Goober should've worn a beard in this episode, It might have influenced his train of thought instead of having it derailed by 2 brats. I suppose I shouldn't blame Goober, The responsibilty for this pathetic episode has to lie in the hands of the writer.

Default wearing the world's dumbest . . . .

. . . wearing the world's dumbest hat probably didn't help matters either!!!! LOL! Who in the world would walk around wearing that kind of hat???? Didn't Jughead from the Archie comic books wear that kind of hat????

Anyway, I really don't like the "later" issues of TAGS. The ones that feature Goober, Howard, and Emmet. I like the early episodes which feature Barney. Barney is what made these shows, IMHO.

Signed,
Respectfully,
Dutch

Yes... why do I get the feeling that the guy who wrote this may also have been the same writer who sent Howard off to the island and put Aunt Bea in the airplane?

And yes, the hat worked for Jughead but was just terrible on a grown man, which Goober more or less was.

Goober was an OK character in small doses. Like a few others (Emmet, Howard, Helen), he was used to try to fill show time after Barney left, which was a huge hole to fill.
I like the early Goober much better. He was more outright goofy, but it would have been difficult to maintain the character that way.
As for the hat...I like it.

The episode where Goober brings a stack of comic books back from Mount Pilot was interesting, he's a big fan of the Purple Avenger (The Phantom?) but I swear I heard Opie mention Spider-Man was among the issues.

Obviously Gomer is a fan of the Original Captain Marvel aka "Shazam!".

Anyone done a tally of the comics titles that exist in the Mayberry universe?

Update:

This looks like a good book, I expect I'll come across ot eventually:

The Andy Griffith Show Book - Page 84 - Google Books Resulthttps://books.google.com › books
Ken Beck, ‎Jim Clark · 2000 · ‎Performing Arts
... Goober's Comic Book Literary Guild " Crab Monster " “ Grunge Monster " " Space Phantom " “ Spiderman ” “ Purple Avenger ” The Monster That Ate Minnesota ...

Gomer was a lovable naive country bumpkin. Goober was just an annoying doofus.
