I have to get my wisdom teeth taken out - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

My dentist just told me today. I'm not looking forward to it. All 4 need to come out before I go back to school in August. I have very low pain tolerance so I'm scared how that'll be. Please tell me your experiences if you've had yours taken out.

I really hope I heal by the time I go back to school. I'll have like 2 or 3 weeks so that should be enough. I'm also NOT being put to sleep when they get pulled. I'm freaking out!

That sucks!! I have 4 impacted wisdom teeth now, and I can feel one coming in real good. He said theyd only have to come out if they hurt, or theres no room. So far, theyre fine. My teeth are weird. I still have 2 baby teeth thatll more than likely never come out. -.-

I had mine out while I was a senior in high school, they'll knock you out when you get them taken out, yes it's painful afterwards just like any surgery would be, but it can depend on the individual, the pain goes away after a few days, at least it did for me, and I had all mine taken out at once, they were coming in slanted

Sorry you have to have this done, but at least you can have it done now and get it over with and not have to worry about them later in life

I had mine taken out a year ago. The pain was HORRIBLE the first day. Though, after that it went away pretty quickly.

I had to have mine cut out by an oral surgeon. I had them taken out two at a time. The pain wasn't too bad. I hardly even used any of the pain meds that were prescribed to me. The worst part was not being able to eat anything for 3 or 4 days after. I had to survive on soup and popsicles.

I had all four taken out a couple month after I graduated from High School. They knocked me out for it though. The pain wasn't too bad, The anesthesia made me feel sick though, that was the worse part.

I had mine taken out when I was 16. It didn't hurt that bad, but there was a lot of blood afterwards.

It doesn't hurt to have them taken out, because they use the anesthetic.

But afterwards, you'll need pain killers, and you may not be able to eat solid food for a few days.

No they are the teeth in the very back. They are barely visible.

My dentist told me that I won't be knocked out for the procedure and it's "just like having a filling" done. Everyone I've talked to seems to say they were knocked out so I don't know why I won't be!

You don't need to be knocked out. You won't feel anything.

I don't know why he wouldn't knock you out. Maybe he's a sadistic dentist who likes to give people pain, who knows!
I had two taken out(of course, I only had two wisdom teeth to begin with. I guess I wasn't wise enough for four.

), and the dentist gave me an intravenous(sp?) anesthetic, and said I would be asleep but not asleep, in that he could call my name and I would hear him and wake up, partially. I do remember waking up to him tugging on one of the teeth, but with that anesthetic, I didn't even care. I didn't feel any pain. In fact, I didn't feel any pain until hours later, after the anesthetic had worn off.

Maybe that's what he means by not knocking you out?! I can't imagine a dentist doing that kind of procedure with just novacaine.
