After 7 years of being on ER the producers decided to not renew Alex's contract. She says she it is because she is old and that is why they are not renewing her contract. What is everyone's thoughts on this?

I don't know about the old thing because Laura Innis is older the she is and I would assume Sherry Stringfield is too. They probably had nowhere to with her character. She was getting kind of scarce lately especially since they flatten Romano. Personally I like her and her accent. She will be missed!

I was angry when I read about this. Supposedly, the producers felt that two "older" women were enough, so they're keeping the ones who have had the more interesting story lines lately: Laura Innes, 44, and Maura Tierney, 39. I realize that the show has been getting stale, but why is an infusion of 20-somethings into the cast always the solution of choice for most long-running dramas? (For sitcoms, they just tack on another cute kid.)
They used to go for realism over an unrealistic abundance of youth and beauty. Now I suppose we're expected to believe that only young, pretty people work in large county hospitals. I've been losing interest in this show for a couple of seasons now. I think I finally have adequate motivation to ignore it entirely. |

I don't think they meant "old" as in age. I think they just meant that her character has been around for awhile and the writers can't come up with anything new for her to do. At least that's what I hope they mean.
This stinks. I really like Corday. I'd rather see them get rid of Abby and Pratt. Those are the two least interesting characters to me right now. |
