Default MTM Season 2 on DVD

Does anyone know when MTM Season 2 will be released on DVD? Originally, it was supposed to come out in March of this year. What happened? Please let me know. Thanks.

Fox claims that season 1 did not sell well enough to justify putting out the second season. Hopefully, some other company will pick up the rights. You never know.

Actually, it was supposed to be out in March of last year (2003).

There IS still hope for MTM-2, IMO. I truly feel that it WILL eventually see the light of day. For two reasons: #1 -- This show is just too good (with a huge fan base) to rot away in a vault somewhere. And #2 -- The second-season DVD is already in the can! Ed Asner has said this many months ago. Hard to believe they'll go to the trouble of finishing the product, re-mastering all 24 episodes, and then do NOTHING with it.

I'm still hoping that Image Entertainment, Inc., will buy the rights to the remaining MTM seasons for DVD distribution. Because we all know how great the Dick Van Dyke sets from Image are. Any MTM collections are likely to be of similar quality should Image acquire the rights to them.

David,
Thanks for that link. I agree with a lot of what I read on there (I didn't read all of it, but I might go back someday and read the rest). If Fox already has season 2 done, why not just release it? Or, if for some reason they don't want to, they should see if Image is interested. I'm sure they would be, since it shouldn't be too hard to cross-promote TMTMS and TDVDS.

It's just nice to know this isn't quite as dead an issue as I thought. Makes me feel a whole lot better.

I've been watching MTMS Season 1 during my workouts over the last week, and it's just hitting me again how sad it is that crap like "What's Happening?" and "Felicity" is getting the full treatment while FOX can't make a business case for one of the best shows ever produced.

Someone who cares about quality television needs to get their hands on this show. I would think it a horrible shame if my library never included all seven seasons. At any reasonable price.

Boy Joe, do I ever agree! Felicity doesn't hold a candle to MTM.

Someone may kill me for saying this, but I do not want any of the remaining seasons to be released, unless FOX sells the rights to another company. If FOX ever does decide to release the second season, it will most likely be a bare-bones set with little or no extras at all. Also, if season two is released, extras or no extras, no company is going to eventually go back and re-release it with better extras. So we are stuck with a bad set, if they were to release it now. Needless to say, we would also never get to see the Emmy Awards footage and promotional sposts from the second season, or any cast commentaries for the second season ever again. This is why I am NOT pressuring with numerous emails and telephone calls for FOX to release season two. On the contrary, I am pressuring FOX with numerous emails and phone calls to sell the rights to a good company, such as Image. This is the reason why I am "hoping" for lac of a better word, that season two will not be released, at least unless FOX sells the rights.

That is a good point. But since it's already in the can supposedly, they should release it.

I'd rather have a bare bones set of just the episodes without even a cover picture, just wrapped in brown paper...than never seeing the episodes at all

Default Season sets with extras . . .

Season sets when they have extras are nice, but, IMHO, I'm much more interested in the episodes themselves than in the extras. Personally, I'd do away with any "extras" if it meant that I'd see some more seasons faster. I bought the Season One MTM Show and was disappointed that they didn't release anymore season sets. The MTM Show started to get better AFTER Season One so the fans are losing out, IMHO, by not seeing any more seasons released of this show.

Signed,
Respectfully,
Dutch

The extras are nice, but if that's what's holding this up, I could care less about them.

There just aren't that many quality shows out there. This is very sad.

The first season was remastered so well, the picture quality is amazing. As bad as FOX are about releasing this show, and correct me if I am wrong, but they do a fantastic job cleaning up their tv shows for release on dvd.

I am worried that if another company took over they would do a poor job, however I also don't want to wait 20yrs to see the last ep on dvd.

Do you have any of the Dick Van Dyke Show sets? Image Entertainment, Inc. has done an excellent job of remastering original footage better than any other company. May I also, say that The Dick Van Dyke Show is 10 years older than the Mary Tyler Moore Show.

I noticed Season 1 at Wal-mart yesterday. It was the first time I have seen it there. It was 38.76, a good price too.

I wonder if this is an attempt to see how well it can sell at a lower price before Fox decides about season 2?
