Default Graduate Remake???

A while ago I said Sky News said Jennifer Aniston might be doing a Graduate sequel. Today I saw on tv that Kevin Costner and Jennifer Aniston are starring in a REMAKE? This has gotta be pure rumour- because who would Costner play, and Aniston is too old to play Elaine and too young to play Mrs Robinson.

According to imdb.com, there is a film starting production this month starring Aniston in which "she plays a woman who learns that her family was the inspiration for the book and film 'The Graduate' -- and that she just might be the offspring of the well-documented event."

There's no mention of Costner among the cast members, though.

Okay, I just found an article at gossipmagazine.com (through Google -- I'm not a regular reader of such frivolous e-zines... ) which reports the following:

"Friends star Jennifer Aniston is set to star opposite Kevin Costner in a new film based on The Graduate. Costner is in talks to play a male version of the Mrs Robinson character, an older man who seduces Aniston. The comedy would see Aniston discover that the classic 60s movie starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft was based on her family.

She then finds out that her grandmother - to be played by Shirley MacLaine - was the inspiration for the man-eating Mrs Robinson. Aniston's character returns to the family home to find out the truth and ends up falling for Costner's middle-aged character in a gender reversal of the original. The as-yet-untitled film will be produced by George Clooney."

Heck, I'd watch it just to see Aniston and MacLaine together.

The plot does sound interesting. At least it's not a remake or sequel. Sounds very original, plus Aniston's a good actress.

I agree about Jennifer Aniston's acting ability. When she first started branching out into films, I was fully prepared to read scathing reviews similar to those of films featuring her Friends co-stars, but when I saw The Good Girl I knew she had something special. I also thought she was good in Office Space. I'm looking forward to seeing what she does now that Friends is behind her.

As for this non-remake/non-sequel of The Graduate, I've never been a Costner fan, and the plot sounds a little muddled -- I like the main premise a lot, but do we really need a contrived May-December romance stuck in there just to mirror the original? -- but, still, I'll be interested to see how it turns out.

Exclamation Enough Already with the Remakes!

The Graduate is one of my very favourite 60s comedies and still holds well today and really doesn't need to be crapped on with yet another cheap Hollywood remake.

I hope it's just a rumor. Is there really a need for a remake? I mean, come on.
