I don't remember watching the show or being crazy for Freddie when CATM was on originally--though I should, cuz my dad says we did and I was in my early teens at the time, crazy about lots of stars (several of whom were dark like Freddie)!
After the TVLand reruns, I became a devoted fan--realizing that CATM had been really great, and how truly talented and gorgeous Freddie was! |

I do have to admit, when I watched the show in its first run, I was hooked on Freddie. I was in LOVE. He was the reason I came back week after week.
I will have to say, tho, especially after catching the show 20+ years later on TVLand, that I do enjoy the show for more than Freddie. The chemistry and comradeship of the characters and even the actors shine through in this show. |

I had watched it back in the 70's with my family. I loved Freddie Prinze because he was funny and quite handsome. When TVLand aired it again 3 years ago. I was like a teenager all over again. Falling in love with Freddie all over again. I laughed again at all the comedy as well

For me, it was a combination of both -- Freddie, because I loved him, and he made the show funny. When I think back on my early- to mid-teens, I realize just how much a part of my life he was.
When TV Land began re-airing the shows, I could only watch for a few minutes, because Freddie was even better than I remembered, and the whole thing was so painful. Then last Fall, I was able to obtain CATM tapes through the kindness of a fellow fan, and I've gained a whole new appreciation for both Freddie and the show. It's such a joy to be able to laugh at him, instead of crying over the way he passed. |

Anyone who knows their stuff would know that even when it first came out the show owed its popularity to the charisma that freddie had. Both woman AND men watch the show to see this up and coming star sparkle. I think the fact that she show went down without him kinda says it all
He simply just stole the showand made as funny as it was

I admit Freddie is the main reason i watch the show. He was a handsome man but i loved the chemistry between he and Jack and the obvious love they had for each other.
The show was and it still funny and a joy to watch but i'd be lying if i said i didn't watch it because of Freddie |

I watched the show back in the 70's because it was so funny, but when it came back to TV Land a couple years back, there was just something about Freddie that drew me in. I love watching the chemistry between Jack and Freddie and the way they grew to love one another...but Freddie Prinze is a man in a catagory all his own. So multi talented..and so charming and endearing. I have to be honest...after the third season, I couldn't stand to watch it anymore. It was never the same show without the chemisty and the talent that was Freddie's alone.

I definitely watched CATM because of Freddie. Yet know I wouldn't have watched it if it didn't use Freddie's charm and charisma to the max as the show did.
Also, the show meant something to me as a teen. The message I got from CATM was that you could overcome any "Ed Brown" in your life by having self confidence, and to do so with a smile and a laugh. |

Sorry to dig up an OLD thread, but I feel compelled to answer this one, hehe!
I was born in the 80's and had never even HEARD of Freddie Prinze Sr. or Chico and the Man until they aired the marathon on TV land in the early 2000's. After seeing it then I knew it was a groovy show! I watched it whenever I could, because it was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen! I hope this answers your question.

I fell for Freddie the minute I saw him on the Johnny Carson Show. I enjoyed his jokes. After that I started to follow his career. I thought he was so comical. Then he was on Chico and the Man. I also enjoyed him with Jack Albertson. It was a good premise.

FREDDIE of course! at least...INITIALLY.... I remember the very FIRST show....when Freddie used Ed's booze to clean the grease off the bench and then put the daisy in the empty bottle....Ed said that was dumb thing to do... and Chico said NO it wasnt... In Spanish Daisy is Margarita..Margret...his wifes name. The look in his eyes at THAT moment captured my heart. Of course, I spent the entire show giggling....especially in the end when the car pulls in and Ed says "Chico get out here. We got a customer." and He replies... "WE? got a customer...WE GOT A CUSTOMER!"
