The original The Addams Family ran two seasons -- from 1964 to 1966.

Thanks. I didn't think it ran very long. If only they could have known how popular it would become later!

There were some cast issues (not between themselves) as I recall and other things that led to its early demise, as well as popular but never stellar ratings.

John Astin said he thought it was probably because some of the big people on the network didn't really like the show all that much and they replaced it with a show they liked better. He also said they wanted to go in color but there wasn't enough money or something like that.... who know.

The second season was nowhere near as good as the first, in my personal estimation. I really didn't care for Carolyn's dual role as Ophelia. That was overdone. Particuarly when she'd do that judo flip on Gomez ("Montrose didn't like that"). I liked it better when Gomez had the upper hand on any given situation. Also they didn't really utilize Blossom Rock's character as much as they should have.

The Addams Family in color would have never been the same, and one reason I never cared for the reunion TV shows or the movies.

The Munsters in color would have been awful too.

Actually both shows were gone at least a season before the all color push.
