Ok somebody please explain why ALF was so great. I was inexplicably drawn to the show the only time I've ever been exposed to it - which was when I was very young - but since I was so very young, I didn't have the ability to reflect on or examine its alleged greatness. Anybody care to enlighten me?

Plain and simple.... ALF is funny.
Everything about ALF works, the character and the show.
If you're not one of those people who are "too sophisticated" for something like ALF, then I cant see why someone wouldnt like it.

lol don't get me confused with my favorite characters...I remember liking ALF a lot. But it's such a blur - I hardly remember anything about other than it was fun to watch. ....at this point I better say something about Cheers or this post belongs in the ALF forum.

Cheers is number one!!

I haven't watched enough of these shows to have enough for a top ten...but here are my choices.

1) Cheers
2) The Cosby Show
3) The Golden Girls
4) Family Ties
5) Who's the Boss (I've watched the British version of this show too - it's eerie)
6) ALF - even though I hardly remember the show, all that matters is that Alf made me laugh...and he keeps coming back on all sorts of merchandise...that has to count for something.

I feel like Small Wonder is grossly underrepresented in this thread--who doesn't like to watch a robot try to fit in with a human family??!!! Although I have to say that it doesn't come close to Cheers, it was really cute IMO.
