This was indeed Norman Lear's idea to bring more moral-based programming to the tv. In the late 70's early 80's Norman Lear and his producers wanted to have a more family friendly type show to be viewed by all. I mean with less the controversy. In a lot of Diff'rent Strokes themes there were a lot of moral based tones on the show. I mean racism, fairness, obedience, discipline, and a lot more were shared. This was a show more conservative in the agenda at that time. As it entered the Reagan era, the show was a hit like crazy. Nancy Reagan guest starred as a fighter in the war against kids using drugs. They taught chidren not to talk to strangers and taught them tricks that people might use to try and assault them. This was a show that took the best interest of adults and children and taught them lessons and great values. They actually seemed to care. What do you think?
