Default Freddie In Diabetes Forecast Magazine

When I was in the BOOKS-A-MILLION bookstore last nite, I saw the new issue of the AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATIONS magazine DIABETES FORECAST. It had an article on Della Reese in it who is diabetic like Freddies mom is. I looked at it & in it is a picture of Chico, & Ed with Della. Of course I bought it. My hubby & I are both diabetic so this was special to me to see Freddie in a diabetes magazine. I realized that this is the month of his birthday & how nice to see him in a magazine. I plan to scan it & put it on here but it may be quite awhile as our niece from Ohio & her hubby are down visiting this week & no time for scanning yet...

Default Dani asked me to post this...

this is the picture of Freddie in the diabetes forecast magazine.
I wonder if Freddie would have gotten diabetes, since his mom got it?

Fredricko looked so beautiful........ And Della!!! She was so skinny when she was younger. For Freddie to be in a diabetes magazine and his Mom suffering from it is so strange huh?

If I were Fred Jr. I would take up the diabetes cause......... for his Grandmother and Della of course....

I wonder how old Maria was when she got diabetes? My father got diabetes well into his 80's. Prior to that he never had it.

If Jr. doesn't take up the Diabetes cause than if I were him I would work with Suicide prevention in some way. He could reach millions of people..........

Arrow FYI

As those of you who have this terrible disease know, Diabetes tends to skip generations. My mother in law died from complications and so did several of her siblings. My husband and his family check themselves, but I worry more about my own children getting it one day as adults. I had them closely monitored as children and we have been blessed that they didn't get the type one kind (juvenile). It is my understanding tho that it is the type two, or adult onset, that is the one that skips the generational gap. Junior should be monitoring his blood sugar on a regular basis, since it is his grandmother who has it. Hopefully one day there will be a cure for this terrible disease.

As for Junior raising awareness of this and of Suicide prevention, that would be laudable. While we are on this topic, mental illnesses such as Depression, Panic disorders, Bipolar disorder and the like should also have a spokesperson. The more I read, the more I am convinced that if Freddie were around today and going through what he did back in the 70's he might have been diagnosed with any of these. One of the manifestations of Bi Polar Disorder is the fact that the people who have it show bursts of great creativity and genius. A friend of mine has a child who might be bi-polar and in reading about this, I realize many of the things it talks about could have applied to Freddie. Apparently many famous people have been bi-polar, many musicians and artists.Famous People with Mood Disorders I am still convinced that if medicine had been around like it is today to help Freddie, he would have been here too, to watch his son grow up. I hope Junior realizes that it might not have been all his dad's fault that he checked out on him. Freddie had more wrong with him than anyone knew.

I think Jr should take up the cause for depression & diabetes. My hubby & I both have diabetes. He is legally blind due to undiagnosed diabetes. I have neuropathy in my feet due to undiagnosed diabetes. The diabetes caused me to get depression too, so I can understand how Freddie felt. I recommend that everyone get tested for diabetes whether you have a family history or not. I would hate to see someone get really ill or go blind cuz they had diabetes & did not know it...
