I hate the Boston accent, and I LIVE in Massachusetts! I try so hard to not talk with a Boston accent.

Neither one really annoys me but I like the Yankee accent more. I work with a guy from Tennessee and I sometimes have difficulty understanding him because his accent is so thick.

Southern accent. I live in Texas but I have not adopted the southern accent, thankfully. I'm staying true to my northern roots.

I would've said southern, but I didn't vote because I figure it's probably just the accent that you're not used to. I'm a Yankee girl.

Define "Yankee." Does that mean just anyone from the north who doesn't sound southern?

Plus, there are so many dialects of each. People in GA sound different that people in Texas. I live in Iowa, but I sure don't sound like Minnesotans or Wisconsinites.

And overall, neither annoy me.

There are many Northern accents. The East Coast have several. And yes, there is definitely a Chicago, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Upper Peninsula Michigan(the latter three are similar) accents. But please, no offense intended to our Southern friends here, but some thick Southern accents sound absolutely illiterate!!

The damn yankee accent annoys me and my family. My parents are from N.C. and we live in VA. And we are definately not "illiterate" in any way, nor is anybody in N.C.

When we travel to Williamsburg (which has major tourists from the North), we can always tell if people with the yankee accent sit near us because they have to be the loudest, most obnoxious speakers of anybody in the restaurant.

Yankee refers more to the Northeast. So people from Connecticutt, Massachussetts etc. have the Yankee accent.

That is the problem. Everyone with the same accent sounds perfectly fine to each other! "Normal" depends on the ear and tongue of the listener. Everyone thinks people from different regions talk different.

Southern. Unfortunately after living in the south all those years, I now have one.
