I was thinking of another one... I was discussing this stuff with a friend the other day... This is it: when Maddie and Dave were arguing and yelling at each other... which one of the charachters did u usually think was right?? I mean... were u against/for Maddie/Dave...???
This is my answer... I'm with Maddie most of the time... BUT (there's always a "but"... haha) sometimes he IS right... I go crazy the day after the "night" they slept together... You know, Maddie always thinking everything so well... You see David smiling, he's very, but veeery happy, and she looks sad... Saying "we need to make an agreement" arghhhh!!! Whyy do u have to reason everything Maddie??? Can't u try to be happy for a moment? hehehehe But then... she wouldn't be Maddie if she did... |

Good question!
I have to agree with you here. I usually go with Mads, but there are always times when she's just over the top. Besides, Dave is too cute to disagree with all the time.

Maddie always tended to overanalyze things which is fine in real life but of course a tv show killer.
David would just go with the moment and let things be, which as an audience I think we wanted. Too much of Maddie dissecting everything makes her come out as the bad guy even if she was right. I mean, for crying out loud, she marries that Walter character! |

In most of the articles I have read and persons affiliated with the show I have talked to, the intention was to make it where neither David nor Maddie came out on top in the arguments...that each would have a valid side. I do think in certain arguments, one or the other sometimes had a bit more valid point than the other, but sometimes that was Maddie and other times that was David. (For instance, I think she gets the final word in the Big Man on Mulberry Street argument about him being late for work and he clearly has the advantage in the spontaneity argument in The Man Who Cried Wife) but by and large, no one was usually right and no one was usually wrong.
And interestingly enough...the right and the wrong seldom had to do with the fact that one saw things from a female point of view and one from a male point of view. Many times Maddie tended to have a more rational, practical opinon (usually traditionally associated with a masculine point of view) and David tended to have a more emotional, romantic opinion (usually traditionally associated with a feminine point of view). |
