Question Member Ages?

i did a quick search, but found noting. i am 27 and a HUGE fan of the dick van dyke show, possibly a bigger fan than most of you who grew up with it! ( challenge me!) i began watching the dick van dyke show in my late teens, so i've been watching religiously for ten years now. by far the best sitcom ever. anyway, i was just curious to see what the average age is of the members here. am i one of the youngest?

I'm 26. I've been watching it for about 12 years...I think. I started when it was part of the Nick@Nite line up. I can't remember when that started though.

I noticed that you live in Virginia. I live just up the road in the Shenandoah Valley.

I'm 48 and have been watching since it originally aired in the 60's. Growing up, it was always on in reruns. There was a dry spell for a while after college when it didn't seem to be on when I could watch it, but I have rarely missed it since it came on Nick at Nite a few years ago. And now with the final season coming next week, I will watch it as often as I want to. My last words to my husband Bob will probably be, "Oh, Rob!" I also live in Virginia, in Fairfax Station.

It's nice to meet another fellow Virginian.

My parents haven't said much about watching it when they were growing up, but my grandmother has. She and I were both counting down the days until The Dick Van Dyke Show Revisited aired on CBS.

I'll be 44 in August, (now I wish I lived in Virginia too!), and I've been watching since the original episodes. My parents used to watch the show when I was a too young for school, and I watched with them. I never stopped!

I'd have to say that I am somewhat surprised by the responses to this question. I've been hanging around this board for years, and I always thought I hung in the space between the "teens" and the "original viewers" of the show.

Although I don't usually share many personal details about myself on the internet, I guess I'll ask you to add me to the "26-years-old" club that has seemed to form around here

I have a hard time remembering how long I've been watching the show. I would guess I started about 4 or 5 months before I found this website, which was over three years ago now (where does the time go?). I grew up in a house without a lot of TV access, and all I know was that this was one of the great TV shows I "discovered" my first few years living on my own and having cable TV. Over the past few years, The Dick Van Dyke Show has remained my all time favorite.

I would also have to say that I've really enjoyed this board. When I first found it, there weren’t even enough posts for more then one page. Now we are on page 13 of new posts! This place has changed a lot over the years.

I'd also have to say that although I don't have much time to post (and I don't tend to be overly talkative or opinionated to begin with) I read everything that's posted, and I feel very much like you all are my fellow group of fans. I'm always happy to get some time to come over and catch up on what's being posted. I feel like I've come to know many of you over these years.

I've noticed that since the DVDs came out, this board has seemed to come alive and stay pretty active. It's been great to see all the new people posting. I still remember the days when it would be great to get one new post per week! I hope this trend of being more active continues from now on.

Sorry for getting a little long winded here, but I wanted you all to know that I am constantly around, and I'm glad to have such a great group of fellow fans to hear opinions from. I'm also excited to find that a few of you are my age! It's great to know that this show will continue to be enjoyed by those of us from the next generation and hopefully the ones to come too.

Christina

You're not the youngest, Riley! I'm 14 (15 next month). It's good to see TDVDS forum has a lot of young fans! It shows how timeless the Van Dyke show is if the younger generation can appreciate and enjoy this sow as much as our parents (and grandparents) do.

Kurt

P.S. Sorry I haven't posted in a while....I've had exams at school for the past week or so. But now they're all done and I can post here more often! A word to the wise: exams stink!

Just to mention, my 11 year old son and 7 and 5 year old daughters love the Dick Van Dyke Show also. They are very excited that season 5 is on it's way. I Love Lucy is another favorite for them. I am very grateful for the generations coming up that love these classic shows and eschew the garbage that is passed off as entertainment these days.

I turn 40 in another four months. I have to say I am surprised by how many young ones there are here.

I know I have gotten my whole family addicted, including my 12 and 5-year-old sons. My 12-year-old really likes the show and watches it on his own a lot.

I started watching the show in reruns on one of the local channels many moons ago, probably in the neighborhood of 20 years ago.

I remember filling up 10 video tapes back in '92 when N@N ran TDVD marathon for a week. My how times have changed. I can't wait for Season 5 because there are so many great episodes on it, but I can't believe it's the last season. Considering the quality of the 5th season, it's unfortunate there wasn't a 6th season, but alas all good things must come to an end.

I am soon to be 30, and I have been watching the show since it originally premiered on Nick at Nite all those years ago. I fell in love with the show right away.

Cool

I'm too young to have seen the show in primetime or remember seeing it on CBS daytime, but I've been familiar w/ the show for years, noticing when I was a kid that it was something Mary Tyler Moore did before she had her own show. I didn't appreciate it as much when I was younger, but my appreciation may have begun when I got a copy of TV Guide from my birth week and found a TV Guide Close-Up of a rerun of The Impractical Joker and thought that the plot looked like a good one. (Most of you can probably guess how old I am, or almost am, by the previous sentence. ) I even remember wondering why DvD was on Nick at Nite, since it was still being rerun pretty extensively on local stations. I've just come to appreciate the show in the years since, and now I can enjoy eps of the show whenever I want thanks to the DVD set.
