moore Show. That show is a classic and if there ever was a show that deserved the ultimate DVD treatment, it was that show, and yet release has been halted on the show because Season 1 failed to sell well enough to justify the expense in restoring the episodes and releasing them. How were they to know the same wouldn't happen to Three's Company? Because John Ritter died? Sad to say, I think his passing made the show front and center and helped to sell more copies. It's a lousy trade-off but that's sometimes the case when you're dealing with shows older than 20 years.

Another factor are the extras. Commentaries, deleted scenes, unused pilots and clip montages, not to mention quizzes and games, all take time to devise. The process for deleted scenes must be painstaking, that's for sure. Imagine having to rummage through that stuff when back in the day no one thought to take proper care of it. And it has to go through the same remastering process as the shows.

Yeah, it's frustrating for me as well to have to wait, but I'll settle for waiting if it ensures that these episodes will be released with as much love and respect as Season 2 was. We deserve it, John Ritter deserves it and in the long run, we'll all be happy because the finished product will be a class-act, even if the pace at which it's released is that of a snail...

That's sad.Just because the star of the show died, they started making the DVDs.I'm glad they started making the DVDs,but they're making money off of a man's death.I'm suprised Hearts of Fire,Hooperman, and 8 Simple Rules(Season 1) isn't out if that's the reason

In their defense, plans were made for Three's Company to come out while John Ritter was alive, and he was scheduled to record commentaries for Season 1 the week that he died, so no greedyness on their parts.

It's a sad fact that things become more valuable once a person associated with it has died. Me for instance. I lost my mother unexpectedly this past February and my mother's mother 2 1/2 weeks ago. My sisters and brother and I have been rummaging through old things and are keeping stuff we wouldn't ever think to keep simply because my mother and grandmother are no longer here.

I think it's the same with Three's Company. I know if Ritter were still alive, the show would've sold. All I'm saying is that there might be more buying who normally wouldn't have due to his passing. In either case, it is fans who are buying the sets: the hardcore and the casual. With Ritter's passing, it's made the show more valuable to some who took it for granted.

It's a lousy tradeoff but what happened is what happened. Nothing can change it. Not putting out the DVDs is not going to bring John Ritter back so they may as well go for broke. But at least it can be proven that plans were called for the show to see DVD release about 6 months before Ritter passed. And at least the sets are released with a lot of love and respect.

What more could we ask for?

Ed
