Some long running shows die on their last leg, while others remain fresh till the end.
For this post only, long running is considered 7 Seasons What long running show do you think could've gone on for a few more years, without dropping in quality?? |

While the Star Trek Series have always called it quits after seven seasons, I think "Next Generation" and "Deep Space Nine" could have gone another season or two without any drop in quality.

They had a good run, they revitalized the Trek TV Franchise, and by the seventh season they were about to take over the movie franchise, so the producers decided to end the series while they were on top. The other series followed suit. Seven seasons and out. I think it's a good rule. Most sitcoms run out of ideas after five seasons anyway. |

Cheers probably still could have had the same quality if it lasted one more season.

Wings, Cheers, and Who's the Boss? were still pretty good in thier last seasons, so I think they could've both had another good season. Although not a sitcom, I also think Dynasty could've lasted at least one more season, if not more. Its final season was one of its best.

Family Ties, Who's The Boss?, even Cheers. Non-sitcom, I'd say Dynasty.

"Alice"
and non-sitcom, definatly "Melrose Place." It started to pick up at the VERY VERY end, like the last four or five episodes. |
