Not that long ago, but which songs have staying power? Which are songs that you look back and say "Why was this so popular"? What's good? What's terrible?
Hot 100: (Oddly enough only 4 out of the top ten actually hit the top of the weekly chart, proving that consistency over an extended period of time is key, some of these records' year end rankings are higher than any position that they ever reached in any week during the year) 1- Hanging By A Moment- Lifehouse 2- Fallin- Alicia Keys 3- All for You- Janet Jackson 4- Drops of Jupiter- Train 5- I'm Real- Jennifer Lopez/JaRule 6- If You're Gone- Matchbox20 7-Let Me Blow Your Mind- Eve/Gwen Stefani 8-Thank You- Dido 9-Again- Lenny Kravitz 10- Independent Women- Destiny's Child NOTE: Destiny's Child were the top act in this chart; their song was #1 for 11 weeks longer than anything above it. The ones that never topped the list were Kravitz, Dido, Eve, Train, Matchbox20 and Lifehouse. Lifehouse was the 3rd act to top the year end chart with a song that peaked at #2 on the weekly list R&B 1- Fiesta- R Kelly 2- Missing You- Case 3- Love- Musiq Soulchild 4- Where the Party At- Jagged Edge/Nelly 5- Stutter- Joe/Mystical 6- U Remind Me- Usher 7- Peaches and Cream- 112 8- forgot this one 9-Fallin- Alicia Keys 10- Heard it All Before- Sunshine Anderson NOTE: ALthough most of these were top ten pop hits the only song common to both hot 100 and r&b is Fallin. Top artist is R Kelly Adult Contemporary 1- I Hope You Dance- Lee Ann Womack 2- This I Promise You - NSync 3- If You're Gone- Matchbox20 4- Thank You- Dido 5- The Way You Love Me- Faith Hill 6- Shape of My Heart- Backstreet Boys 7- I Need You- Lee Ann Rimes 8- I Knew I Loved You- Savage Garden 9- Only Time- Enya 10-Cruisin- Huey Lewis/Gwyneth Paltrow top artist: Faith Hill NOTE: Adult top 40 which is the hip baby brother chart of Adult Contemporary listed Matchbox20's tune as its top single, with Train and Dido's songs also in its top 10. |

1- Hanging By A Moment- Lifehouse- never heard this
2- Fallin- Alicia Keys- nothing special 3- All for You- Janet Jackson- the original Glow of Love that this song samples is a much better record 4- Drops of Jupiter- Train- interesting tune with nice string section 5- I'm Real- Jennifer Lopez/JaRule- the very title is a joke, the hook is catchy but the song is stupid 6- If You're Gone- Matchbox20- I prefer Unwell 7-Let Me Blow Your Mind- Eve/Gwen Stefani- don't really know this 8-Thank You- Dido- somnombulism 101 but still has a certain charm, better this than Eminem's record 9-Again- Lenny Kravitz- don't know this 10- Independent Women- Destiny's Child- ho-hum R&B 1- Fiesta- R Kelly- not into this 2- Missing You- Case- fairly pleasant by modern r&b standards 3- Love- Musiq Soulchild- this is a pretty good song 4- Where the Party At- Jagged Edge/Nelly- don't like this 5- Stutter- Joe/Mystical- don't know this, but Joe is rather boring 6- U Remind Me- Usher- dull affair 7- Peaches and Cream- 112- not big on this 8- forgot this one 9-Fallin- Alicia Keys 10- Heard it All Before- Sunshine Anderson- not a favorite but the singer has a lot of moxy in her delivery, the producer Mike City was hot for a brief moment Adult Contemporary 1- I Hope You Dance- Lee Ann Womack- nice esp the version with Sons of the Desert in the background 2- This I Promise You - NSync- nothing special 3- If You're Gone- Matchbox20 4- Thank You- Dido 5- The Way You Love Me- Faith Hill- nothing special 6- Shape of My Heart- Backstreet Boys- nothing special 7- I Need You- Lee Ann Rimes- a little irritating 8- I Knew I Loved You- Savage Garden- pleasant song funny because I hate their other monster hit Truly Madly Deeply 9- Only Time- Enya-It's like having a bee buzz in your ear for 4 minutes while you're driving 10-Cruisin- Huey Lewis/Gwyneth Paltrow- for some reason I like this even though it is over the top. I think it was the only one here to miss the top 100. Of the A/C songs 1, 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9 were year end top 10 hits again in either 2000 or 2002 |
