Post No Diff'rent Strokes on Nick at Nite!

It appears that according to the latest schedule that Diff'rent Strokes will not be on Nick at Nite. I'll post the relevant schedule for now.

The info can be found in General Discussion under the thread "Nick at Nite schedule after Cheers Marathon" where Pavanbadal posts the schedule update. Here's the info:

posted 10-08-2001 09:16 AM
Sunday schedule has changed already:
(Starting this Sunday, October 14)
Sundays:
9-10 Brady Bunch
10-11 Cheers
11-12 Family Ties
12-1 Three's Company
1-2 Cheers
2-3 All In The Family
3-4 Family Ties
4-5 Brady Bunch
5am Jeffersons

Diff'rent Strokes 11-12 is gone, as well as Laverne & Shirley at 5am!

Of course Sunday Oct 21, 9-12 will be the Halloween special, but 12am-5am will be this schedule.

Nick at Nite needs to make a schedule something like this:

8:00 The Brady Bunch
8:30 Diff'rent Strokes
9:00 Family Ties
9:30 Family Ties
10:00 Cheers
10:30 Cheers
11:00 Three's Company
11:30 All in the Family
12:00 The Jeffersons
12:30 Laverne & Shirley
1:00 The Brady Bunch
1:30 Diff'rent Strokes
2:00 Cheers
2:30 Cheers
3:00 Family Ties
3:30 Three's Company
4:00 All in the Family
4:30 The Jeffersons
5:00 Laverne & Shirley

That way everything is spread out and there is more variety and Nick can do what they obviously want to do, which is air more Cheers than any other show.

Could one of our beloved virtually proffesional sitcom viewers please inquire as to the reason for this? Could we get an explanation from Nick? And most importantly, how can we go about altering Nick's decision besides just pounding them with e-mails?

I'm sure they wanted to keep it since it was aratings hit, but it seems it was part of that Screen Gems deal, which can mean a show can not stay long.
Let's get ready for the Diff'rent Strokes Final Hurrah on TV Land's 48 Hor Marathon on Oct 27-28!

I know that marathon will be on TV Land, but is that where it's officially going to stay? Or is going to be on Screen Gems?

The people at Nick At Nite don't have a clue how to run it!

They should let a lot of Sitcom lovers plan the programmes being shown instead of people who have probably never seen DS or FOL in their lives!

Can't They BUY it Seperally? I Know They Prob. Want to Keep it, But......Well, I Don't Know But.

But I'll Tell You One Thing! The Only Show I'll Be Watching Reg on Nick will be "Three's Company" because they got rid of DS and L&S!

Looks like I'm going to have to go to the store and buy a bunch of blank video tapes so I can tape as much of the DS marathon as I can. As for FOL the only episodes that I ever wanna see again are "Dope" and
"The Little Chill." Anyway, Nick At Nite has some serious issues.

Looks like I WON'T be watching N@N anymore. They have taken off 2 of my
favorite shows, Diff'rent Strokes and
Facts of Life. This might sound mean, but I hope to god that N@N loses ratings.
I really do! Whoever is in charge of picking, scheduling and airing tv shows,
is really screwing up, excuse my language, I do apologize but I'm wayyyyy
beyond pissed at N@N.

They have to live and die with Cheers; its their manifest destiny. For Slick Nick paid 75 million for Cheers. And I just don't know. Cheers is not a bad show, but right now its The Great Silence on my TV as I've switched N@N off now. I've been watching Cheers for the past couple of days off & on but now:

I can tell you now for sure that I won't be watching Nick at Nite this week as long as the Cheers Marathon is on. Or watching the Cheers Specials. Or the Cheers shows. N@N's scheduling is very clever.

They put Brady Bunch on 1st for the kiddies at 9:00 PM and then Cheers for the parents at 10:00; they're hoping to lead the older folks to the Promised Land that is Cheers. Nick may want to, as the song says, go with the in crowd of Teens & Young Adults. Family Ties goes after Cheers at 11:00, which I think is curious.

Of course the kids would yawn and fall beddy-bye before the Brady Grid (My Uncle Isaac goes to bed at 9:00 PM! & he's in his 60s) and the grown ups would realize: Cheers is set in a bar! Oh no! We shan't let this filth pollute our airwaves. They might not be a come a calling. More on Cheers:

You see Cheers is a story type show. Cheers has to be watched regularly or else the viewer loses the point of the show, sort of like ER. Kids and teens won't watch it regularly and that leaves adults. The young adults and older people, which would be their target audience, Might catch it. Then again, I'm a Young Adult Male, 28 years old, and this show's a Cure for Insomnia most of the time.

Family Ties has a better chance for its more hip & with it, kiddies can watch as can teens & adults. And the Buzz I felt when it came back on Nick, I gotta tell you, was Righteous. For its sort of like Brady Bunch in its family get-together-ness; yea and its More Funny Too! Where as Cheers is sort of OK, but I never could follow the Sam & Diane thing much less Woody. Etc. Also the comedy came in spurts and was more subtle at times.

Diff'rent Strokes has been taken off the regular rotation because of the Screen Gems thing. Now maybe N@N needs professional help for those shows had good ratings! Amen. Or they had to compensate for their "Blockbuster" acquisition of the Cheers/Family Ties experience, so an extra program or 2 had to go. Sounds like TBS is being cloned in the form of Nick at Nite. Say what?

And now Nick has bought up Cheers for a mess of the Real Thing. The $. The bread.
Well as Chris Berman and Peter Brady says and Chris can go 1st:

Back back back back (his monologue)

Peter:

Going, going, gone (magic act ep)

Unless the demographic suitable to Cheers can be reached.

I just don't know.

Brady Bunch repeating Sun-Thur after Cheers Marathon at 4:00 AM-5:00 AM? Naw! Even a Brady Fan has to wonder, as Greg did to Mr. B in the pay phone ep:

I don't dig. Is Nick at Nite trying to get the 3rd Shift into the Brady Mania; yea the Wonders of the Grid and all that?
Me thinks they'll be sleepy, especially if you use the "Air the Davy Jones show 12 times" Master Plan! Yep time for Brainwashing again.

Or are you saving the Real Thing. The $--Never mind.

Cheers.

I have read all of your issues on this show and all I have to say is that's why the VCR was invented. You see, first off Nick at Nite didn't market it like they should have. The Facts of Life didn't last too long on there. Also Nick at Nite has the rights for so long. Their timeline just ran out. I taped a lot of them. They were also running on a local station here in the Chicago area. Tape them. that way you won't miss them. I think it's a wonderful show, but tape them before you see them on the Screen Gems Network badly edited.
