Roseanne - The Chickens Shirt - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I think it was aired in '92' or '93'. There was an episode where Roseanne wore a white t-shirt with either chickens or roosters on it. Then in different scenes Roseanne put on a red shirt (I believe) and now Jackie was wearing it. The in another scene Darlene wore it, then eventually both Dan & DJ. Then in another episode Roseanne had on a different shirt once again bearing chickens or roosters. Was there a symbolic meaning to this? Was a statement of some kind being made? Especially on the episode where almost all the main characters wore the same shirt. I know how Roseanne was not shy in stating her view points and at times used symbols to make statements. I am very curious as to what was behind this! Can anyone help to answer this query?

I'll field this one here because I've answered this one about 100 times by now!

The chicken shirt has no symbolic meaning- accoring to Roseanne, somebody came across it and the cast felt that it was so hideously ugly that it had to be included in the show. If Tom Arnold hated it or not, that wasn't the reason why Roseanne kept the tradition going as is widely believed.

The first time it was worn was in the second season in the musical episode by Becky. The episode you're thinking of was the season finale of the fifth season in which everybody wore the shirt at some point. The last time we see it is in "Satan Darling" in the ninth season where it's framed and hanging up on a wall.

Sitcoms don't usually keep running gags going for 7 seasons, but it was nice to see one that lasted.
