Kelly Osbourne Out Of Rehab And Back To Work

Hard at work on album and TV show, Kelly is 'doing great,' says Sharon.

A sober Kelly Osbourne is out of rehab and hard at work, according to her mother.

"She's doing great," Sharon Osbourne said. "She's finishing up her album with [songwriter/producer] Linda Perry. They're still in the studio, she finishes in about a week. And she's in a new show on ABC, so she's very busy right now."

Kelly's spokesperson refused to release details about her rehab stint, but the younger Osbourne daughter attended the Covenant House California's Youth Awards Dinner Gala on May 7. She voluntarily checked into a rehab clinic on April 2 (see "Kelly Osbourne Checks Into Rehab For Painkiller Addiction").

Last week Kelly gave her first interview discussing her drug addiction, speaking with her younger brother, Jack, on Britain's ITV1. "Painkillers weren't the only drugs I did," she revealed. "Towards the end, there wasn't a second in a 24-hour day that I wasn't high on something."

Kelly told Jack, who spent time in rehab a year ago , that she had her first drink of alcohol at 12 and began using drugs after moving to Beverly Hills.

"We'd lived in America for a year and a half and I still really didn't have any friends and I didn't like it," she said. "I didn't fit in anywhere because I was the chubby English girl and didn't want to drive a BMW and have a Kate Spade bag and wear designer clothing and be in that world. I went to this place and I sat next to this person and he just started talking to me, and I was like, 'Golly, this person's talking to me. Why?' And then I met this whole little group of people and he goes, 'Oh here, take this. It's really great. It will make you feel really good.' So I took it, and then suddenly I was at the center of attention."

"In the beginning, you do it because it makes you feel good — and then it gets to the point were it stops making you feel good and you do it because you don't know what else to do," she added.

Sharon said Jack has been at Kelly's side since she left rehab. "He has over a year of sobriety, so he's an expert right now," Sharon said. "He's like, 'This is the way it's done.' And then [Kelly] tells him, 'Shut up! What do you know?' "

Kelly's rehab stint wasn't easy for Sharon, but she's remained positive. "Whether you come from a celebrity family or not, you want to shield your children, but you can't," she explained. "They have to learn by making their own mistakes, unfortunately. I'd love to put cotton walls all around them and protect them from everything, but you can't."

Sharon said she constantly ponders whether doing "The Osbournes" contributed to Kelly and Jack's drug problems. "Still now, after three years, I'm saying, 'Should I have done this?' " she said. "I mean, it's a hard thing to live with, but yet a great thing too."

Kelly, who is also recording with the Matrix, will appear in the fall on the new ABC drama "Life As We Know It," formerly known as "Doing It" (see "Kelly Osbourne 'Doing It' On Network TV").

She went on about not being like the rich brats but I think she's one too.

Well, I'm glad to hear she's doing well. Hopefully she can continue to do as well as her brother seems to be doing.
