TVSHOWSONDVD.COM ISSUED THIS PLEA FROM RHINO ENTERTAINMENT ON TUES. JUNE 1, 2004...
FROM: TVshowsonDVD.com...Earlier today we received an email from Rhino Home Video which explained the delay that occured with My Favorite Martian (the set was initially supposed to be released in May). We had emailed them a thread from the Home Theater Forum where fans of the series were upset about previous DVD releases of the series that Rhino had issued. Rhino listened and took action...and here's what they had to say: As you may know, Rhino Home Video delayed its release of My Favorite Martian - The Complete First Season to the fall of 2004 due to fan inquiries about previously released episodes that had been "sped up" and trimmed for syndication. We are happy to announce that we have found masters for 36 original, uncut episodes from the first season of this great series and are preparing these for the DVD set. Unfortunately, we have spent over 4 months (countless hours) searching labs & vaults and have not been able to find a master for the uncut pilot episode, which was not delivered to us when the original deal was signed. Since TVSHOWSONDVD.com is the home of fans who love classic TV as we do here at Rhino, I am wondering if you could post this e-mail in hopes that someone may know where to locate this missing master. We need to finalize our discs by June 15th, so time is of the essence. Thanks for all of your help and we'll keep our fingers crossed too as we continue our search. Sincerely, Rhino Home Video So, if anyone has a master of the pilot episode, please contact us "TVShowsonDVD.com" and we can put you in touch with someone over at Rhino Home Video. Please note that this will have to be high quality (not a VHS copy) because it would be used on the DVD set. I think Rhino deserves a round of applause for taking the time, and money, to track down the original masters for the episodes. Everyone on here who is reading this... Email & call all your Martian friends across the country, across the Atlantic, Mars, anywhere!!! Just get this message circulated all over the internet! The deadline is June 15 to find this Master Print of The Pilot Episode of My Favorite Martian. If anyone is in contact with Ray Waltson or Bill Bixby's family, please get in contact with them! Perhaps they have a good master print tucked away in their attic or closet! Thank you all!!! |

A number of points need to be made to RHINO Home Video.
First, the pilot used for the RHINO single DVD and VHS is missing the credits for the Producer, Writer and Director which are supposed to follow the opening credits. But COLUMBIA HOUSE does have the complete pilot, though it is slightly speeded in the music. Why doesn't RHINO use that version, if they can't get a film master? Secondly, the Museum of TV & RADIO does have the MFM pilot, and it is likely to be uncut. Finally, the unaired pilot for MFM has been circulating for years among private collectors. It would be nice if RHINO could get that as an extra bonus. Also: The proposed artwork for the DVD set features only a green Mars!! One would think that the RHINO Art department would know that Mars is the Red Planet!! |

Jharison, thanks for your reply!
Rhino is aware that their previous 4 Episode DVD was missing the writer & director's credits for the pilot episode & that is why they are frantically searching for an original uncut master copy. You mention that several collectors have this master as well as the MOT&R? If you know exactly what fan may own this, please get in contact with them right away. Also please let TVShowsonDVD.com know this bit of information you have provided us ASAP. We all want to see this First Season DVD set done right & yes, that bit about the planet mars being red should be suggested! I myself am not crazy about that cover art. I want Ray & Bill to be on the cover!!! Thanks for your help! Jack |

A helpful source has informed me that the Museum of TV & Radio does not have the pilot among its several episodes of MFM.
So it seems that the search must go on. JHarison |
