Default Comparing Jody Watley and Karyn White

Let's compare two late 80's R&B stars. Jody Watley and Karyn White. Who do you like better?

It is amazing how many things they have in common. Not only did both of them had their biggest hits in the late 80's- early 90's, but they have other things in common.

Both are from California (Jody is originally from Kansas City, but moved to California when she was a kid). Both married their producers. Jody was briefly married to Andre Cymone, and Karyn married Terry Lewis. (both Andre and Terry once worked closely with Prince, and are part of the Minnapolis sence)

Also Karyn was nearly Jody's replacement in Shalamar.

I liked White better because she was comfortable doing ballads as well as uptempo stuff. Superwoman and Love Saw it with Babyface were her best singles in my opinion.

Watley never really appealed to me outside of Shalamar. I don't think there were any ballads from her until her 2nd album.

Both had somewhat thin voices though and would not have been much without their producers.

Is White still Mrs Terry Lewis?

I don't know if Terry and Karyn are still married. On her bio, it says they had a daughter together.

whatever happened to Karyn? I know she had a #1 with Romantic from her second album, but after the followup single (The Way I Feel About You), she vanished without a trace, and this was 12 years ago.

Jody hasn't really had a mainstream hit since 1992's I'm The One You Need, but she's stayed around, whereas Karyn has basically become MIA

This is a no-brainer. Karyn White had the richer voice, the greater feel for a song, and the sexier persona. "Romantic" - the song and the accompanying video - was just that. Jody Watley was an overproduced, overhyped dance diva. Why didn't Karyn White stay around?

I love Karyn White muuuuucccchhhh better, she definately help to define r& b in the late 80's. I doubt that she is still married to Lewis because a few months ago they received producer's awards and the women he bought on stage with him stating that she was his wife is not Karyn. Poor Babe. I still love yuu, Superwoman!
