This is a pretty straightforward question. . . . We've had polls on favorite albums of 1970 and 1971, so - what's your favorite album of 1972?
1972, of course, was the year of country-rock, but there was a whole of other stuff that happened that year, and I know my choices won't do the year justice.

I made this poll a multiple choice poll, meaning you can vote for as many as you like, because I myself can't make up my mind!
![]() I went for Steely Dan's first album, as it was the best debut LP of 1972 - and it pointed the way for future Dan records. The first album from the Stephen Stills/Chris Hillman project Manassas has a special place in my heart, as does Family's Bandstand (obviously!) And of course I had to vote fo the Rolling Stones's Exile On Main Street, given its classic reputation. ![]() Please note: Although Elton John released Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player in January 1973, he recorded it in late 1972 and the album carries a 1972 copyright date, so I count it as a 1972 album. |

Exile On Main Street is a great album. When you listen to it you realize how great the Stones once were.

I picked Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player. By the way,
I go by calendar year, so I consider that album a 1973 album. |

None of the above. I like the Stylistics self-titled debut album the best. Aretha Franklin's To Be Young Gifted and Black and Roberta Flack and Donny hathaway's self-titled album were also very good.
